Influence of Synbiotics on Selected Oxidative Stress Parameters
The aim of the present study was to assess synbiotic (Lactobacillus casei + inulin) influence on oxidative stress parameters such as concentrations of malondialdehyde (MDA), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), glutathione, and free sulfhydryl groups content. Experiments were carried out on healthy volunteers (n=32). The subjects were divided into women group (n=16) and men group (n=16) and randomly assigned to synbiotic and control groups. Blood samples were collected before synbiotic supplementation and after 7 wks, at the end of the study. The administration of synbiotic resulted in a significant decrease in MDA (p<0.01), H2O2 (p<0.01), and GSSG concentrations (p<0.05) as compared with the control groups and significant increase in the concentrations of GSHt (p<0.001), GSH (p<0.01), and -SH group content (p<0.05) versus control. Synbiotics containing L. casei plus inulin may have positive influence on selected oxidative stress markers
The Influence of Probiotic Lactobacillus casei in Combination with Prebiotic Inulin on the Antioxidant Capacity of Human Plasma
The aim of the present study was to assess whether probiotic bacteria Lactobacillus casei (4 × 10 8 CFU) influences the antioxidant properties of human plasma when combined with prebiotic Inulin (400 mg). Experiments were carried out on healthy volunteers ( = 32). Volunteers were divided according to sex (16 male and 16 female) and randomly assigned to synbiotic and control groups. Blood samples were collected before synbiotic supplementation and after 7 weeks, at the end of the study. Catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity, and the ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP) in human plasma were examined. The administration of synbiotics containing L. casei plus Inulin resulted in a significant increase in FRAP values ( = 0.00008) and CAT activity ( = 0.02) and an insignificant increase in SOD and GPx activity compared to controls. Synbiotics containing L. casei (4 × 10 8 CFU) with prebiotic Inulin (400 mg) may have a positive influence on human plasma antioxidant capacity and the activity of selected antioxidant enzymes

The meteorological index WZ method use for the valuation of air pollution with sulphur dioxide in winter
WZ index is an aggregated indicator of air pollution, that
encompasses the joint impact of various meteorological
elements on pollution (sulphur
dioxide) concentration level. Following meteorological
elements were taken into account:
mean daily air temperature, wind speed
at the height of 10 m above the ground level
at the time 12 UTC, precipitation, atmospheric
air pressure and existence of lower inversion
layer. The most often the maxima of WZ
index correlate in time with appearance of
maxima in air pollution in Decembers, Januaries
and Februaries
Porównanie sum opadu zmierzonych telepluwiometrem i deszczomierzem Hellmanna i na stacji Ursynów SGGW w latach 2001–2010
Popularization of automatic
methods of measuring meteorological elements
and substituting manual methods creates a
problem of maintaining homogeneity of measurement
series. In such situations it is necessary to
conduct measurements simultaneously, i.e. using
a method being introduced and a former method.
The analysis of measurement series carried out
simultaneously enables comparing and relating
measurements made by a new apparatus to already
existing results.
The present paper includes the results of the analysis
of differences between daily, monthly and
seasonal atmospheric precipitation values coming
from a 11-year series of simultaneous measurements
with a telepluviometer and the Hellmann
rain gauge.Upowszechnienie automatycznych metod
pomiaru elementów meteorologicznych i zastępowanie
nimi metod manualnych, stwarza problem
zachowania jednorodności serii pomiarowych.
W takich sytuacjach konieczne jest prowadzenie
równoległych pomiarów tj. wprowadzaną metodą
i dotychczas stosowaną. Analiza równolegle
wykonanych serii pomiarowych pozwala na porównanie
i „dowiązanie” pomiarów nowym przyrządem
do już istniejących wyników. W niniejszej
pracy zawarto wyniki analizy różnic sum dobowych,
miesięcznych i okresowych wysokości
opadu atmosferycznego z 11-letniej serii równoczesnych
pomiarów telepluwiometrem i deszczomierzem

The relationship between sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide concentration and type of air masses inflow in Ursynów WULS
This work shows description of the
state of air pollution by sulphur dioxide and
nitrogen dioxide in different air mass on Ursynów
WULS station. There are two main
purposes in this work. First purpose is to
calculate the value of SO2 and NO2 concentration
in station Ursynów WULS in dependence
on infl owing air mass. Second purpose
is to calculate the relations between concentration
of SO2 and NO2 in the air and some
basic meteorological elements such as air
temperature and relative humidity, wind velocity
and rain fall. The studies covered the
period of April 2001 to September 2006
Long-term total solar radiation variability in Warszawa within the period 1964–2013
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki analiz 50-letniej (1964–2013) serii pomiarowej całkowitego promieniowania
20,0 MJ∙m–2) sum dziennych promieniowania całkowitego oraz zmniejszenie udziału sum dziennych G poniżej 5,0 MJ∙m–2.This paper presents the results of a study that is based on 50-year series (1964–2013) of total solar radiation (G)
for Warszawa-Bielany – a station that is located in the northern part of the Warszawa agglomeration. A positive trend of G
(11.4 MJ∙m–2 per year) within the whole period was found and the increase rate was 3.3% of the average G value estimated
for 1964–2013. The annual G sum trends are negative before and positive after 1981. Similar trend patterns were found in
summer, autumn and winter, while the seasonal sum of G in spring was characterized by a positive trend throughout the
whole period 1964–2013. The distribution of daily sums of G has also changed since 1980 and frequency of values above
20.0 MJ∙m–2 and below 5.0 MJ∙m–2 were increased and decreased respectively
