S-duality and Tensionless 5-branes in Compactified Heterotic String Theory
We give a simple proof of the known S-duality of Heterotic String theory
compactified on a T^6. Using this S-duality we calculate the tensions for a
class of BPS 5-branes in Heterotic String theory on a circle. One of these, the
Kaluza-Klein monopole, becomes tensionless when the radius of the circle is
equal to the string length. We study the question of stability of the Heterotic
NS5-brane with a transverse circle. For large radii the NS5-brane is absolutely
stable. However for small radii it is only marginally stable. We also study the
moduli space of 2 Kaluza-Klein monopoles and show that it is equal to the
moduli space of a Heterotic A_1 singularity.Comment: Latex file, 23 pages, added referenc
Variable order integrators for the numerical solution of ordinary differential equations
Series of computer subroutines integrates systems of ordinary differential equations and is used for numerical quadrature
Multi-dimensional real Fourier transform
Four subroutines compute one-dimensional and multi-dimensional Fourier transforms for real data, multi-dimensional complex Fourier transforms, and multi-dimensional sine, cosine and sine-cosine transforms. Subroutines use Cooley-Tukey fast Fourier transform. In all but one-dimensional case, transforms are calculated in up to six dimensions
Easement Condemnation and State v. Doyle: Fair Market Value without a Market
D-branes in Nonabelian Orbifolds with Discrete Torsion
We study IIB string theory on the orbifold R^8/Gamma with discrete torsion
where Gamma is an arbitrary subgroup of U(4). We extend some previously known
identities for discrete torsion in abelian groups to nonabelian groups. We
construct explicit formulas for a large class of fractional D-brane states and
prove that the physical states are classified by projective representations of
the orbifold group as predicted originally by Douglas. The boundary states are
found to be linear combinations of Ishibashi states with the coefficients being
characters of the projective representations.Comment: 21 pages LaTeX, one eps figur
