Tuning of metal-insulator transition of two-dimensional electrons at parylene/SrTiO interface by electric field
Electrostatic carrier doping using a field-effect-transistor structure is an
intriguing approach to explore electronic phases by critical control of carrier
concentration. We demonstrate the reversible control of the insulator-metal
transition (IMT) in a two dimensional (2D) electron gas at the interface of
insulating SrTiO single crystals. Superconductivity was observed in a
limited number of devices doped far beyond the IMT, which may imply the
presence of 2D metal-superconductor transition. This realization of a
two-dimensional metallic state on the most widely-used perovskite oxide is the
best manifestation of the potential of oxide electronics
The mediating role of parenting in the associations between household chaos and children’s representations of family dysfunction
Children’s drawings are thought to reflect their mental representations of self and their interpersonal relations within families. Household chaos is believed to disrupt key proximal processes related to optimal development. The present study examines the mediating role of parenting behaviors in the relations between two measures of household chaos, instability and disorganization, and how they may be evidenced in children’s representations of family dysfunction as derived from their drawings. The sample (N= 962) is from a longitudinal study of rural poverty exploring the ways in which child, family, and contextual factors shape development over time. Findings reveal that, after controlling for numerous factors including child and primary caregiver covariates, there were significant indirect effects from cumulative family disorganization, but not cumulative family instability, on children’s representation of family dysfunction through parenting behaviors. Results suggest that the proximal effects of daily disorganization outweigh the effects of periodic instability overtime

Virginia\u27s Plan for Dual Enrollment
[First paragraph] There is a plan where Virginia pays Average Daily Membership (ADM) monies to a school system for a student attending a community college - and the community college collects the Full Time Equivalency (FTE) from the State. Principals must be aware of this dual enrollment plan for secondary students with community colleges approved in September of 1988. This plan provides options for students which were not available before. Dual enrollment allows high school students to accumulate credits for graduation while simultaneously earning college credit. Mapping the Spatial Distribution of Charge Carriers in LaAlO3/SrTiO3 Heterostructures
At the interface between complex insulating oxides, novel phases with
interesting properties may occur, such as the metallic state reported in the
LaAlO3/SrTiO3 system. While this state has been predicted and reported to be
confined at the interface, some works indicate a much broader spatial
extension, thereby questioning its origin. Here we provide for the first time a
direct determination of the carrier density profile of this system through
resistance profile mappings collected in cross-section LaAlO3/SrTiO3 samples
with a conducting-tip atomic force microscope (CT-AFM). We find that, depending
upon specific growth protocols, the spatial extension of the high-mobility
electron gas can be varied from hundreds of microns into SrTiO3 to a few
nanometers next to the LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interface. Our results emphasize the
potential of CT-AFM as a novel tool to characterize complex oxide interfaces
and provide us with a definitive and conclusive way to reconcile the body of
