    Integral equation method for the electromagnetic wave propagation in stratified anisotropic dielectric-magnetic materials

    We investigate the propagation of electromagnetic waves in stratified anisotropic dielectric-magnetic materials using the integral equation method (IEM). Based on the superposition principle, we use Hertz vector formulations of radiated fields to study the interaction of wave with matter. We derive in a new way the dispersion relation, Snell's law and reflection/transmission coefficients by self-consistent analyses. Moreover, we find two new forms of the generalized extinction theorem. Applying the IEM, we investigate the wave propagation through a slab and disclose the underlying physics which are further verified by numerical simulations. The results lead to a unified framework of the IEM for the propagation of wave incident either from a medium or vacuum in stratified dielectric-magnetic materials.Comment: 14pages, 3figure

    Twofold Structured Features-Based Siamese Network for Infrared Target Tracking

    Nowadays, infrared target tracking has been a critical technology in the field of computer vision and has many applications, such as motion analysis, pedestrian surveillance, intelligent detection, and so forth. Unfortunately, due to the lack of color, texture and other detailed information, tracking drift often occurs when the tracker encounters infrared targets that vary in size or shape. To address this issue, we present a twofold structured features-based Siamese network for infrared target tracking. First of all, in order to improve the discriminative capacity for infrared targets, a novel feature fusion network is proposed to fuse both shallow spatial information and deep semantic information into the extracted features in a comprehensive manner. Then, a multi-template update module based on template update mechanism is designed to effectively deal with interferences from target appearance changes which are prone to cause early tracking failures. Finally, both qualitative and quantitative experiments are carried out on VOT-TIR 2016 dataset, which demonstrates that our method achieves the balance of promising tracking performance and real-time tracking speed against other out-of-the-art trackers.Comment: 13 pages,9 figures,references adde

    Projected Rotational Velocities for LAMOST Stars with Effective Temperatures Lower than 9000 K

This is an open access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY), https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/In Data Release 9 of LAMOST, we present measurements of v sin i for a total of 121,698 stars measured using the Medium Resolution Spectrograph (MRS) and 80,108 stars using the Low Resolution Spectrograph (LRS). These values were obtained through a χ 2 minimization process, comparing LAMOST spectra with corresponding grids of synthetically broadened spectra. Due to the resolution and the spectral range of LAMOST, v sin i measurements are limited to stars with an effective temperature (T eff) ranging from 5000 to 8500 K for MRS and 7000 to 9000 K for LRS. The detectable v sin i for MRS is set between 27 and 350 km s−1, and for LRS between 110 and 350 km s−1. This limitation is because the convolved reference spectra become less informative beyond 350 km s−1. The intrinsic precision of v sin i, determined from multiepoch observations, is approximately ∼4.0 km s−1 for MRS and ∼10.0 km s−1 for LRS at a signal-to-noise ratio greater than 50. Our v sin i values show consistency with those from APOGEE17, displaying a scatter of 8.79 km s−1. They are also in agreement with measurements from the Gaia DR3 and Sun et al. catalogs. An observed trend in LAMOST MRS data is the decrease in v sin i with a drop in T eff, particularly transiting around 7000 K for dwarfs and 6500 K for giants, primarily observed in stars with near-solar abundances.Peer reviewe

    Case report: Primary pericardial angiosarcoma, a rare cause of cardiac tamponade

    Primary pericardial angiosarcoma is a rare malignancy of the pericardium with variable clinical features and imaging characteristics. Herein, we report a case of histopathologically confirmed pericardial angiosarcoma in a 66-year-old man. The patient developed cardiac tamponade in a short time period. The transthoracic echocardiography showed the presence of multiple irregular echodensities, heterogeneous in echogenicity, encasing the apex of both ventricles in the pericardial space, initially misinterpreted as pericardial effusion. The patient died of cardiogenic shock despite undergoing a surgical pericardiectomy. Pericardial angiosarcoma can manifest as a mass obliterating the pericardial sac, rather than the typical pericardial effusion observed on echocardiography. Multimodality imaging studies aid in diagnosing primary pericardial angiosarcoma, but the final diagnosis relies on tissue histopathology

    Reduced SV2A and GABAA_A receptor levels in the brains of type 2 diabetic rats revealed by [18^{18}F]SDM-8 and [18^{18}F]flumazenil PET

    PURPOSE: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with a greater risk of Alzheimer's disease. Synaptic impairment and protein aggregates have been reported in the brains of T2DM models. Here, we assessed whether neurodegenerative changes in synaptic vesicle 2 A (SV2A), γ-aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA_A) receptor, amyloid-β, tau and receptor for advanced glycosylation end product (RAGE) can be detected in vivo in T2DM rats. Methods: Positron emission tomography (PET) using [18^{18}F]SDM-8 (SV2A), [18^{18}F]flumazenil (GABAA_A receptor), [18^{18}F]florbetapir (amyloid-β), [18^{18}F]PM-PBB3 (tau), and [18^{18}F]FPS-ZM1 (RAGE) was carried out in 12-month-old diabetic Zucker diabetic fatty (ZDF) and SpragueDawley (SD) rats. Immunofluorescence staining, Thioflavin S staining, proteomic profiling and pathway analysis were performed on the brain tissues of ZDF and SD rats. Results: Reduced cortical [18^{18}F]SDM-8 uptake and cortical and hippocampal [18^{18}F]flumazenil uptake were observed in 12-month-old ZDF rats compared to SD rats. The regional uptake of [18^{18}F]florbetapir and [18^{18}F]PM-PBB3 was comparable in the brains of 12-month-old ZDF and SD rats. Immunofluorescence staining revealed Thioflavin S-negative, phospho-tau-positive inclusions in the cortex and hypothalamus in the brains of ZDF rats and the absence of amyloid-beta deposits. The level of GABAA_A receptors was lower in the cortex of ZDF rats than SD rats. Proteomic analysis further demonstrated that, compared with SD rats, synaptic-related proteins and pathways were downregulated in the hippocampus of ZDF rats. Conclusion: These findings provide in vivo evidence for regional reductions in SV2A and GABAA_A receptor levels in the brains of aged T2DM ZDF rats

    Remnant cholesterol is associated with cardiovascular mortality

    Background: Genetic, observational, and clinical intervention studies indicate that circulating levels of remnant cholesterol (RC) are associated with cardiovascular diseases. However, the predictive value of RC for cardiovascular mortality in the general population remains unclear. Methods: Our study population comprised 19,650 adults in the United States from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) (1999–2014). RC was calculated from non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) minus low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) determined by the Sampson formula. Multivariate Cox regression, restricted cubic spline analysis, and subgroup analysis were applied to explore the relationship of RC with cardiovascular mortality. Results: The mean age of the study cohort was 46.4 ± 19.2 years, and 48.7% of participants were male. During a median follow-up of 93 months, 382 (1.9%) cardiovascular deaths occurred. In a fully adjusted Cox regression model, log RC was significantly associated with cardiovascular mortality [hazard ratio (HR) 2.82; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.17–6.81]. The restricted cubic spline curve indicated that log RC had a linear association with cardiovascular mortality (p for non-linearity = 0.899). People with higher LDL-C (≥130 mg/dL), higher RC [≥25.7/23.7 mg/dL in males/females corresponding to the LDL-C clinical cutoff point (130 mg/dL)] and abnormal HDL-C (<40/50 mg/dL in males/females) levels had a higher risk of cardiovascular mortality (HR 2.18; 95% CI 1.13–4.21 in males and HR 2.19; 95% CI 1.24–3.88 in females) than the reference group (lower LDL-C, lower RC and normal HDL-C levels). Conclusions: Elevated RC levels were associated with cardiovascular mortality independent of traditional risk factors

    The lepton flavor violating decays ZliljZ\to l_i l_j in the simplest little Higgs model

    In the simplest little Higgs model the new flavor-changing interactions between heavy neutrinos and the Standard Model leptons can generate contributions to some lepton flavor violating decays of ZZ-boson at one-loop level, such as Zτ±μZ \to \tau^{\pm}\mu^{\mp}, Zτ±eZ\to \tau^{\pm}e^{\mp}, and Zμ±eZ \to \mu^{\pm}e^{\mp}. We examine the decay modes, and find that the branching ratios can reach 10710^{-7} for the three decays, which should be accessible at the GigaZZ option of the ILC.Comment: 12 pages, 9 figure

    Pre‐symptomatic transmission of novel coronavirus in community settings

    We used contact tracing to document how COVID‐19 was transmitted across 5 generations involving 10 cases, starting with an individual who became ill on January 27. We calculated the incubation period of the cases as the interval between infection and development of symptoms. The median incubation period was 6.0 days (interquartile range, 3.5‐9.5 days). The last two generations were infected in public places, 3 and 4 days prior to the onset of illness in their infectors. Both had certain underlying conditions and comorbidity.
