Jamming of directed traffic on a square lattice

Phase transition from a free-flow phase to a jammed phase is an important feature of traffic networks. We study this transition in the case of a simple square lattice network for different values of data posting rate $(\rho)$ by introducing a parameter $p$ which selects a neighbour for onward data transfer depending on queued traffic. For every $\rho$ there is a critical value of $p$ above which the system become jammed. The $\rho-p$ phase diagram shows some interesting features. We also show that the average load diverges logarithmically as $p$ approaches $p_c$ and the queue length distribution exhibits exponential and algebraic nature in different regions of the phase diagram.Comment: 12 pages, 9 figure

South Asian Integration Prospects and Lessons from East Asia

In the context of the low levels of regional cooperation among South Asian countries when compared with the successful results from cooperation in East Asia (consisting of South East and East Asian countries), the objective of this paper is first to assess the prospects of cooperation among South Asian economies and then to draw lessons from East Asian regional experiments for South Asian regionalism for the betterment of these prospects. The main argument of the paper is that South Asia should adopt a twin-track approach : better integration within itself and better integration with rest of the world particularly East Asia. Determinants of Individual Investor Behaviour: An Orthogonal Linear Transformation Approach

Expected utility theory views the individual investment decision as a tradeoff between immediate consumption and deferred consumption. But individuals do not always prefer according to the classical theory of economics. Recent studies on individual investor behavior have shown that they do not act in a rational manner, rather several factors influences their investment decisions in stock market. The present study considers this theory of irrationality of individual investors and investigates into their behaviour relating to investment decisions. We examine whether some psychological and contextual factors affect individual investor behaviour and if yes which factors influences most. Extrapolating from previous literature on economics, finance and psychology, we surveyed individual investors to find what and to what extent affects their investment behaviour. Our conceptual analysis, empirical findings and the perspective framework that we have developed in the present study, provide five major factors that can influence individual investor behaviour in Indian stock market. The findings can be useful in profiling individual investors and designing appropriate investment strategies according to their personal characteristics, thereby enabling them optimum return on their investments.Individual investor, Psychological biases, Investment behaviour, Indian stock market, Behavioural economics.

A Second Look at Single Photon Production in S+Au Collisions at 200 A⋅\cdotGeV and Implications for Quark Hadron Phase Transition

We reanalyze the production of single photons in S+Au collisions at CERN SPS to investigate: i) the consequences of using a much richer equation of state for hadrons than the one used in an earlier study by us; and, ii) to see if the recent estimates of photon production in quark-matter (at two loop level) by Aurenche et al. are consistent with the upper limit of the photon production measured by the WA80 experiment. We find that the measured upper limit is consistent with a quark hadron phase transition. The measured upper limit is also consistent with a scenario where no phase transition takes place, but where the hadronic matter reaches a density of several hadrons per unit volume; which is rather unphysical.Comment: 10 pages, including 3 figures; Submitted to Euro.
