Geochemical characteristics of sediments of reservoir Zadębie in Skierniewice
Jedynie nieznacznie podwyższone zawartości Ba, Zn, Cu, Cr, Pb i Hg zaobserwowano w północnej części zbiornika. W osadach zbiornika odnotowano znaczne podwyższenie zawartości oleju mineralnego i WWA w porównaniu do ich zawartości w podłożu. Spośród analizowanych związków chloroorganicznych stwierdzono obecność izomeru α-HCH oraz p,p′-DDT i jego metabolitówIn the samples of sediment accumulated in the reservoir Zadębie and ground from the its bottom the contents of the As, Ba, Cr, Cd, Co, Cu, Hg, Mo, Ni, Sn, Sr, V, Zn and Ca, Fe, Mg, Mn, S, P, and TOC were determined. The content of mineral oil, 17 PAHs compounds, 7 PCB congeners and 20 organochlorine pesticides were determined as well. Sediment accumulated in the reservoir is characterized by very low contents of trace elements similar to the geochemical background values . Slightly increased content of Ba, Zn, Cu, Cr, Pb and Hg were observed in the northern part of the basin. There was a significant increase in the content of mineral oils and PAHs in sediments accumulated compared to their content in the bedding layer. Among the analyzed organochlorine compounds were detected only isomer of α-HCH and p,p′-DDT and its metabolites
Integrated Digital Receiver for the EPR Spectrometer
W pracy przedstawiono koncepcję zintegrowanego, cyfrowego odbiornika spektrometru EPR (elektronowego rezonansu paramagnetycznego), przeznaczoną do realizacji w technologii SoC na platformie Virtex-II Pro. The paper describes a design of an integrated digital receiver for the Electron Paramagnetic Resonance spectrometer. The design, based on a SoC technology, utilizes the PowerPC processor embedded in the Virtex-II Pro FPGA. Description shortly introduces an experimental environment (Fig. 1), focusing on interesting FPGA design issues. Two concepts of the device are presented. The first one was developed with the use of DSP (Fig. 2), and another includes an embedded microprocessor (Fig. 3). The design of FPGA includes a digital interface for fast, 800Msps analog-to-digital converter. Another important part of the design is a digital signal preprocessing unit, allowing fast, multiple data accumulation for separation weak signals from the noise. There are also given some details on construction of dual-ported accumulation buffers, accumulation controller and clocking system. Additionally the unit provides some means to control the remaining part of a measurement device as well as the pulse stimulation generator
Effect of austenite stability on fatigue performance of TRIP 700 steel
The role of austenite stability on fatigue performance of low-alloy TRIP steel 700 has been experimentally investigated. Heat treatment process was used to produce varying microstructures, characterized by different initial retained austenite volume fraction and austenite stability. Fatigue tests were carried out to determine the S-N fatigue curve of the materials. The austenite stability was measured with implementation of the Mσ s temperature detemination method. The effect of austenite stability on fatigue behavior was assessed by measurements of austenite volume fraction before and after fatigue testing. The experimental results showed that austenite stability impacts fatigue performance of TRIP steel in the high cycle regime
On the effect of austenite stability on high cycle fatigue of TRIP 700 steel
The high cycle fatigue behavior and the role of austenite stability on fatigue performance of low-alloy TRIP steel 700 have been experimentally investigated. The material was subjected to heat treatment in order to produce microstructures with different initial retained austenite volume fraction and austenite stability. High cycle fatigue tests were carried out to determine the S-N fatigue curve while austenite stability was measured by implementing a special technique for determination of M-s(sigma) temperature. The effect of austenite stability on fatigue behavior was assessed by measurements of volume fraction austenite before and after fatigue testing. The fatigue results indicated that austenite stability influences fatigue performance of TRIP steel in the high cycle regime, especially at high cyclic stresses. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. Fusion mass bone quality after uninstrumented spinal fusion in older patients
Older people are at increased risk of non-union after spinal fusion, but little is known about the factors determining the quality of the fusion mass in this patient group. The aim of this study was to investigate fusion mass bone quality after uninstrumented spinal fusion and to evaluate if it could be improved by additional direct current (DC) electrical stimulation. A multicenter RCT compared 40 and 100 μA DC stimulation with a control group of uninstrumented posterolateral fusion in patients older than 60 years. This report comprised 80 patients who underwent DEXA scanning at the 1 year follow-up. The study population consisted of 29 men with a mean age of 72 years (range 62–85) and 51 women with a mean age of 72 years (range 61–84). All patients underwent DEXA scanning of their fusion mass. Fusion rate was assessed at the 2 year follow-up using thin slice CT scanning. DC electrical stimulation did not improve fusion mass bone quality. Smokers had lower fusion mass BMD (0.447 g/cm2) compared to non-smokers (0.517 g/cm2) (P = 0.086). Women had lower fusion mass BMD (0.460 g/cm2) compared to men (0.552 g/cm2) (P = 0.057). Using linear regression, fusion mass bone quality, measured as BMD, was significantly influenced by gender, age of the patient, bone density of the remaining part of the lumbar spine, amount of bone graft applied and smoking. Fusion rates in this cohort was 34% in the control group and 33 and 43% in the 40 and 100 μA groups, respectively (not significant). Patients classified as fused after 2 years had significant higher fusion mass BMD at 1 year (0.592 vs. 0.466 g/cm2, P = 0.0001). Fusion mass bone quality in older patients depends on several factors. Special attention should be given to women with manifest or borderline osteoporosis. Furthermore, bone graft materials with inductive potential might be considered for this patient population
