The design, fabrication, and demonstration of a 111 newton (25 lb) thrust, integrated auxiliary propulsion system (IAPS) thruster for use with LH2/LO2 propellants is described. Hydrogen was supplied at a temperature range of 22 to 33 K (40 to 60 R), and oxygen from 89 to 122 K (160 to 220 R). The thruster was designed to operate in both pulse mode and steady-state modes for vehicle attitude control, space maneuvering, and as an abort backup in the event of failure of the main propulsion system. A dual-sleeve, tri-axial injection system was designed that utilizes a primary injector/combustor where 100 percent of the oxygen and 8 percent of the hydrogen is introduced; a secondary injector/combustor where 45 percent of the hydrogen is introduced to mix with the primary combustor gases; and a boundary layer injector that uses the remaining 45 percent of the hydrogen to cool the thrust throat/nozzle design. Hot-fire evaluation of this thruster with a BLC injection distance of 2.79 cm (1.10 in.) indicated that a specific impulse value of 390 sec can be attained using a coated molybdenum thrust chamber. Pulse mode tests indicated that a chamber pressure buildup to 90 percent thrust can be achieved in a time on the order of 48 msec. Some problems were encountered in achieving ignition of each pulse during pulse trains. This was interpreted to indicate that a higher delivered spark energy level ( 100 mJ) would be required to maintain ignition reliability of the plasma torch ignition system under the extra 'cold' conditions resulting during pulsing

The design and fabrication of a flight gas generator for the space shuttle were investigated. Critical performance parameters and stability criteria were evaluated as well as a scaling laws that could be applied in designing the flight gas generator. A test program to provide the necessary design information was included. A structural design, including thermal and stress analysis, and two gas generators were fabricated based on the results. Conclusions are presented

    Advanced acoustic cavity technology

A series of rocket motor firings was performed in a modified linear aerospike thrust chamber with the H2/O2 propellant combination to allow determination of the physical properties of the combustion gases in acoustic cavities located in the chamber side walls. A preliminary analytical study was first conducted to define theoretically both the appropriate cavity dimensions and the combustion gas flow field adjacent to the cavity openings. During the subsequent motor firings, cavity gas temperature profiles were measured and gas samples were withdrawn from the bottom of the cavities for compositional analysis by measurement of pressure/temperature variation and gas chromatography. Data were obtained with both radially and axially oriented cavities and with and without hydrogen bleed flow through the cavities. A simplified procedure was developed for predicting gas cavity and acoustic velocity for use in acoustic cavity design analyses

The Lie derivative, which has a wide range of application in physics and geometry, is trying to be examined on time scales. Firstly, nabla Lie bracket is defined on two-dimensional time scales. Secondly, the nabla Lie multiplication and some properties are given on the time scales. Lastly, for analyzing the differences between the real Lie multiplication and the nabla Lie multiplication, a numerical example is given

Pleomorphic adenoma of the palate in a child: : a case report

Salivary gland tumors are rare in children and the incidence differs from the adult counterpart. When salivary gland tumors do arise in children, they preferentially affect major salivary glands, but minor salivary gland tumors have also been reported. We reported the first case of palatal pleomorphic adenoma in a 13 year-old child from Thailand. She came to Sawanpracharak hospital with the chief complaint of a swelling at the left side of the palate. The oral mucosa covering the lesion was intact. Occlusal radiograph revealed no bony destruction. Incisional biopsy was performed on this patient. The biopsy showed several ducts which were lined by cuboidal cells. These ducts were surrounded by myoepithelial cells, some of which had the plasmacytoid appearance The patient was treated by wide local excision and no recurrence was observed 8 years after the surgery. Differential diagnoses of a palatal swelling in children and treatment of pleomorphic adenoma at the palate were also discussed

Analysis of the influence of tectonics on the evolution of valley networks based on Srtm Dem, Jemma River basin, Ethiopia

The Ethiopian Highlands are a good example of a high plateau landscape formed by a combination of tectonic uplift and episodic volcanism. Deeply incised gorges indicate active fluvial erosion, which leads to instabilities of over-steepened slopes. In this study we focus on the Jemma River basin, which is a left bank tributary of the Abay - Blue Nile in order to assess the influence of neotectonics on the evolution of its river and valley network. Tectonic lineaments, shape of valley networks, direction of river courses and intensity of fluvial erosion were compared in six subregions, which were delineate beforehand by means of morphometric analysis. The influence of tectonics on the valley network is low in the older deep and wide canyons and on the high plateau covered with Tertiary lava flows, whilst in the younger upper part of the canyons it is high. Furthermore, the coincidence of the valley network with the tectonic lineaments differs in the subregions. The direction of the fluvial erosion along the main tectonic zones (NE-SW) made it possible for backward erosion to reach far distant areas in the east. This tectonic zone also separates older areas in the west from the youngest landscape evolution subregions in the east, next to the Rift Valley

O antropologii filozoficznej w ujęciu historycznym (rozważania na marginesie koncepcji Kanta i Herdera)

The author recalls Immanuel Kant’s and Johann Gottfried Herder’s contributions to the development of philosophical anthropology. The former was the author of the famous ‘four questions’ which defined the subject and rank of a new philosophical discipline studying which studied. Herder, in turn, with his conception of man as Mängelwesen, contributed initiating of a close cooperation between philosophy and natural sciences. Kant’s and Herder’s significance for philosophical anthropology is not only historical. It seems that some of the ideas they developed (man in the horizon of metaphysics, humankind as a space of possibilities) could be used in order to systematise the contemporary discussion about man.Artykuł przypomina udział Immanuela Kanta i Johanna Gottfrieda Herdera w rozwoju antropologii filozoficznej.
