A Note on Commuting Diffeomorphisms on Surfaces

Let S be a closed surface with nonzero Euler characteristic. We prove the existence of an open neighborhood V of the identity map of S in the C^1-topology with the following property: if G is an abelian subgroup of Diff^1(S) generated by any family of elements in V then the elements of G have common fixed points. This result generalizes a similar result due to Bonatti and announced in his paper "Diffeomorphismes commutants des surfaces et stabilite des fibrations en tores".Comment: 16 page

Reflection matrices for the Uq[sl(r2m)(2)]U_{q}[sl(r|2m)^{(2)}] vertex model

The graded reflection equation is investigated for the Uq[sl(r2m)(2)]U_{q}[sl(r|2m)^{(2)}] vertex model. We have found four classes of diagonal solutions and twelve classes of non-diagonal ones. The number of free parameters for some solutions depends on the number of bosonic and fermionic degrees of freedom considered.Comment: 30 page

Area Quantization in Quasi-Extreme Black Holes

    Get PDF
We consider quasi-extreme Kerr and quasi-extreme Schwarzschild-de Sitter black holes. From the known analytical expressions obtained for their quasi-normal modes frequencies, we suggest an area quantization prescription for those objects.Comment: Final version to appear in Mod. Phys. Lett.

A Representation of the Virasoro Algebra via Wigner-Heisenberg Algebraic Technique to Bosonic Systems

Using the Wigner-Heisenberg algebra for bosonic systems in connection with oscillators we find a new representation for the Virasoro algebra.Comment: Revised version. Revtex, 7 pages, no figures. Phantom Accretion by Black Holes and the Generalized Second Law of Thermodynamics

The accretion of a phantom fluid with non-zero chemical potential by black holes is discussed with basis on the Generalized Second Law of thermodynamics. For phantom fluids with positive temperature and negative chemical potential we demonstrate that the accretion process is possible, and that the condition guaranteeing the positiveness of the phantom fluid entropy coincides with the one required by Generalized Second Law. In particular, this result provides a complementary confirmation that cosmological phantom fluids do not need to have negative temperatures

On Matrix Superpotential and Three-Component Normal Modes

We consider the supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSY QM) with three- component normal modes for the Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) states. An explicit form of the SUSY QM matrix superpotential is presented and the corresponding three-component bosonic zero-mode eigenfunction is investigated.Comment: 17 pages, no figure. Density-functionals not based on the electron gas: Local-density approximation for a Luttinger liquid

By shifting the reference system for the local-density approximation (LDA) from the electron gas to other model systems one obtains a new class of density functionals, which by design account for the correlations present in the chosen reference system. This strategy is illustrated by constructing an explicit LDA for the one-dimensional Hubbard model. While the traditional {\it ab initio} LDA is based on a Fermi liquid (the electron gas), this one is based on a Luttinger liquid. First applications to inhomogeneous Hubbard models, including one containing a localized impurity, are reported.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures (final version, contains additional applications and discussion; accepted by Phys.
