Popularization of Science and Culture by the Library of Łódź University

Dynamika systematycznego wzrostu, nowoczesna przestrzeń intelektu, labirynt znaków, magia zaangażowanych w swoją pracę ludzi z pasją – to tylko kilka haseł, które przychodzą na myśl, kiedy chcemy przywołać nazwę Biblioteki Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego i 70 lat jej historii. Łódź przed dwoma wiekami powstawała z tradycji niejednorodnych, i podobnie powstawał – jako mozaika różnych treści intelektualnych – Uniwersytet Łódzki.Popularization of science and culture by the Library of Łódź University has always been vital aspect of its activities. In the article are presented some selected initiatives taken up by The Library in the years 2006–2014. They originated in order to reach a wide circle of people and popularize the institution friendly to them, through conferences, seminars, exhibitions and meetings with interesting people from the world of the book. In the given period, The University of Łódź Repository and The Digital Library were created. The American Corner and The British Centre came into being. Owing to different initiatives taken up, The Library of Łódź University has become the place of various scientific, educational and cultural events for all users

Competency paradigm for educational practice. Fostering key competencies for socio-economic development

Socio-economic development rests upon many factors, among which the intangible factors, especially social and human capital, gain in importance. The development of the capital should take place through shaping of a wide range of competencies, with social competencies being those of crucial importance. It seems that in the nearest future, not only a high level of employees’ knowledge and abilities will be the key to functioning of establishments but also proper interpersonal behaviour and attitude. The article thus explains how the competency paradigm contributes to the progression of those abilities that are vital to socioeconomic development

Iranian language policy: a case of linguistic purism

The aim of this article is to describe Iranian language policy from its officially recognized birth in the XVIII century up to today. It will focus on one particular aspect of language policy – linguistic purism. Firstly, the concept of vatan ‘Iranian nationalism’ will be defined. This article will try to explain the role of nationalism in Iranian language policy as well as its direct relations with purism. Then, the history of Iranian puristic movement will be addressed. It is divided into two separate periods on the basis of different elements that were considered unwanted. Therefore, the period before and after the Islamic Revolution of 1979 will be analyzed separately. Ocenny charakter znamion przestępstw narkotykowych

The article discusses the evaluative and vague characteristics used in the descriptions of the various types of offences in the context of the nullum crimen sine lege certa principle. The analysis of these characteristics was conducted on the grounds of the provisions of the Act on Preventing Drug Addiction in terms of the so-called allowable span and freedom of decision left for the authorities applying the law. The results of this analysis indicate that often enough the use by the legislature of the evaluative characteristics strains the principle of nullum crimen sine lege certa. The article also raises the issue of the possibility of proving in a criminal trial that the offender’s conduct has fulfilled some specific characteristics of an offence. The subjectivity principle in criminal law in the context of evaluative characteristics has also been discussed. In conclusions, a possible solution to the problem of evaluative characteristics used in the provisions of the Act on Preventing Drug Addiction is proposed.Artykuł porusza problematykę ocennych i nieostrych znamion używanych w opisach różnych typów czynów zabronionych w kontekście gwarancyjnej funkcji prawa karnego i zasady nullum crimen sine lege certa. Analiza charakteru tych znamion została przeprowadzona w oparciu o przepisy ustawy o przeciwdziałaniu narkomanii pod kątem dopuszczalnej rozpiętości tzw. pasa nieostrości i luzu decyzyjnego pozostawionego organom stosującym prawo. Wyniki tej analizy wskazują, że niejednokrotnie posłużenie się przez ustawodawcę znamionami ocennymi nadwyręża zasadę nullum crimen sine lege certa. W artykule poruszona została również kwestia możliwości udowodnienia w procesie karnym realizacji przez sprawcę poszczególnych znamion czynu zabronionego oraz problematyka zasady subiektywizmu prawa karnego na tle znamion ocennych. W konkluzji autorka proponuje możliwe rozwiązania problemu znamion ocennych użytych w przepisach ustawy o przeciwdziałaniu narkomanii
