Enhancing the potential of AI in Hedge Funds: AI-powered asset management

    Get PDF
Artificial intelligence in the financial industry is a rapidly growing trend, and the alternative asset management industry is no exception. This paper studied the key success factors for AI adoption in alternative investment firms. The author, who recently joined the alternative investment industry, was able to gather insights from his network. This paper seeks to explore the opportunities and risks associated with employing AI in alternative asset management as well as the challenges related to automating manual tasks across front, middle, and back offices, considering the impact of automation implementation on employee roles and responsibilities. A literature review on the application of AI in finance, specifically in hedge funds, as well as the barriers of AI adoption in organizations is presented. A research survey resulted in 103 responses from individuals working in the industry, enabling us to draw conclusions on formulated hypotheses, supported by statistical analysis

ThesisFashion is an extremely powerful medium and plays an important role in people's lives. Fashion is a form of communication and is an expression ofone's individual taste. The tvpe of clothes vou wear can define our age, status, social group and profession. The public generally wants to know and see what the latest styles are. People move in different social groups and dress accordingly to their social standards (Khomak 1989:8). The fashion photographer's job is to keep the public up to date with the latest fashion trends. The author, wants to create a need with the public to dress accordingly to their social needs and standards. The fashion photographer must be able to capture the moment and develop their own style. this would separate one fashion photographer from another. The fashion photographer should be able to take an ordinarv piece of clothing and tum it into something beautiful, making the model look breathtaking and elegant. The field offashion photography is very exciting and fast paced with beautiful models. money, etc.- it 's all part of being a successful fashion photographer. Fashion photograph v brought about many changes in the fashion industry. Thanks to magazines like Cosmopolitan, Ule. Vogue. etc. people could visualize themselves wea~ng the latest stvles. These days, not only women. but also men are aware of the importance of fashion (Van .laarsveld 1996: I ). The whole industry started to show enonnous growth as the first fashion photol,'Taphs were taken. It caused people to become more aware of ditferent styles, prices, etc. , causing competition between fashion houses. Fashion is a constant changing barometer, it reflects the social and political conditions of the world. Through fashion photography, we collect a unique and valuable record of the society of the time, it's moods and it's manners, and we perceive the current cultural pre-occupations, artistic intluences, theatrical styles, and the changing styles of salon and news photography (Devlin 1979 :11)

Explaining the lack of dynamics in the diffusion of small stationary fuel cells

Using the reaction of hydrogen with oxygen to water in order to produce electricity and heat, promises a high electrical efficiency even in small devices which can be installed close to the consumer. This approach seems to be an impressive idea to contribute to a viable future energy supply under the restrictions of climate change policy. Major reasons currently hampering the diffusion of such technologies for house energy supply in Germany are analysed in this paper. The barriers revealed, include high production costs as well as economic and legal obstacles for installing the devices so that they can be operated in competition to central power plants, beside others in tenancies.fuel cell, diffusion processes, valuation of environmental effects, technological innovation

Neighborhood Social Conditions Mediate the Association Between Physical Deterioration and Mental Health

This study investigates how neighborhood deterioration is associated with stress and depressive symptoms and the mediating effects of perceived neighborhood social conditions. Data come from a community survey of 801 respondents geocoded and linked to a systematic on‐site assessment of the physical characteristics of nearly all residential and commercial structures around respondents' homes. Structural equation models controlling for demographic effects indicate that the association between neighborhood deterioration and well‐being appear to be mediated through social contact, social capital, and perceptions of crime, but not through neighborhood satisfaction. Specifically, residential deterioration was mediated by social contact, then, social capital and fear of crime. Commercial deterioration, on the other hand, was mediated only through fear of crime. Additionally, data indicate that the functional definition of a “neighborhood” depends on the characteristics measured. These findings suggest that upstream interventions designed to improve neighborhood conditions as well as proximal interventions focused on social relationships, may promote well‐being.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/117109/1/ajcp9139.pd

The impact of sponsorship announcements on share prices in South Africa

    Get PDF
Much has been written, by academics, about the impact sponsorship announcements have on the share price performance of sponsoring firms. The objective of this study was to investigate if this phenomenon was true for JSE listed companies with particular focus on three announcement categories i.e. (i) new, (ii) renew and (iii) termination. The Efficient Market Hypothesis as an aspect of Investment Finance behaviour was explored to understand why sponsorship announcements would or would not have an impact on the share price performance. For this study, descriptive research was done with a causal design as the study tested the relationship between two or more variables. The study analysed 118 sponsorship announcements made by 19 JSE listed companies over a period of eleven years and five months. The study then assessed the share price performance for the period 120 days prior to and 120 days after the announcement date. The share price holding periods were adjusted for that of the average Financial Services (J212) Index, the Industrial (J212) Index and the Resources (J258) Index respectively to ascertain whether the returns were abnormal or not. The results have shown that there were no evidence that the announcement of a (i) new, (ii) renewed or (iii) terminated sponsorship do have a significant impact on the performance of share prices for JSE listed companies.Dissertation (MBA)--University of Pretoria, 2012.Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS)unrestricte

Perceived Water Quality and Reported Health among Adults during the Flint, MI Water Crisis

    Get PDF
Background and Purpose: In April 2014, the municipal water source for Flint, Michigan was changed from Lake Huron to the Flint River. Although residents reported concerns about the quality of tap water and resulting health problems, officials insisted that the water was safe. This study examined relationships between self-reported tap water quality during the water crisis and health conditions among Flint residents. Methods: Participants from each residential Census Tract in the City of Flint were recruited via address lists, online social media, and community-based events. The survey included mental and physical health items from the CDC’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System and an item on tap water quarter quality experiences. Analyses were weighted to be demographically representative. Results: Participants (N = 277) rated their tap water quality (taste, smell, appearance) as Poor (57%), Fair (20%), Good (13%), Very Good (6%), and Excellent (3%). Controlling for age, gender, years of education, whether respondents were African American or Hispanic/Latino/a, and population demographics, lower perceived tap water quality was associated with worse mental and physical health across all indicators. Conclusion: This study demonstrates associations of tap water quality experiences with reported poor physical and mental health among adults in Flint during the Flint Water Crisis

Unpacking estimates of task duration: The role of typicality and temporality

Research in task duration judgment has shown that unpacking a multifaceted task into components prior to estimating its duration increases estimates. In three studies, we find that unpacking a complex task can increase, decrease, or leave unaffected task duration estimates depending on the typicality of the unpacked components and their temporal position in the task sequence. Unpacking atypical long components increases task duration estimates, while unpacking atypical short components decreases estimates (Study 1). Unpacking atypical early components increases task duration estimates, while unpacking atypical late components decreases estimates (Study 2). Unpacking typical early or late components leaves estimates unaffected (Study 3). We explain these results based on the idea that task duration estimation involves a mental simulation process, and by drawing on theories of unpacking in probability judgment that emphasize the role of the typicality of the unpacked components. These findings hint at a deep conceptual link between probability judgment and task duration estimation but also show differences, such as the influence that temporality exerts on estimated duration. © 2013 Elsevier Inc
