Selective enzyme-mediated extraction of capsaicinoids and carotenoids from chili guajillo puya (Capsicum annuum L.) using ethanol as solvent
The selective extraction of capsaicinoids and carotenoids from chili guajillo “puya” flour was studied.
When ethanol was used as solvent, 80% of capsaicinoids and 73% of carotenoids were extracted,
representing an interesting alternative for the substitution of hexane in industrial processes.
Additionally, when the flour was pretreated with enzymes that break the cell wall and then dried,
extraction in ethanol increased to 11 and 7% for carotenoid and capsaicinoid, respectively. A selective
two-stage extraction process after the treatment with enzymes is proposed. The first step uses 30%
(v/v) ethanol and releases up to 60% of the initial capsaicinoids, and the second extraction step
with industrial ethanol permits the recovery of 83% of carotenoids present in the flour

Optimizing CIGB-300 intralesional delivery in locally advanced cervical cancer
Background:We conducted a phase 1 trial in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer by injecting 0.5 ml of the CK2-antagonist CIGB-300 in two different sites on tumours to assess tumour uptake, safety, pharmacodynamic activity and identify the recommended dose.Methods:Fourteen patients were treated with intralesional injections containing 35 or 70 mg of CIGB-300 in three alternate cycles of three consecutive days each before standard chemoradiotherapy. Tumour uptake was determined using 99 Tc-radiolabelled peptide. In situ B23/nucleophosmin was determined by immunohistochemistry.Results:Maximum tumour uptake for CIGB-300 70-mg dose was significantly higher than the one observed for 35 mg: 16.1±8.9 vs 31.3±12.9 mg (P=0.01). Both, AUC 24h and biological half-life were also significantly higher using 70 mg of CIGB-300 (P<0.001). Unincorporated CIGB-300 diffused rapidly to blood and was mainly distributed towards kidneys, and marginally in liver, lungs, heart and spleen. There was no DLT and moderate allergic-like reactions were the most common systemic side effect with strong correlation between unincorporated CIGB-300 and histamine levels in blood. CIGB-300, 70 mg, downregulated B23/nucleophosmin (P=0.03) in tumour specimens.Conclusion:Intralesional injections of 70 mg CIGB-300 in two sites (0.5 ml per injection) and this treatment plan are recommended to be evaluated in phase 2 studies.Fil: Sarduy, M. Internacionalización de la obra del artista Octavio Torres: Affordable Art Fair New York
Octavio Torres es un talentoso escultor nacido en Guadalajara, Jalisco el 10 de octubre de 1974. Escultor egresado de la escuela de artes plásticas del centro universitario de arte, arquitectura y diseño de la Universidad de Guadalajara años de 1994 - 1999. También egresó como restaurador de bienes muebles en la escuela de conservación y restauración de los años 2005-2010. Octavio cuenta con una especialización en conservación de monumentos de piedra hecha en Argentina y un diplomado en historia del arte mexicano.
Las exposiciones más destacadas de Octavio han sido en el museo del premio nacional de cerámica en Tlaquepaque, Jalisco. Participó en Gallery Weekend en la Ciudad de México con una exposición titulada “Motor de impulso” y también participó
en el Bienal de las Artes en la Habana, Cuba.
Uno de los objetivos de Octavio es poder aumentar el número de espectadores, así como poder generar más contactos para comercializar un número mayor de esculturas.
Los objetivos de Octavio son concretos y alcanzables ya que la feria nos da un amplio repertorio de contactos y puede lograr un alcance bastante grande con todas las personas que se encuentran viendo las obras. Lo que se busca es que Octavio pueda

The unidentified TeV source (TeVJ2032+4130) and surrounding field: Final HEGRA IACT-System results
The unidentified TeV source in Cygnus is now confirmed by follow-up
observations from 2002 with the HEGRA stereoscopic system of Cherenkov
Telescopes. Using all data (1999 to 2002) we confirm this new source as steady
in flux over the four years of data taking, extended with radius 6.2 arcmin
(+-1.2 arcmin (stat) +-0.9 arcmin (sys)) and exhibiting a hard spectrum with
photon index -1.9. It is located in the direction of the dense OB stellar
association, Cygnus OB2. Its integral flux above energies E>1 TeV amounts to
\~5% of the Crab assuming a Gaussian profile for the intrinsic source
morphology. There is no obvious counterpart at radio, optical nor X-ray
energies, leaving TeVJ2032+4130 presently unidentified. Observational
parameters of this source are updated here and some astrophysical discussion is
provided. Also included are upper limits for a number of other interesting

First broadband characterization and redshift determination of the VHE blazar MAGIC J2001+439
We aim to characterize the broadband emission from 2FGL J2001.1+4352, which
has been associated with the unknown-redshift blazar MG4 J200112+4352. Based on
its gamma-ray spectral properties, it was identified as a potential very high
energy (VHE; E > 100 GeV) gamma-ray emitter. The source was observed with MAGIC
first in 2009 and later in 2010 within a multi-instrument observation campaign.
The MAGIC observations yielded 14.8 hours of good quality stereoscopic data.
The object was monitored at radio, optical and gamma-ray energies during the
years 2010 and 2011. The source, named MAGIC J2001+439, is detected for the
first time at VHE with MAGIC at a statistical significance of 6.3 {\sigma} (E >
70 GeV) during a 1.3-hour long observation on 2010 July 16. The
multi-instrument observations show variability in all energy bands with the
highest amplitude of variability in the X-ray and VHE bands. We also organized
deep imaging optical observations with the Nordic Optical Telescope in 2013 to
determine the source redshift. We determine for the first time the redshift of
this BL Lac object through the measurement of its host galaxy during low blazar
activity. Using the observational evidence that the luminosities of BL Lac host
galaxies are confined to a relatively narrow range, we obtain z = 0.18 +/-
0.04. Additionally, we use the Fermi-LAT and MAGIC gamma-ray spectra to provide
an independent redshift estimation, z = 0.17 +/- 0.10. Using the former (more
accurate) redshift value, we adequately describe the broadband emission with a
one-zone SSC model for different activity states and interpret the few-day
timescale variability as produced by changes in the high-energy component of

Pharmacovigilance in children in Camagüey Province, Cuba
Purpose:
Our aim was to describe the adverse drug reactions (ADRs) detected following increased education about pharmacovigilance and drug toxicity in children in Camagüey Province, Cuba.
Methods:
Over a period of 24 months (January 2009 to December 2010), all reports of suspected ADRs in children to the Provincial Pharmacovigilance Centre in Camagüey Province were analysed. ADRs were classified in relation to causality and severity.
Results:
There were 533 reports involving suspected ADRs in children in the period. Almost one third of the reports received were classified as moderate (155, 29%) or severe (10, 2%). There was one fatality in association with the use of ceftriaxone. Vaccines and antibiotics were responsible for most of the ADR reports (392, 74%) and for all ten severe ADRs. After an intensive educational package, both within the community and the Children’s Hospital, the number of reports increased from 124 in 2008 to 161 in 2009 and 372 in 2010. This was equivalent to a reporting rate of 879 and 2,031 reports per million children per year for 2009 and 2010, respectively.
Conclusions:
The incidence of ADRs in children Camagüey Province, Cuba, is greater than previously reported. An educational intervention about pharmacovigilance and drug toxicity in children can improve the reporting of ADRs
Discovery of Very High Energy gamma-rays from 1ES 1011+496 at z=0.212
We report on the discovery of Very High Energy (VHE) gamma-ray emission from
the BL Lacertae object 1ES1011+496. The observation was triggered by an optical
outburst in March 2007 and the source was observed with the MAGIC telescope
from March to May 2007. Observing for 18.7 hr we find an excess of 6.2 sigma
with an integrated flux above 200 GeV of (1.58 photons
cm s. The VHE gamma-ray flux is >40% higher than in March-April
2006 (reported elsewhere), indicating that the VHE emission state may be
related to the optical emission state. We have also determined the redshift of
1ES1011+496 based on an optical spectrum that reveals the absorption lines of
the host galaxy. The redshift of z=0.212 makes 1ES1011+496 the most distant
source observed to emit VHE gamma-rays up to date.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figures, minor changes to fit the ApJ versio
Unfolding of differential energy spectra in the MAGIC experiment
The paper describes the different methods, used in the MAGIC experiment, to
unfold experimental energy distributions of cosmic ray particles (gamma-rays).
Questions and problems related to the unfolding are discussed. Various
procedures are proposed which can help to make the unfolding robust and
reliable. The different methods and procedures are implemented in the MAGIC
software and are used in most of the analyses.Comment: Submitted to NIM
Implementation of the Random Forest Method for the Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope MAGIC
The paper describes an application of the tree classification method Random
Forest (RF), as used in the analysis of data from the ground-based gamma
telescope MAGIC. In such telescopes, cosmic gamma-rays are observed and have to
be discriminated against a dominating background of hadronic cosmic-ray
particles. We describe the application of RF for this gamma/hadron separation.
The RF method often shows superior performance in comparison with traditional
semi-empirical techniques. Critical issues of the method and its implementation
are discussed. An application of the RF method for estimation of a continuous
parameter from related variables, rather than discrete classes, is also
