    Insertion of a measurable function

Some theorems on the existence of continuous real-valued functions on a topological space (for example, insertion, extension, and separation theorems) can be proved without involving uncountable unions of open sets. In particular, it is shown that well-known characterizations of normality (for example the Katětov-Tong insertion theorem, the Tietze extension theorem, Urysohn's lemma) are characterizations of normal σ-rings. Likewise, similar theorems about extremally disconnected spaces are true for σ-rings of a certain type. This σ-ring approach leads to general results on the existence of functions of class α

Wear resistant multilayer nanocomposite WC1−x/C coating on Ti–6Al–4V titanium alloy

A significant improvement of tribological properties on Ti–6Al–4V has been achieved by developed in this study multilayer treatment method for the titanium alloys. This treatment consists of an intermediate 2 μm thick TiCxNy layer which has been deposited by the reactive arc evaporation onto a diffusion hardened material with interstitial O or N atoms by glow discharge plasma in the atmosphere of Ar+O2 or Ar+N2. Subsequently, an external 0.3 μm thin nanocomposite carbon-based WC1−x/C coating has been deposited by a reactive magnetron sputtering of graphite and tungsten targets. The morphology, microstructure, chemical and phase compositions of the substrate material after treatment and coating deposition have been investigated with use of AFM, SEM, EDX, XRD, 3D profilometry and followed by tribological investigation of wear and friction analysis. An increase of hardness in the diffusion treated near-surface zone of the Ti–6Al–4V substrate has been achieved. In addition, a good adhesion between the intermediate gradient TiCxNy coating and the Ti–6Al–4V substrate as well as with the external nanocomposite coating has been obtained. Significant increase in wear resistance of up to 94% when compared to uncoated Ti–6Al–4V was reported. The proposed multilayer system deposited on the Ti–6Al–4V substrate is a promising method to significantly increase wear resistance of titanium alloys

Simulation of EAS properties on the basis of high energy interaction model deduced from the accelerator data

    Get PDF
Calculations of extensive air showers in atmosphere were performed using formulae describing p-p and p-air nucleus interactions. The formulae fitted to the accelerator data were extrapolated taking the same trend up to 10 to the 16 eV. Above that energy it was assumed that the degree of scaling violating/alpha-parameter/ is saturating or even decreasing. The latter assumption follows from earlier work where it was found that without this restriction shower maxima at the highest energies are located too high in the atmosphere. Results of calculations have been compared with experimental data. The comparison was made separately for the curves obtained from the so called equal intensity cuts and for the Cerenkov data

Impact of MACRA Legislation and MIPS Scores on Cost Effective Analysis for Negative Pressure Wound Therapy Devices

    Get PDF
The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) changes reimbursement from a fee-for-service payment system to fee-for-value. Physicians will be scored according to the quality of their care in the MIPS program and will receive a positive or negative modifier to their Medicare reimbursement based on that score

The Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment. Variable Stars in Globular Clusters - IV. Fields 104A-E in 47 Tuc

Five fields located close to the center of the globular cluster NGC 104=47 Tuc were surveyed in a search for variable stars. We present V-band light curves for 42 variables. This sample includes 13 RR Lyr stars -- 12 of them belong to the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) and 1 is a background object from the galactic halo. Twelve eclipsing binaries were identified -- 9 contact systems and 3 detached/semi-detached systems. Seven eclipsing binaries are located in the blue straggler region on the cluster color-magnitude diagram (CMD) and four binaries can be considered main-sequence systems. One binary is probably a member of the SMC. Eight contact binaries are likely members of the cluster and one is most probably a foreground star. We show that for the surveyed region of 47 Tuc, the relative frequency of contact binaries is very low as compared with other recently surveyed globular clusters. The sample of identified variables also includes 15 red variables with periods ranging from about 2 days to several weeks. A large fraction of these 15 variables probably belong to the SMC but a few stars are likely to be red giants in 47 Tuc. VI photometry for about 50 000 stars from the cluster fields was obtained as a by product of our survey.Comment: Latex file, l-aa style, 10 pages, 7 ps figures included. Submitted to A&A.
