A method for the radioimmunoassay of diethylstilbestrol (DES) was established to evaluate the distribution of DES in patients with prostatic carcinoma receiving intravenous infusion of 500 mg of diethylstilbestrol diphosphate (DES-DP). The plasma DES concentration was markedly elevated to 4.9 μg/ml immediately after DES-DP infusion and rapidly decreased to 0.8 μg/ml at 3 hr after the DES-DP infusion. The DES concentration in the prostatic tissue was 1.6 μgig w.w. at 1 hr after infusion, and thereafter was predominantly similar to that in the plasma. The DES excretion in the urine was 23.7 mg at 0 to 3 hr after DES-DP infusion, and decreased gradually thereafter. In addition, the DES distribution in the subcellular fractions of benign hypertrophic prostates was studied following DES-DP infusion. The DES concentration in the nuclear fraction decreased with time. Furthermore, the protein specifically bound to DES was not detected in the cytosolic fraction. Therefore, the DES converted from DES-DP did not accumulate in the prostate. Subsequently, the bioavailabilities of DES were examined. The dihydrotestosterone (DHT) content of the prostatic tissue was significantly decreased at 24 hr after DES-DP infusion. However, the cytosolic androgen receptor content was insignificantly changed within 24 hr of infusion. Since the plasma luteinizing hormone (LH) level in the castrated patient with prostatic cancer was significantly lowered 3 hr after infusion, and further decreased with time, the main effect of DES was considered to be suppression of hypophyseal function

The ant fauna in a small yard in Bogor Botanic Garden, West Java,Indonesia was investigated using pitfall traps. Regular sampling was carriedout weekly or biweekly for 3.5 years from March, 2000 to November, 2003.The accumulation curve for the species number collected was asymptotic, indicating the completeness of the sampling. A total of 29424 individuals, represented by 55 species in 27 genera, 17 tribes and 6 subfamilies werecollected. Myrmicinae was the most abundant with 19 species (34.6 %) and19524 individuals (66.4 %), followed by Formicinae with 15 species (27.3 %)and 4470 individuals (15.2 %), and Ponerinae with 12 species (21.8 %) and2880 individuals (9.8 %). Aenictinae, Dolichoderinae and Cerapachinae had 4(7.3 %), 4 (7.3 %) and 1 (1.8 %) species, and 1716 (5.8 %), 832 (5.8 %) and 2(0.01 %) individuals, respectively. The present results were compared with Itoet al. (2001), who collected ant species in Bogor Botanic Garden using 7methods, including pitfall traps

Di-higgs enhancement by neutral scalar as probe of new colored sector

We study a class of models in which the Higgs pair production is enhanced at hadron colliders by an extra neutral scalar. The scalar particle is produced by the gluon fusion via a loop of new colored particles, and decays into di-Higgs through its mixing with the Standard Model Higgs. Such a colored particle can be the top/bottom partner, such as in the dilaton model, or a colored scalar which can be triplet, sextet, octet, etc., called leptoquark, diquark, coloron, etc., respectively. We examine the experimental constraints from the latest Large Hadron Collider (LHC) data, and discuss the future prospects of the LHC and the Future Circular Collider up to 100TeV. We also point out that the 2.4σ\sigma excess in the bbˉγγb\bar b\gamma\gamma final state reported by the ATLAS experiment can be interpreted as the resonance of the neutral scalar at 300GeV.Comment: 27 pages, 10 figures (v1); references added, 28 pages (v2); minor modifications, published version (v3
