On uniformly nearly-optimal Markov strategies

In this paper the following result is proved. In any total reward countable state Markov decision process a Markov strategy IT exists which is uniformly nearly-optimal in the following sense: v(i,π,) ≥ v*(i) − ε − εu*(i) for any initial state i. Here v* denotes the value function of the process and u* denotes the value of the process if all negative rewards are neglected

On CP-utilization and processing times in an exponential CP-terminal system

This paper considers a closed queueing network model for the case of a number of different terminals sharing one central processor (CP). When there are two or more jobs at the CP it has to be decided which job to serve first. The servicing order will affect CP-utilization and responsetimes. It is shown that CP-utilization is usually rather insensitive to the servicing order, so that the main consideration, when deciding upon the priorities at the CP, may be the processing times
