Comparison of the Effects of Coconut Oil and Soyabean Oil on TSH Level and Weight Gain in Rabbits
The present study was conducted on 12 albino rabbits of either sex and weighing between 1-1.5kg to see the influence of coconut oil and soyabean oil on serum TSH levels and weight gain for a period of 12 weeks. The rabbits were divided into 2 groups of six each. Rabbits in group 1 were fed on coconut oil and in group 2 were fed on soyabean oil in addition to their standard diet. At the end of 12 weeks we found that rabbits fed on soyabean oil had significant increase in TSH levels (p= 0.003) and gained more weight (p=0.000) when compared to rabbits fed on coconut oil
Free energies of formation of WC and WzC and the thermodynamic properties of carbon in solid tungsten
The activity of carbon in the two-phase regions - W + WC and W + W2C was obtained from the carbon content of iron rods equilibrated with mixtures of metal plus carbide powders. From this activity data the standard free energies of formation of WC and W2C were calculated. The temperature of the invariant reaction W2C = W + WC was fixed at 1570 + or - 5K. Using available solubility data for C in solid W, the partial molar free energy of C in the dilute solid solution was also calculated. The heat of solution of C in W, and the excess entropy for the interstitial solid solution, were computed, assuming that the carbon atoms reside in the octahedral interstices of bcc W
A High Statistics Lattice Calculation of Quark Masses with a Non-Perturbative Renormalization Procedure
We present results of a high statistics study (O(2000) configurations) of the
quark masses in the MS-bar scheme from Lattice QCD in the quenched
approximation at beta=6.0, beta=6.2 and beta=6.4 using both the Wilson and the
tree-level improved SW-Clover fermion action. We extract quark masses from the
meson spectroscopy and from the axial Ward Identity using non-perturbative
values of the renormalization constants. We compare the results obtained with
the two methods and we study the O(a) dependence of the quark masses for both
actions. Our best results are m_s^(MS-bar)(2 GeV)=(123 +- 4 +- 15) MeV and
m_c^(MS-bar)(2 GeV)=(1525 +- 40 +- 100) MeV.Comment: 3 pages, Talk presented at LATTICE97(QCD Spectrum and Quark Masses).

Radial flow has little effect on clusterization at intermediate energies in the framework of the Lattice Gas Model
The Lattice Gas Model was extended to incorporate the effect of radial flow.
Contrary to popular belief, radial flow has little effect on the clusterization
process in intermediate energy heavy-ion collisions except adding an ordered
motion to the particles in the fragmentation source. We compared the results
from the lattice gas model with and without radial flow to experimental data.
We found that charge yields from central collisions are not significantly

Quantum-Chromodynamic Potential Model for Light-Heavy Quarkonia and the Heavy Quark Effective Theory
We have investigated the spectra of light-heavy quarkonia with the use of a
quantum-chromodynamic potential model which is similar to that used earlier for
the heavy quarkonia. An essential feature of our treatment is the inclusion of
the one-loop radiative corrections to the quark-antiquark potential, which
contribute significantly to the spin-splittings among the quarkonium energy
levels. Unlike and , the potential for a light-heavy
system has a complicated dependence on the light and heavy quark masses and
, and it contains a spin-orbit mixing term. We have obtained excellent
results for the observed energy levels of , , , and , and
we are able to provide predicted results for many unobserved energy levels. Our
potential parameters for different quarkonia satisfy the constraints of quantum
chromodynamics.
We have also used our investigation to test the accuracy of the heavy quark
effective theory. We find that the heavy quark expansion yields generally good
results for the and energy levels provided that and
corrections are taken into account in the quark-antiquark
interactions. It does not, however, provide equally good results for the energy
levels of and , which indicates that the effective theory can be

An experimental SMI adaptive antenna array for weak interfering signals
A modified sample matrix inversion (SMI) algorithm designed to increase the suppression of weak interference is implemented on an existing experimental array system. The algorithm itself is fully described as are a number of issues concerning its implementation and evaluation, such as sample scaling, snapshot formation, weight normalization, power calculation, and system calibration. Several experiments show that the steady state performance (i.e., many snapshots are used to calculate the array weights) of the experimental system compares favorably with its theoretical performance. It is demonstrated that standard SMI does not yield adequate suppression of weak interference. Modified SMI is then used to experimentally increase this suppression by as much as 13dB
Implementation of a block Lanczos algorithm for Eigenproblem solution of gyroscopic systems
The details of implementation of a general numerical procedure developed for the accurate and economical computation of natural frequencies and associated modes of any elastic structure rotating along an arbitrary axis are described. A block version of the Lanczos algorithm is derived for the solution that fully exploits associated matrix sparsity and employs only real numbers in all relevant computations. It is also capable of determining multiple roots and proves to be most efficient when compared to other, similar, exisiting techniques
