Equivalence of operator-splitting schemes for the integration of the Langevin equation
We investigate the equivalence of different operator-splitting schemes for
the integration of the Langevin equation. We consider a specific problem, so
called the directed percolation process, which can be extended to a wider class
of problems. We first give a compact mathematical description of the
operator-splitting method and introduce two typical splitting schemes that will
be useful in numerical studies. We show that the two schemes are essentially
equivalent through the map that turns out to be an automorphism. An associated
equivalent class of operator-splitting integrations is also defined by
generalizing the specified equivalence.Comment: 4 page

Charge and Orbital Ordering and Spin State Transition Driven by Structural Distortion in YBaCo_2O_5
We have investigated electronic structures of antiferromagnetic YBaCo_2O_5
using the local spin-density approximation (LSDA) + U method. The charge and
orbital ordered insulating ground state is correctly obtained with the strong
on-site Coulomb interaction. Co^{2+} and Co^{3+} ions are found to be in the
high spin (HS) and intermediate spin (IS) state, respectively. It is considered
that the tetragonal to orthorhombic structural transition is responsible for
the ordering phenomena and the spin states of Co ions. The large contribution
of the orbital moment to the total magnetic moment indicates that the
spin-orbit coupling is also important in YBaCo_2O_5.Comment: 4 pages including 4 figures, Submitted to Phys. Rev. Let
Metrological characterization of the pulsed Rb clock with optical detection
We report on the implementation and the metrological characterization of a
vapor-cell Rb frequency standard working in pulsed regime. The three main parts
that compose the clock, physics package, optics and electronics, are described
in detail in the paper. The prototype is designed and optimized to detect the
clock transition in the optical domain. Specifically, the reference atomic
transition, excited with a Ramsey scheme, is detected by observing the
interference pattern on a laser absorption signal.
\ The metrological analysis includes the observation and characterization of
the clock signal and the measurement of frequency stability and drift. In terms
of Allan deviation, the measured frequency stability results as low as
, being the averaging time, and
reaches the value of few units of for s, an
unprecedent achievement for a vapor cell clock. We discuss in the paper the
physical effects leading to this result with particular care to laser and
microwave noises transferred to the clock signal. The frequency drift, probably
related to the temperature, stays below per day, and no evidence of
flicker floor is observed.
\ We also mention some possible improvements that in principle would lead to
a clock stability below the level at 1 s and to a drift of few units
of per day
EFFECTS OF FEMALE MATURATION ON THE LOWER EXTREMITY BIOMECHANICS DURING THE SIDE-STEP TASK
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are among the most common knee injuries in sports (DeHaven & Lintner, 1986). Female athletes have demonstrated an increased susceptibility to ACL injuries compared to their male counterparts (Yu et al., 2005). The differences in neuromuscular performance during and after puberty may be important contributors to forces on the knee and altered biomechanics could potentially explain the increased risk of ACL injury in females (Quatman et al., 2006). Evolution of Tachyon Kink with Electric Field
We investigate the decay of an inhomogeneous D1-brane wrapped on a with
an electric field. The model that we consider consists of an array of tachyon
kink and anti-kink with a constant electric flux. Beginning with an initially
static configuration, we numerically evolve the tachyon field with some
perturbations under a fixed boundary condition at diametrically opposite points
on the circle . When the electric flux is smaller than the critical value,
the tachyon kink becomes unstable; the tachyon field rolls down the potential,
and the lower dimensional D0- and -brane become thin, which
resembles the caustic formation known for this type of the system in the
literature. For the supercritical values of the electric flux, the tachyon kink

Dynamical brittle fractures of nanocrystalline silicon using large-scale electronic structure calculations
A hybrid scheme between large-scale electronic structure calculations is
developed and applied to nanocrystalline silicon with more than 10 atoms.
Dynamical fracture processes are simulated under external loads in the [001]
direction. We shows that the fracture propagates anisotropically on the (001)
plane and reconstructed surfaces appear with asymmetric dimers. Step structures
are formed in larger systems, which is understood as the beginning of a
crossover between nanoscale and macroscale samples.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure
Half-metallic antiferromagnets in double perovskites: LaAVRuO (A=Ca, Sr, and Ba)
Based on the theoretical exploration of electronic structures, we propose
that the ordered double perovskites LaAVRuO and LaVO/ARuO (001)
superlattice (A = Ca, Sr and Ba) are strong candidates for half-metallic (HM)
antiferromagnets (AFMs). %LaAVRuO and LaVO/ARuO have the %100% spin
polarizations at the Fermi level but with zero %total magnetic moments. We have
shown that the HM-AFM nature in LaAVRuO is very robust regardless of (i)
divalent ion replacement at A-sites, (ii) oxygen site relaxation, (iii) the
inclusion of the Coulomb correlation, and (iv) cation disorder. A type of the
double exchange interaction is expected to be responsible for the
half-metallicity and the antiferromagnetism in these systems.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
