    Ruler for making navigational computations

    Get PDF
An extensive ruler used as a computer in navigation to calculate travel time between map points or to calculate ground speed is described. The ruler has a time scale that can be adjusted at length to equal map distances travelled at a designated speed in a time period such as sixty minutes. A means for fixing the length of the ruler is also provided

    Eichler integrals and String Theory

    Get PDF
In this article, it is shown how to obtain objects called Eichler integrals in the mathematical literature that can be used for calculating scattering amplitudes in String Theory. These Eichler integrals are also new examples of Eichler integrals with poles.Comment: LaTeX, 16 page

Low-speed aerodynamic characteristics of a highly swept arrow wing configuration with several deflected leading edge concepts

    Get PDF
The effectiveness of leading edge concepts for minimizing or controlling leading edge flow separation was studied. Emphasis was placed on low speed performance, stability, and control characteristics of configurations with highly swept wings. Simple deflection of the leading edge, a variable camber leading edge system, and a leading edge vortex flow system were among the concepts studied. The data are presented without analysis

Passive venting technique for shallow cavities

    Get PDF
A device is introduced for reducing drag and store separation difficulties caused by shallow cavities on aircraft in supersonic flight consisting of a group of hollow pipes the same length as the cavity. The pipes are attached to the cavity floor so as to allow air to flow through the pipes. This device allows air to flow through the pipes opposite to the direction of flow outside the pipes. This results in reduced drag and improved store separation characteristics

John Robert Eyer: Entomological Work in Pennsylvania and Lists of Publications

    Get PDF
(excerpt) John Robert Eyer died at Carlsbad, New Mexico, on January 30, 1976. J. G. Watts and W. A. Iselin (1976), his former colleagues in the Department of Botany and Entomology at New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, wrote an obituary and quite naturally focused on Eyer\u27s work at the University\u27s Agricultural Experiment Station. Since Dr. Eyer\u27s first positions in entomology were in Pennsylvania, we have prepared this biographical sketch to preserve the record of his early accomplishments

    Fluid velocity measuring device

    Get PDF
A fluid velocity measuring device is described which, when placed in a freestream fluid flow, causes vortices to be formed at a frequency proportional to the flow rate of the fluid. Sensors on the device generate electric signals with frequency proportional to the rate of vortex creation and with relative mean amplitudes indicative of fluid flow direction. Electric circuitry translates the electric signals into indications of fluid speed and direction

The NASTRAN Error Correction Information System (ECIS)

    Get PDF
A data management procedure, called Error Correction Information System (ECIS), is described. The purpose of this system is to implement the rapid transmittal of error information between the NASTRAN Systems Management Office (NSMO) and the NASTRAN user community. The features of ECIS and its operational status are summarized. The mode of operation for ECIS is compared to the previous error correction procedures. It is shown how the user community can have access to error information much more rapidly when using ECIS. Flow charts and time tables characterize the convenience and time saving features of ECIS
