Proximal femoral nail antirotation II in fixation of intertrochanteric fractures: retrospective and prospective observational study
Background: Intertrochanteric fractures occur mostly in elderly patients, and the outcome may be extremely poor if there is prolonged bed-rest. The best treatment for trochanteric fracture remains controversial. Proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA) II has excellent fit as the design is adapted to the anatomical situation of small statured patients also. It has a medial lateral angle of 5 degrees. It has several distal locking options viz static/dynamic. Objective of this study was to observe the operating time, blood loss and fracture union in intertrochanteric fractures treated with PFNA II from the data collected from patientâs case sheets and post-operative X-rays.Methods: 25 patients who were operated with PFNA II for unstable intertrochanteric fracture were selected using random selection and following parameters were noted from the records.Results: The mean age of the participants is 70.72±8.55 years with range from 52 years to 89 years. The mean duration was 1.98 hours ±0.66. The median duration was 2 with interquartile range from 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Mean blood loss was estimated to be 390 ml±62.78. The median blood loss was 370 ml with interquartile range from 360 to 420 ml.Conclusions: The PFNA II is an ideal implant for unstable intertrochanteric fracture since stable intramedullary fixation can be achieved with almost 100% union in the studied population

Interference due to Coherence Swapping
We propose a method called `coherence swapping' which enables us to create
superposition of a particle in two distinct paths, which is fed with initially
incoherent, independent radiations. This phenomenon is also present for the
charged particles, and can be used to swap the effect of flux line due to
Aharonov-Bohm effect. We propose an optical version of the experimental set-up
to test the coherence swapping. The phenomenon, which is simpler than
entanglement swapping or teleportation, raises some fundamental questions about
true nature of wave-particle duality, and also opens up the possibility of

Indigenous hydropriming practice for fastening seed germination might induce reciprocal effects in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) under âon-farmâ seed priming scenario
From the vedic times, the cultivation of crops in India, were meant for sustenance of mankind. The age old practices transferred across generations have being followed by the young and the old without a second thought. The main land agriculture that has adopted several of these practices has witnessed many a kind of ups and downs from replicating these practices. The lack of a strategic scientific validation aided with the misinformation by passing the indigenous knowledge across generations have caused many a kind of deleterious effects too. One of such traditional practice is the soaking of seeds prior to germination that is being scientifically stated as the seed priming which enhances the process of germination. Though the âon- farmâ seed priming technology have been pointed out as a sustainable option for the intensification of agriculture in marginal and tribal belts of the country, its recommendation needs prior standardization in and across various crop genotypes. Hence, in this study the effect of different durations of hydropriming on the germination and growth of Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) were assessed. BGD 72 variety of Desi and BGD 128 variety of Kabuli were used for the study. It was observed that there occurs wide variation in germination and seedling growth across the intervals of priming and each positive effect is sharply - duration and genotype specific.
Metal Cluster's Effect on the Optical Properties of Cesium Bromide Thin Films
Cesium Bromide films grown of glass substrates by thermal evaporation showed
interesting optical properties. The UV-visible absorption spectra showed peaks
which showed red shift with time. Structural and morphological studies
suggested decrease in grain size with time which was unusual. Theoretical
simulation shows the optical behaviour to be due to surface plasmon resonance

Capecitabine and Temozolomide in Neuroendocrine Tumor of Unknown Primary
Incidence of low grade well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors (NET) is on the rise. The North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society estimates that the United States has more than 150,000 gastroenteropancreatic NET patients. About 10% of metastatic NETs can be unknown primary, and due to their rarity, dedicated treatment algorithms and regimens are not defined. Combination of capecitabine and temozolomide (CAPTEM) is one of the systemic treatments used in gastroenteropancreatic NETs. We explored clinical activity of CAPTEM in NET of unknown primary. Methods. Retrospective review of NET of unknown primary managed at the University of Kentucky over the past five years (2012â2016). Result. 56 patients with NET of unknown primary were identified; 12 patients were treated with CAPTEM. Median progression-free survival on CAPTEM in grade II and grade III NET of unknown primary was 10.8 and 7 months, respectively. Six patients showed reduction in metastatic tumor volume at three-month CT scan. Three patients had stable disease and three patients showed disease progression at the first surveillance scan. Common side-effects were as follows: four patients developed grade II thrombocytopenia, three patients developed grade I lymphocytopenia, and two patients developed hand foot syndrome (grades I and III). Six patients developed grade I fatigue. Conclusion. CAPTEM should be considered for grades I and II NET of unknown primary, especially in the case of visceral crisis or bulky disease
Solitary coherent structures in viscoelastic shear flow: computation and mechanism
Starting from stationary bifurcations in Couette-Dean flow, we compute
nontrivial stationary solutions in inertialess viscoelastic circular Couette
flow. These solutions are strongly localized vortex pairs, exist at arbitrarily
large wavelengths, and show hysteresis in the Weissenberg number, similar to
experimentally observed ``diwhirl'' patterns. Based on the computed velocity
and stress fields, we elucidate a heuristic, fully nonlinear mechanism for
these flows. We propose that these localized, fully nonlinear structures
comprise fundamental building blocks for complex spatiotemporal dynamics in the

Marker-assisted improvement of grain protein content and grain weight in Indian bread wheat
The leading Indian wheat cultivar âHUW234â produces grain with relatively low protein content (GPC) and thousand grain weight (TGW). Therefore, marker-assisted backcrossing was used to improve these two important traits by introducing favorable genes/alleles from cv. âGlu133â, which harbors both alleles for both GPC (Gpc-B1) and TGW. Foreground selection for GPC was achieved using microsatellite markers Xucw108 linked with Gpc-B1 and Xgwm297 linked with TGW. Background selection applied to support recovery of the recurrent parent genotype was based on 86 genomically distributed microsatellites. A selected BC2F1 plant was the progenitor of 15 BC2F4 families, in which representation of the cv. HUW234 genome ranged from 89.5 to 93.0 %. The new derivatives of HUW234 were comparable in yield to the original cultivar, but with both significantly higher GPC and heavier kernels
Fluctuation, time-correlation function and geometric Phase
We establish a fluctuation-correlation theorem by relating the quantum
fluctuations in the generator of the parameter change to the time integral of
the quantum correlation function between the projection operator and force
operator of the ``fast'' system. By taking a cue from linear response theory we
relate the quantum fluctuation in the generator to the generalised
susceptibility. Relation between the open-path geometric phase, diagonal
elements of the quantum metric tensor and the force-force correlation function
is provided and the classical limit of the fluctuation-correlation theorem is

Wave forecasting and monitoring during very severe cyclone Phailin in the Bay of Bengal
Wave fields, both measured and forecast during the very severe cyclone Phailin, are discussed in this communication. Waves having maximum height of 13.54 m were recorded at Gopalpur, the landfall point of the cyclone. The forecast and observed significant wave heights matched well at Gopalpur with correlation coefficient of 0.98, RMS error of 0.35 m and scatter index of 14%. Forecasts were also validated in the open ocean and found to be reliable (scatter index < 15%). The study also revealed the presence of Southern Ocean swells with a peak period of 20-22 sec hitting Gopalpur coast along with the cyclone-generated waves
