Gender Differences in the Association between Physical Inactivity and Mental-Health Conditions in People with Vision or Hearing Impairment; 35328994
This study aimed to examine associations between physical inactivity and mental health in Spanish adults with vision or hearing difficulties and explored differences between men and women. Data from the Spanish National Health Survey in 2017 were analyzed (n = 23, 089 adults, 15â103 years, mean age 53.4 ± 18.9 years, 45.9% men). Physical inactivity (exposure) was evaluated with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form. Participants self-reported whether they had previously suffered from depression, chronic anxiety and other mental-health complications (outcomes). Associations between physical inactivity and mental-health complications were assessed with multivariable logistic regression in people with difficulty seeing and hearing, after grouping by gender and adjusting for age, body-mass index, education level, living as a couple, smoking and alcohol consumption. The overall multivariable logistic-regression analyses showed that women with vision impairment showed significant associations between physical inactivity and depression (OR 1.403, 95% CI 1.015â1.940) and other mental-health complications (OR 2.959, 95% CI 1.434â6.104). In the overall analyses, there were no significant associations in men and in people with hearing impairment. The age-stratified analyses showed that inactive people with visual impairment who were <65 years old had a higher risk of mental-health conditions. In conclusion, physical activity has been shown to be important in the prevention of mental-health complications. Healthcare practitioners and policy makers should look at appropriate strategies to increase levels of physical activity in people with vision loss, especially in women and in those <65 years old. © 2022 by the authors. Recent Advances in Chromospheric and Coronal Polarization Diagnostics
I review some recent advances in methods to diagnose polarized radiation with
which we may hope to explore the magnetism of the solar chromosphere and
corona. These methods are based on the remarkable signatures that the
radiatively induced quantum coherences produce in the emergent spectral line
polarization and on the joint action of the Hanle and Zeeman effects. Some
applications to spicules, prominences, active region filaments, emerging flux

Importance of frequency and intensity of strength training for work ability among physical therapists
The aim of the study was to evaluate the association between frequency and intensity of strength training participation and work ability among physical therapists (PTs). The Work Ability Index questionnaire (WAI) and a questionnaire about participation in strength training during leisure time were administered to a sample of Spanish PTs. In addition, participants provided information on gender, age, body mass index, education, substance use, working experience and working hours per week. The odds for having excellent WAI (score 44â49) as a function of intensity or frequency of strength training participation were determined using binary logistic regression controlled for various confounders. Data from 981 PTs were analysed. High-intensity strength training (>â80% 1 RM) showed strong associations with excellent WAI (odds ratioâ=â9.7; 95% confidence interval, 2.9â31.6). In addition, performing strength training more than 3 times per week was associated with excellent WAI (odds ratioâ=â1.79; 95% confidence interval, 1.24â2.59), however, no significant associations were found with lower levels of frequency and intensities. High-intensity strength training 3 times per week is associated with excellent WAI among PTs. Training programs meeting these features may importantly contribute to maintain or improve WAI
2D non-LTE radiative modelling of He I spectral lines formed in solar prominences
The diagnosis of new high-resolution spectropolarimetric observations of
solar prominences made in the visible and near-infrared mainly, requires a
radiative modelling taking into account for both multi-dimensional geometry and
complex atomic models. Hereafter we contribute to the improvement of the
diagnosis based on the observation of He I multiplets, by considering 2D
non-LTE unpolarized radiation transfer, and taking also into account the atomic
fine structure of helium. It is an improvement and a direct application of the
multi-grid Gauss-Seidel/SOR iterative scheme in 2D cartesian geometry developed
by us. It allows us to compute realistic emergent intensity profiles for the He
I 10830 A and D3 multiplets, which can be directly compared to the simultaneous
and high-resolution observations made at THeMIS. A preliminary 2D multi-thread

Anomalous circular polarization profiles in the He I 1083.0 nm multiplet from solar spicules
We report Stokes vector observations of solar spicules and a prominence in
the He I 1083 nm multiplet carried out with the Tenerife Infrared Polarimeter.
The observations show linear polarization profiles that are produced by
scattering processes in the presence of a magnetic field. After a careful data
reduction, we demonstrate the existence of extremely asymmetric Stokes V
profiles in the spicular material that we are able to model with two magnetic
components along the line of sight, and under the presence of atomic
orientation in the energy levels that give rise to the multiplet. We discuss
some possible scenarios that can generate the atomic orientation in spicules.
We stress the importance of spectropolarimetric observations across the limb to

Association Between Physical Activity and Odds of Chronic Conditions Among Workers in Spain
Introduction:
Prevention of chronic conditions is a major public health challenge, and achieving minimum recommended levels of physical activity aids in reaching this objective. The aim of our study was to investigate whether levels of physical activity were associated with the prevalence of common chronic conditions among the Spanish workforce.
Methods:
We retrieved data from the Spanish National Health Survey 2017 (N = 9,695) in which the mean age of participants was 44.4 (standard deviation, 10.4 y), and 47.4% were women. Workers self-reported a set of 6 chronic conditions (ie, chronic low-back pain, chronic neck pain, diabetes, hypertension, depression, and anxiety), and we used the International Physical Activity Questionnaire short form to estimate physical activity. We performed multivariable logistic regression adjusted for possible confounders to assess associations between physical activity and chronic conditions.
Results:
The final adjusted model showed that performing less than 600 metabolic equivalent-minutes per week of physical activity was associated with significantly increased odds for chronic conditions (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 1.18; 95% CI, 1.07â1.30). Of the sex and age subgroups analyzed, this association was significant in men aged 17 to 44 (aOR = 1.21; 95% CI, 1.00â1.46). Among chronic conditions, low-back pain and anxiety were associated with low levels of physical activity, whereas covariates such as body mass index, smoking habits, education level, and occupational class had an important influence on the association between physical activity and chronic conditions.
Conclusion:
Results suggest that achieving sufficient physical activity could reduce chronic conditions among Spanish workers
Physical and Quality of Life Changes in Elderly Patients after Laparoscopic Surgery for Colorectal Cancer-A Prospective Cohort Study
BackgroundâThe incidence of colorectal cancer is increasing among elderly people, where postoperative complications are frequent. MethodsâWe evaluated postoperative physical and quality of life changes in elderly patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer. A prospective cohort study was performed in 31 colorectal cancer patients â„60 years who were scheduled for laparoscopic surgery due to colorectal cancer. Outcomes were measured one month preoperative (T1), three days postoperative (T2) and one month postoperative (T3). ResultsâThe largest early postoperative (from T1 to T2) declines were observed for isometric knee extension strength (33.1%), 30 s Chair Stand Test (27.9%) and handgrip strength (16.9%). Significant reductions in quality of life measured with the QLQ-C30 summary score and the EQ 5D index score were found between T1âT3 and T1âT2, respectively. ConclusionsâA decline in isometric knee extension strength, 30 s Chair Stand Test, handgrip strength and quality of life is evident in elderly patients in the days following laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer. Preoperative values are recovered one month after surgery for all the outcomes, except for isometric knee extension, which should receive especial attention
