Impact of familiarity and gender differences on the stigmatisation of children with mental illness, and their parents
The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of familiarity and gender differences on the stigmatisation of children with mental illness, and their parents. A total of 234 participants took part in a study to ascertain stigmatisation of children with mental illness, and parents who have a child with mental illness. This study measured the attitudes of participants who have different levels of familiarity with the mentally-ill people and compared the attitudes of these people based on gender. All participants completed self-reported questionnaires about their attitudes towards stigmatisation and their levels of familiarity with people with mental illness. The results indicated that participants with a lower level of familiarity tended to have a higher level of segregation from children with mental illness. Females have a higher level of sympathy for parents who have a child with mental illness
The Need for Data Governance: A Case Study
Data governance is an emerging trend in enterprise information management. This paper explores the relationship between IT Governance and Data Governance. Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance requires accurate financial data and to achieve this IT controls are designed to ensure that data is correct and protected from unauthorised change. Data quality is measured by its accuracy, timeliness, relevance, completeness, trustworthiness and contextual definition. Good data quality requires effective data management. The research looks at the need for Data Governance to manage data effectively. This study examines a large organisation that has adopted an ad-hoc Data Governance model to manage its data. It was found that its data management efforts were hampered mainly by the lack of clear roles and responsibilities and the lack of mandate to carry out data quality improvement initiatives. In order to promote effective data management, this research identifies a Data Governance Structure and Framework with the emphasis on collaboration between business and IT to support organisations
Behaviour problems in dogs : the relationship between reported behaviour problems, causal attributions, and ineffective discipline
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between causal attributions of dogs' behaviour problems, ineffective discipline, and reported behaviour problems. One hundred dog owners (50 males and 50 females) from Selangor and Kuala Lumpur were surveyed using questionnaires containing the Causal Dimension Scale, Dog Discpline Scale, and Canine Behaviour Checklist. Participants were above 18 years old and owned a dog at the time of participation in this study. Results indicated that higher perceptions of stability of behaviour problems were significantly related to higher reported behaviour problems and higher ratings of ineffective discipline. Higher ineffective discipline was also related to higher reported behaviour problems. Lastly, ineffective discipline was found to be a mediator between perception of stability and reported behaviour problems. In conclusion, dog owners' perceptions affect their disciplining behaviours which ultimately influence the behaviour of their dogs
Development Of Si02 Thin Film On singlecrystal Sic By anodic oxidation technique.
Anodic silicon dioxide (Si02) thin film is growth on p- and n-type silicon (Si) and p-type 4H-silicon carbide (SiC) substrate with the thickness ranging from 50-130 nm.
Filem nipis Si02 tersadur anod telah ditumbuhkankan di atas substrat silikon (Si) jenis p dan n serta silikon karbida jenis-p dengan ketebalan dalam julat 50-130
Physical Characteristics Of Sol-gel Derived SiO2 Thick Film on 4H-SiC.
The excellent properties of SiC have led to the usage of this material as a substrate for high power, high temperature, and high frequency metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS)-based device applications [1,2,3]
Provision and Usage of Medical Services by Community Pharmacy: A Comparative Study of New York, Macao and Zhuhai (China)
Community pharmacies around the world are redefining their roles by experimenting to provide medical services directly to consumers. The aim of this study was to investigate the medical services provided by community pharmacies and consumers’ usage of these medical services. This study was carried out through semi-structured interviews with both community pharmacists and their consumers in New York, Macao and Zhuhai. Community pharmacists reported information about provision of medical services, and consumers provided information about their usage of medical services at community pharmacies accordingly. Through analysis of interview materials it showed that community pharmacies mainly provided free medical examination, reference books and booklet of drug information. Some community pharmacies provided health care lecture and founded own website for medicine information. But touch-screen computer querying system and telephone health care service had not been provided. Additionally the consumers’ usage of medical services at community pharmacy is obviously lower than provision by community pharmacy. The provision level of medical services by community pharmacy was relatively low and the types of medical services were relatively narrow. There was an obvious gap between provision of medical services by community pharmacies and usage of such services by consumers. The position of community pharmacy in national health system and capability of community pharmacy have impact on the medical services of community pharmacies.Key words: Community pharmacy; Medical services; Comparative study; New York; Macao; Zhuhai (China
The effects of owning a pet on self-esteem and self-efficacy of Malaysian per owners
In this research, 200 pet owners and non-pet owners were studied to ascertain the effects of owning a pet on the self-esteem and self-efficacy of the pet owners. All the respondents completed self-reported questionnaires. While the results showed no significant differences, it was noted that there was a tendency for people with pets to generally have slightly higher self-esteem and self-efficacy as compared to people without pets. The study also showed that higher self-esteem contributed towards predicting higher self-efficacy
The HARX-GJR-GARCH skewed-t multipower realized volatility modelling for S&P 500
The heterogeneous autoregressive (HAR) models are used in modeling high frequency multipower realized volatility of the S&P 500 index. Extended from the standard realized volatility, the multipower realized volatility representations have the advantage of handling the possible abrupt jumps by smoothing the consecutive volatility. In order to accommodate clustering volatility and asymmetric of multipower realized volatility, the HAR model is extended by the threshold autoregressive conditional heteroscedastic (GJR-GARCH) component. In addition, the innovations of the multipower realized volatility are characterized by the skewed student-t distributions. The extended model provides the best performing in-sample and out-of-sample forecast evaluations
A preliminary study on the social and emotional experience of parents of children with cleft lip and palate
There are very few studies that describe the emotional and social experiences of parents of children with cleft lip and?or palate who are undergoing treatment. To understand these circumstances, 34 parents of children with cleft lip and?or palate were surveyed to find out about the parents? social and emotional experiences of having children with this physical disorder. The research was carried out using structured questionnaires that parents completed during a support group meeting. The questionnaires included questions on the reactions of people toward the child, parents? emotional reactions, social support, coping strategies and resources used. Results of the study indicated that parents do need some assistance during the early stages of treatment. Furthermore, pediatricians play a very important role in the follow-up of treatment, empowerment of parents, and dissemination of information on the child?s condition. Contrary to much speculation, the parents reported that they are generally not stigmatized, and took a proactive approach towards finding out information about the disorder, and also about caring for their children. The study concluded by indicating that future studies would need to have larger samples, span a wider age groups, focus on the children?s first 12 months, and also their experiences when they begin to attend school
