RWE Energie Aktiengesellschaft continues the traditions of the more than 90-year-old Rheinisch-Westfaelisches Elektrizitaetswerk Aktiengesellschaft. It is the management company for the energy division of the newly-restructured RWE Group, and is one of Europe's major, highly competitive energy supply utilities. Its sphere of operations is centred on the provision of electricity supplies; the supply-sector branches of gas, heat, and water are being expanded with determination. The assured provision of reasonably-priced energy is viewed as a matter of course by every energy supply utility. Today, the efficient and economical use of energy, environmental protection, and a range of services that meets the requirements of customers and municipalities are also some of the company's prime objectives. RWE Energie's electricity production is based on a balanced energy mix consisting of lignite and hard coal, nuclear energy, gas, and hydropower.
