Evolution of climate zones for building in Spain in the face of climate change
Versión preprint abierta. Versión definitiva embargadaIt is essential to design buildings that take on the dynamics of the climate throughout their entire life cycle, guaranteeing the development of a building stock that is certainly sustainable and resilient. This study's main objective is to demonstrate that
the official Spanish climate zones for building do not represent the current climatic conditions and to show how these climate zones will evolve due to the impact of climate change. Given the significant impact that climate change will have on this
country, as well as its climatic variety, the proposed methodology can be used as a RCP 8.5 scenarios. The results show that two-thirds of these cities are currently designing and constructing buildings with obsolescent climate data that do not take into account the current or future climate reality, which is significantly affecting previous calculations on the thermal performance of buildings. This work represents a significant scientific contribution in terms of reflecting on the current capacities and the possibilities of improving the building stock
Characterization and Valorization of Norm Wastes for Construction Materials
The recycling of waste generated by industrial production processes is a topic of considerable environmental and economic interest. The minimization of waste disposal, avoiding its direct release into the environment, generates environmental benefits for industries in addition to the manufacture of the main product. Some of these wastes, measured by their radioactive element content, may be considered as naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM). Two of these NORMs are phosphogypsum (PG) and ilmenite mud (IM) come from the fertilizer industry and TiO2 pigment industry, respectively. This chapter discusses the viability of valorization and/or recycling of PG and IM in the manufacture of sulfur polymer cement/concrete, Portland cement, and ceramic materials
Energy Efficiency of Personal Computers: A Comparative Analysis
The demand for electricity related to Information and Communications Technologies is
constantly growing and significantly contributes to the increase in global greenhouse gas emissions.
To reduce this harmful growth, it is necessary to address this problem from different perspectives.
Among these is changing the computing scale, such as migrating, if possible, algorithms and processes
to the most energy efficient resources. In this context, this paper explores the possibility of running
scientific and engineering programs on personal computers and compares the obtained power
efficiency on these systems with that of mainframe computers and even supercomputers. Anecdotally,
this paper also shows how the power efficiency obtained for the same workloads on personal
computers is similar to that obtained on supercomputers included in the Green500 ranking.Spanish GovernmentEuropean Commission PGC2018-098813-B-C31

A Study on the Parametric Design Parameters That Influence Environmental Ergonomics and Sustainability
The parametric design applied to the built environment is critical to creating sustainable and resilient spaces. However, this research field involves a vast and complex amount of disconnected information. Therefore, this paper aims to analyse research trends in applying parametric design to optimise sustainability and environmental ergonomics parameters in built environments. The following specific objectives are identified to meet this objective: (i) a quantitative analysis based on a systematic literature review; (ii) a qualitative review based on a performance analysis and scientific mapping; and (iii) a comparative analysis of case studies applying parametric language for the optimisation of sustainability and environmental ergonomics parameters. The 1045 research records covering 1974 to 2021 illustrate a field in development that evolves from early digital advances to climate change adaptations, the circular economy and resilience. It highlights the importance of applying bioclimatic techniques in the built environment, identifying the most optimised measures and encouraging the creation of guidelines to serve as a protocol for future studies, contributing to the existing body of knowledge by highlighting trends, establishing research themes, outlining research networks and suggesting areas for further studiesPartial funding for open access charge: Universidad de Málag
The influence of promoters (Zr, La, Tb, Pr) on the catalytic performance of CuO-CeO2 systems for the preferential oxidation of CO in the presence of CO2 and H2O
CuO supported on CeO2 and Ce0.9X0.1O2, where X is Zr, La, Tb or Pr, were synthesized using nitrate precursors, giving rise ceria based materials with a small particle size which interact with CuO species generating a high amount of interfacial sites. The incorporation of cations to the ceria framework modifies the CeO2 lattice parameter, improving the redox behavior of the catalytic system. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRFS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Raman spectroscopy, thermoprogrammed reduction with H2 (H2-TPR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The catalysts were tested in the preferential oxidation of CO under a H2-rich stream (CO-PROX), reaching conversion values higher than 95% between 115 and 140 °C and being the catalyst with 6 wt.% of Cu supported on Ce0.9Zr0.1O2 (sample 6CUZRCE) the most active catalyst. The influence of the presence of CO2 and H2O was also studied simulating a PROX unit, taking place a decrease of the catalytic activity due to the inhibitor effect both CO2 and H2O.The projects CTQ2012-37925-C03-03 and CTQ2012-30703 of Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (Spain), the project of Excellence P12 RNM 1565 (Junta de Andalucía, Spain), the project of Excellence PROMETEUII/2014/010 (Generalitat Valenciana) and the UE (FEDER funding) are acknowledged for the financial support
Tunable magneto-photonic response of nickel nanostructures
In this letter, we present both experimental and numerical studies of the magneto-optical (MO) properties of nickel infiltrated opals. Ni can show interesting MO properties that can be controlled by nanostructuration through colloidal crystals templating. Nanostructuration allows the coupling of light to surface plasmon modes of Ni, and a clear dependence of the MO response as a function of the structural parameters of the template has been observed. This dependence can be used in future tunable devices such as switchers or MO modulators. © 2011 American Institute of Physics. This work has been partially supported by EU FP7 (NoE Nanophotonics 4 Energy Grant No. 248855 and NMP3-SL-2008-214107-Nanomagma); the CSIC PIF08-016, the Spanish MICINN (CSD2007-0046-Nanolight.es, CSD2008-00023-Funcoat, MAT2009-07841-GLUSFA, MAT2008-06765-C02-01/NAN-MAGPLAS) and Comunidad de Madrid (S2009/MAT-1756-PHAMA and S2009/TIC–1476- MICROSERES).Peer Reviewe
Bienestar psicológico, personalidad y actividad física. Un estilo de vida para la vida adulta
Practice of physical activity is increasingly important for people both as a recreational activity as a health activity. Although it is difficult to find human behaviors that do not have any influence on the health and well-being, it´s possible to show conduct that are among the most important risk factors of major health problems today such as consumption alcohol, obesity and snuff. Regular healthy physical exercise following programmes or frequent and regular autonomous activities improves mental health, autonomy, memory, speed, body image and the feeling of wellbeing, while producing personal stability characterised by optimism, emotional clarity and mental flexibility, leading to a longer life and better health. This model of psychological wellbeing based on the development of human potential and physical exercise, indicates that some aspects of psychological wellbeing are perceived as being more important than others (e.g., self-acceptance, personal growth or life purpose) when studied in relation to autonomy or coping strategies. This study picks perceptions of subjective well-being of adults (N = 482) aged between 24 and 46 years using Scale psychological welfare Ryff's, self-efficacy indicators and persistence questionnaire, all corresponding to the Spanish poblation. The data analysis suggests a positive correspondence between the indices of psychological well-being perceived with the way personal of to oriente and perceive their physical activity. We see the importance of pedagogical transmission of physical activity as a model of psychological well-being as a basis for healthy behaviors in adulthood. Relationship Between the use of Instagram and the Body Image of Teenagers
The use of social networks among adolescents may lead to relational, psychological and health problems. Several
studies have shown the impact of the use of social networks in different areas of young people’s lives. Here, we analyze
how the use of Instagram as social media influences adolescents’ body self-image. There are three objectives: (a) to
describe behaviors related to adolescents’ body self-image, (b) to study the influence of sex and age on adolescents’
body self-image, and (c) to establish relationships between problematic use of social networks and body (self-)image.
A cross-sectional design was used with a sample composed of 95 adolescents. The results indicate that the use of social
networks influences the relationship with the body and self-image and that the number of daily hours spent on social
networks, as well as family supervision, are variables that influence adolescents’ body image. Educational implications

Assessing the impact on virus transmission and insect vector behavior of a viral mixed infection in melon
Altres ajuts: Generalitat de Catalunya/CERCA ProgrammeMixed viral infections in plants are common, and can result in synergistic or antagonistic interactions. Except in complex diseases with severe symptoms, mixed infections frequently remain unnoticed, and their impact on insect vector transmission is largely unknown. In this study, we considered mixed infections of two unrelated viruses commonly found in melon plants, the crinivirus cucurbit yellow stunting disorder virus (CYSDV) and the potyvirus watermelon mosaic virus (WMV), and evaluated their vector transmission by whiteflies and aphids, respectively. Their dynamics of accumulation was analyzed until 60 days postinoculation (dpi) in mixed-infected plants, documenting reduced titers of WMV and much higher titers of CYSDV compared with single infections. At 24 dpi, corresponding to the peak of CYSDV accumulation, similar whitefly transmission rates were obtained when comparing either individual or mixed-infected plants as CYSDV sources, although its secondary dissemination was slightly biased toward plants previously infected with WMV, regardless of the source plant. However, at later time points, mixed-infected plants partially recovered from the initially severe symptoms, and CYSDV transmission became significantly higher. Interestingly, aphid transmission rates both at early and late time points were unaltered when WMV was acquired from mixed-infected plants despite its reduced accumulation. This lack of correlation between WMV accumulation and transmission could result from compensatory effects observed in the analysis of the aphid feeding behavior by electrical penetration graphs. Thus, our results showed that mixed-infected plants could provide advantages for both viruses, directly favoring CYSDV dissemination while maintaining WMV transmission
