What explains the recent fluctuations in Japan's output? A structural factor analysis of Japan's industrial production

Since the mid-2000s, Japan's industrial production (IP) has been characterized by increasing volatility. To examine the background to this, we apply the structural factor analysis developed by Foerster, Sarte, and Watson (2011) and decompose variations in Japan's IP into aggregate and sectoral shocks taking input-output relationships between sectors into account. We find that aggregate shocks explain most of the fluctuations in Japan's IP and are highly correlated with variations in overseas economic growth, especially since the early 2000s. However, we find a large increase in the relative importance of sectoral shocks when focusing on the more recent increase in the volatility of IP. Specifically, our analysis suggests that the intersectoral spillovers brought about by the disruptions of supply chain network in the wake of Great East Japan Earthquake and the declines of domestic production (or production capacity) in some sectors as a result of a deterioration in global competitiveness or the shift to overseas production have contributed to the recent fluctuations of Japan's IP

Supplement data to Mukuhira et al. "Injection induced seismicity size distribution dependent on shear stress" published in Geophysical Research Letters (https://doi.org/10.1029/2020GL090934) This dataset contains the catalog of locations of microseismic events occurring in 2006-2007 that accompanied the fluid stimulation at the Basel Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS) site in Basel, Switzerland. The catalog includes event ID, occurrence date and time (trigger time), location, cluster ID and moment magnitude. The 1st row is a header line to explain data and units. The catalog was made using the multiplet analysis method by Asanuma et al., 2008 (Society of Exploration Geophysicists expanded abstract, 2008). For the detail, please see that paper, which is referenced below. Cluster ID 0 means non multiplet event (single event). The Catalog is the result of multiplet analysis performed using the 40-97 Hz frequency band of the waveforms. Moderating effect of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder tendency on the relationship between delay discounting and procrastination in young adulthood

Among adults with ADHD, one of the most common problems in daily life is procrastination. ADHD is characterized by attention as well as suboptimal decision-making deficits, indicating difficulty in making long-term reward choices. However, little is known about the relationship between suboptimal decision-making or temporal discounting (TD) and procrastination among adults with ADHD. This study aimed to investigate whether ADHD symptoms enhance the relationship between TD and procrastination. Fifty-eight university participants completed questionnaires about procrastination and an experimental task which measured TD rates in reward and punishment conditions. Only the reward condition showed that ADHD symptoms significantly strengthened the association between the TD rate and procrastination. This study revealed that even when ADHD symptoms were high, higher TD rates were associated with more procrastination, while lower TD rates were associated with less procrastination. The results suggest that procrastination interventions for adult ADHD-prone individuals need to pay attention to reward responses
