Symbolic powers of monomial ideals and Cohen-Macaulay vertex-weighted digraphs
In this paper we study irreducible representations and symbolic Rees algebras
of monomial ideals. Then we examine edge ideals associated to vertex-weighted
oriented graphs. These are digraphs having no oriented cycles of length two
with weights on the vertices. For a monomial ideal with no embedded primes we
classify the normality of its symbolic Rees algebra in terms of its primary
components. If the primary components of a monomial ideal are normal, we
present a simple procedure to compute its symbolic Rees algebra using Hilbert
bases, and give necessary and sufficient conditions for the equality between
its ordinary and symbolic powers. We give an effective characterization of the
Cohen--Macaulay vertex-weighted oriented forests. For edge ideals of transitive
weighted oriented graphs we show that Alexander duality holds. It is shown that
edge ideals of weighted acyclic tournaments are Cohen--Macaulay and satisfy

Final Posttreatment Occlusion in Patients With Unilateral Cleft Lip and Palate
Objective: To evaluate final posttreatment occlusion in patients with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate (cUCLP) by comparing (1) 3 treatment centers, (2) males and females, (3) cleft and noncleft sides, (4) right- and left-sided clefts, and (5) orthodontic treatment with/without orthognathic surgery (OS).
Design: Retrospective cohort study.
Patients: Blinded posttreatment dental casts of 56 patients (19.4 ± 1.4 years) with cUCLP from 3 centers in Switzerland.
Main outcome measure: Occlusal assessment using the modified Huddart/Bodenham (MHB) index.
Results: Our sample comprised 35 males and 21 females, 46 with left- and 10 with right-sided clefts, of which 32 had undergone OS. The final posttreatment occlusion showed a median MHB score of 0 (interquartile range: -1.0 to 2.0) in the total sample and did not seem to depend on treatment center, sex, or OS. The MHB scores for the anterior buccal and the buccal segments were more negative on the cleft than on the noncleft side (P = .002 and P = .006, respectively). When the cleft was on the left side, the MHB score tended to be more positive in the labial (P = .046) and anterior buccal segments (P = .034).
Conclusions: This study shows a very satisfactory final posttreatment occlusion in patients with cUCLP. The more constricted buccal occlusion on the cleft side emphasizes the attention that should be given in correcting the more medially positioned lesser maxillary segment. The influence of cleft-sidedness should be analyzed further on a sample including more patients with right-sided clefts.

Stimulated emission of polarization-entangled photons
Entangled photon pairs -- discrete light quanta that exhibit non-classical
correlations -- play a crucial role in quantum information science (for example
in demonstrations of quantum non-locality and quantum cryptography). At the
macroscopic optical field level non-classical correlations can also be
important, as in the case of squeezed light, entangled light beams and
teleportation of continuous quantum variables. Here we use stimulated
parametric down-conversion to study entangled states of light that bridge the
gap between discrete and macroscopic optical quantum correlations. We
demonstrate experimentally the onset of laser-like action for entangled
photons. This entanglement structure holds great promise in quantum information
science where there is a strong demand for entangled states of increasing

Quantum non-demolition (QND) modulation of quantum interference
We propose an experiment where quantum interference between two different
paths is modulated by means of a QND measurement on one or both the arm of the
interferometer. The QND measurement is achieved in a Kerr cell. We illustrate a

Cosmological anti-deSitter space-times and time-dependent AdS/CFT correspondence
We study classes of five-dimensional cosmological solutions with negative
curvature, which are obtained from static solutions by an exchange of a spatial
and temporal coordinate, and in some cases by an analytic continuation. Such
solutions provide a suitable laboratory to address the time-dependent AdS/CFT
correspondence. For a specific example we address in detail the calculation of
the boundary stress-energy and the Wilson line and find disagreement with the
standard AdS/CFT correspondence. We trace these discrepancies to the
time-dependent effects, such as particle creation, which we further study for
specific backgrounds. We also identify specific time-dependent backgrounds that
reproduce the correct conformal anomaly. For such backgrounds the calculation
of the Wilson line in the adiabatic approximation indicates only a Coulomb

C^2/Z_n Fractional branes and Monodromy
We construct geometric representatives for the C^2/Z_n fractional branes in
terms of branes wrapping certain exceptional cycles of the resolution. In the
process we use large radius and conifold-type monodromies, and also check some
of the orbifold quantum symmetries. We find the explicit Seiberg-duality which
connects our fractional branes to the ones given by the McKay correspondence.

Salivary PYY: A Putative Bypass to Satiety
Peptide YY3-36 is a satiation hormone released postprandially into the bloodstream from L-endocrine cells in the gut epithelia. In the current report, we demonstrate PYY3-36 is also present in murine as well as in human saliva. In mice, salivary PYY3-36 derives from plasma and is also synthesized in the taste cells in taste buds of the tongue. Moreover, the cognate receptor Y2R is abundantly expressed in the basal layer of the progenitor cells of the tongue epithelia and von Ebner's gland. The acute augmentation of salivary PYY3-36 induced stronger satiation as demonstrated in feeding behavioral studies. The effect is mediated through the activation of the specific Y2 receptor expressed in the lingual epithelial cells. In a long-term study involving diet-induced obese (DIO) mice, a sustained increase in PYY3-36 was achieved using viral vector-mediated gene delivery targeting salivary glands. The chronic increase in salivary PYY3-36 resulted in a significant long-term reduction in food intake (FI) and body weight (BW). Thus this study provides evidence for new functions of the previously characterized gut peptide PYY3-36 suggesting a potential simple and efficient alternative therapeutic approach for the treatment of obesity
Non-Equilibrium Field Dynamics of an Honest Holographic Superconductor
Most holographic models of superconducting systems neglect the effects of
dynamical boundary gauge fields during the process of spontaneous
symmetry-breaking. Usually a global symmetry gets broken. This yields a
superfluid, which then is gauged "weakly" afterwards. In this work we build
(and probe the dynamics of) a holographic model in which a local boundary
symmetry is spontaneously broken instead. We compute two-point functions of
dynamical non-Abelian gauge fields in the normal and in the broken phase, and
find non-trivial gapless modes. Our AdS3 gravity dual realizes a p-wave
superconductor in (1+1) dimensions. The ground state of this model also breaks
(1+1)-dimensional parity spontaneously, while the Hamiltonian is
parity-invariant. We discuss possible implications of our results for a wider

ECONOMIC EVALUATION OF CO2 STORAGE AND SINK ENHANCEMENT OPTIONS
This project developed life-cycle costs for the major technologies and practices under development for CO{sub 2} storage and sink enhancement. The technologies evaluated included options for storing captured CO{sub 2} in active oil reservoirs, depleted oil and gas reservoirs, deep aquifers, coal beds, and oceans, as well as the enhancement of carbon sequestration in forests and croplands. The capture costs for a nominal 500 MW{sub e} integrated gasification combined cycle plant from an earlier study were combined with the storage costs from this study to allow comparison among capture and storage approaches as well as sink enhancements
