    We consider the effect of including quark delocalization and color screening, in the nonrelativistic quark cluster model, on baryon-baryon potentials and phase shifts.     Postprocessing for quantum random number generators: entropy evaluation and randomness extraction

    Quantum random-number generators (QRNGs) can offer a means to generate information-theoretically provable random numbers, in principle. In practice, unfortunately, the quantum randomness is inevitably mixed with classical randomness due to classical noises. To distill this quantum randomness, one needs to quantify the randomness of the source and apply a randomness extractor. Here, we propose a generic framework for evaluating quantum randomness of real-life QRNGs by min-entropy, and apply it to two different existing quantum random-number systems in the literature. Moreover, we provide a guideline of QRNG data postprocessing for which we implement two information-theoretically provable randomness extractors: Toeplitz-hashing extractor and Trevisan's extractor.Comment: 13 pages, 2 figure

    Rigorous QCD Predictions for Decays of P-Wave Quarkonia

    Rigorous QCD predictions for decay rates of the P-wave states of heavy quarkonia are presented. They are based on a new factorization theorem which is valid to leading order in the heavy quark velocity and to all orders in the running coupling constant of QCD. The decay rates for all four P states into light hadronic or electromagnetic final states are expressed in terms of two phenomenological parameters, whose coefficients are perturbatively calculable. Logarithms of the binding energy encountered in previous perturbative calculations of P-wave decays are factored into a phenomenological parameter that is related to the probability for the heavy quark-antiquark pair to be in a color-octet S-wave state. Applying these predictions to charmonium, we use measured decay rates for the \chione and \chitwo to predict the decay rates of the \chizero and hch_c.Comment: 13 page

    Relativistic Effects in S-Wave Quarkonium Decay

    The decay widths of S-wave quarkonia (\etc,\etb\to \gg{~~and~~} \J,\U\to\ee) are calculated on the basis of a quasipotential approach. The nontrivial dependence on relative quark motion of decay amplitude is taken into consideration via quarkonium wave function. It is shown that relativistic corrections may be large (10-50 %) and comparable with QCD corrections.Comment: 10 pages, no figure

    A methodology of integrating marketing with engineering for defining design specifications of new products

    In the fuzzy front end stage of new product development, it is quite common that marketing personnel and product engineers have different goals and concerns. Their two sets of goals and concerns are always addressed in isolation from one another. This isolation typically would not result in optimal design decisions as two sets of goals and concerns are always interrelated. Therefore, it is important to integrate the concerns of marketing personnel with those of engineers in defining design specifications. Perceptual mapping is a very common technique used by marketing personnel to understand market positions of competitive products and help define new product opportunities. Although quite a few research works have been attempted to integrate marketing with engineering concerns for new product design, perceptual mapping was not considered in defining design specifications of a new product in the previous related studies. In this paper, a methodology of integrating marketing with engineering for defining design specifications of new products is described, which mainly involves generation of perceptual maps, generation of fuzzy regression models for relating customer requirements and design attributes, formulation of an optimisation model and solving the model based on genetic algorithms. A case study of defining design specifications of a new packing machine was used to illustrate the proposed methodology

    Long-Term Survival and PSA Control with Radiation and Immunotherapy for Node Positive Prostate Cancer

    We describe a patient with node positive prostate cancer treated with radiation, androgen deprivation, and immunotherapy with long-term overall survival and PSA control. ELISPOT immunoassay studies demonstrated PSA specific T-cells prior to starting vaccine therapy suggesting that this positive response may be related to an improved antitumor immune response of the patient, increased immunogenicity of the tumor, or decreased activation of immune escape pathways. Further evaluation of therapeutic cancer vaccines in combination with radiation and hormonal therapy in the definitive management of prostate cancer is warranted
