KK-number non-conserving decays: Signal of n = 2 excitations of Extra-Dimensional Models at the LHC

In the simplest universal extra-dimension models Kaluza-Klein (KK) parity distinguishes the states with odd and even KK-number. We calculate the coupling of a 2n-level top quark to a top quark and the Higgs scalar (both n = 0 states), absent at the tree level, which is mediated by strong interactions at one-loop. We show that the strength of this coupling is independent of n. We observe that the decay due to this coupling, which conserves KK-parity, can be a few per cent of the phase space suppressed decay to two n-level states which proceeds through tree-level couplings. We explore the prospects of verification of this result at the Large Hadron Collider through the production of an n = 2 KK top-antitop pair both of which subsequently decay to a zero mode top quark/antiquark and a Higgs boson.Comment: 11 pages, v2: One additional figure (published version

Exploration prospects of a long baseline Beta Beam neutrino experiment with an iron calorimeter detector

A high intensity source of a single neutrino flavour with known spectrum is most desirable for precision measurements, the consensus direction for the future. The beta beam is an especially suitable option for this. We discuss the prospects of a very long baseline beta beam experiment with a magnetized iron calorimeter detector. In particular, with the source at CERN and the detector at the proposed India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO) the baseline is near the `magic' value where the effect of the CP phase is small. We observe that this experiment will be well suited to determine the sign of m32−m22m_3^2 - m_2^2 and will be capable of probing θ13\theta_{13} down to about 1∘^\circ.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures, Latex, more discussions added, version accepted in Phys. Magic Baseline Beta Beam

We study the physics reach of an experiment where neutrinos produced in a beta-beam facility at CERN are observed in a large magnetized iron calorimeter (ICAL) at the India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO). The CERN-INO distance is close to the so-called "magic" baseline which helps evade some of the parameter degeneracies and allows for a better measurement of the neutrino mass hierarchy and θ13\theta_{13}.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, Latex (style files included); Talk presented by S.K.A. at the International workshop on Theoretical High Energy Physics (IWTHEP 2007), Roorkee, India, 15-20 March, 2007, to appear in the proceeding

Bibliometric analysis for 160 theses and 739 thesis articles collected from the Botany Department at The University of Burdwan in eight subdivisions of Botany during 1960-2000 has been carried out to determine year wise productivity, authorship pattern and collaboration. The study has identified that the highest number of thesis submission was 40 during 1981-1985 and the highest number of article submission was 189 during 1976-1980. The highest 22 number of theses were guided by Balen Nandi. Authorship trend is towards multiauthored papers. The Degree of Collaboration is 0.70. The most prolific author was M.A Choudhuri who topped the list with 54 papers during the period 1960-2000 followed by A Mukherjee with 48 publications, P.S Basu with 31 publications, K Gupta with 30 publications and B Nandi, with 27 publications. Among the top ranking journals publishing the papers are from India with 373 (50.47 %) publications followed by Germany with 61(8.29 %) publications, China with 53(7.17 %) publications and Netherlands with 45(6.09 %) publications
