The Hosotani Mechanism in Bulk Gauge Theories with an Orbifold Extra Space S^1/Z_2

We pursue the possibility of the scenario in which the Higgs field is identified with the extra-space component of a bulk gauge field. The space-time we take is M4^{4} \otimes S1^1/Z2_2. We show that a non-trivial Z2_2-parity assignment allows some of the extra-space component to have radiatively induced VEV, which strongly modifies the mass spectrum and gauge symmetry of the theory, realized by oribifolding. In particular we investigate the dynamical mass generation of zero-mode fermion and spontaneous gauge symmetry breaking due to the VEV. The gauge theories we adopt are a prototype model SU(2) and SU(3) model, of special interest as the realistic minimal scheme to incorporate the standard model SU(2) ×\times U(1).Comment: 16 pages 3 figure

Event-based Camera Simulation using Monte Carlo Path Tracing with Adaptive Denoising

This paper presents an algorithm to obtain an event-based video from noisy frames given by physics-based Monte Carlo path tracing over a synthetic 3D scene. Given the nature of dynamic vision sensor (DVS), rendering event-based video can be viewed as a process of detecting the changes from noisy brightness values. We extend a denoising method based on a weighted local regression (WLR) to detect the brightness changes rather than applying denoising to every pixel. Specifically, we derive a threshold to determine the likelihood of event occurrence and reduce the number of times to perform the regression. Our method is robust to noisy video frames obtained from a few path-traced samples. Despite its efficiency, our method performs comparably to or even better than an approach that exhaustively denoises every frame.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, 3 table

Allele Loss in MEN 1-associated Pituitary Tumor

We have examined the allele loss of chromosome 11 in a pituitary tumor from a patient with familial multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN 1). The extensive loss of chromosome 11, including loci of D11S149, HRAS1 and F2, was detected by the loss of heterozygosity. All of the lost alleles of these loci were transmitted from the unaffected father and not from an affected mother. This is the first evidence of allele loss of chromosome 11 in a pituitary tumor of MEN 1 and supports the idea that similar allelic deletion of MEN1 locus on chromosome 11 is the common genetic basis for tumorigenesis in the pituitary, endocrine pancreas, and parathyroid gland in MEN 1

Vortex generation in the RSP game on the triangular lattice

A new model of population dynamics on lattices is proposed. The model consists of players on lattice points, each of which plays the RSP game with neighboring players. Each player copies the next hand from the hand of the neighbouring player with the maximum point. The model exhibits a steady pattern with pairs of vortices and sinks on the triangular lattice. It is shown that the stationary vortex is due to the frustrations on the triangular lattice. A frustration is the three-sided situation where each of the three players around a triangle chooses the rock, the scissors and the paper, respectively

A straightforward preparation of chiral 5-(aminomethyl)oxazole derivatives from α-amino esters and α-lithiated isocyanides

An efficient and general preparation of several chiral N-protected 5- (aminomethyl)oxazoles has been accomplished by treatment of N-protected α- amino esters with α-lithiated isocyanides, obtained by metalation of methyl and benzyl isocyanides with BuLi or of ethyl isocyanide with lithium diisopropylamide
