Counselors in Rural Schools: A Position of Leadership
Approximately one-third of the K-12 student population attends school in areas identified as rural/small town. Rural schools offer counselors unique opportunities to lead by guiding studentsā education in directions that best fit their career aspirations, thus impacting the region educationally, economically and socially. The purpose of this paper is to identify the leadership role of school counselors in rural communities as identified by the American School Counselors Association (ASCA). Numerous challenges and opportunities inherent rural settings have been identified and suggestions offered as to ways in which counselors can effectively undertake leadership roles

Zero-Point cooling and low heating of trapped 111Cd+ ions
We report on ground state laser cooling of single 111Cd+ ions confined in
radio-frequency (Paul) traps. Heating rates of trapped ion motion are measured
for two different trapping geometries and electrode materials, where no effort
was made to shield the electrodes from the atomic Cd source. The low measured
heating rates suggest that trapped 111Cd+ ions may be well-suited for
experiments involving quantum control of atomic motion, including applications

Ultracold molecules: vehicles to scalable quantum information processing
We describe a novel scheme to implement scalable quantum information
processing using Li-Cs molecular state to entangle Li and Cs
ultracold atoms held in independent optical lattices. The Li atoms will
act as quantum bits to store information, and Cs atoms will serve as
messenger bits that aid in quantum gate operations and mediate entanglement
between distant qubit atoms. Each atomic species is held in a separate optical
lattice and the atoms can be overlapped by translating the lattices with
respect to each other. When the messenger and qubit atoms are overlapped,
targeted single spin operations and entangling operations can be performed by
coupling the atomic states to a molecular state with radio-frequency pulses. By
controlling the frequency and duration of the radio-frequency pulses,
entanglement can either be created or swapped between a qubit messenger pair.

An Experimental Investigation into Promoting Mental Health Service Use on Social Media: Effects of Source and Comments
Mental health is an increasingly prevalent topic of public interest, but remains a complex area requiring focused research that must account for negative perceptions surrounding mental health issues. The current work explores the roles of social media information source credibility and valence of social media comments on health outcomes in such a mental health context. We used a 2 (message source: professional vs. layperson) Ć 3 (valence of comments: positive vs. negative vs. mixed) online experiment to examine the effects of source and valence of comments on trust, attitudes and intentions related to mental health information and services among 422 undergraduate students. Results supported the hypothesized model in which source influenced cognitive trust while comments influenced affective trust. Cognitive and affective trust both impacted attitudes towards mental health information which encourages the intention to share such information on social media. Additionally, affective trust impacted attitudes towards mental services which influenced intentions to seek them out. Source and valence of comments on social media impact different behavioral intentions regarding the use of mental health services. This study provides insights for future social media campaigns promoting mental health service use
Examining the Multifactorial Nature of Cognitive Aging with Covariance Analysis of Positron Emission Tomography Data
Research has indicated that there may be age-related and Alzheimer's disease (AD) -related reductions in regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) in the brain. This study explored differences in age- and AD-related rCBF patterns in the context of cognitive aging using a multivariate approach to the analysis of H215O PET data. First, an rCBF covariance pattern that distinguishes between a group of younger and older adults was identified. Individual subject's expression of the identified age-related pattern was significantly correlated with their performance on tests of memory, even after controlling for the effect of age. This finding suggests that subject expression of the covariance pattern explained additional variation in performance on the memory tasks. The age-related covariance pattern was then compared to an AD-related covariance pattern. There was little evidence that the two covariance patterns were similar, and the age-related pattern did a poor job of differentiating between cognitively-healthy older adults and those with probable AD. The findings from this study are consistent with the multifactorial nature of cognitive aging
Implementation of Grover's Quantum Search Algorithm in a Scalable System
We report the implementation of Grover's quantum search algorithm in the
scalable system of trapped atomic ion quantum bits. Any one of four possible
states of a two-qubit memory is marked, and following a single query of the
search space, the marked element is successfully recovered with an average
probability of 60(2)%. This exceeds the performance of any possible classical
search algorithm, which can only succeed with a maximum average probability of
