An Analysis of Hawthorne and Akutagawa
âYoung Goodman Brownâ (1835) by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a short story criticizing the hypocrisy of Puritans of Precolonial America. The story, set in Salem, MA, depicts Goodman Brownâs journey into the forest where he discovers the moral turpitude of his fellow townsmen. âRashĹmonâ (1915) by RyĹŤnosuke Akutagawa, on the other hand, is a short story revealing the egoism of human beings. The story, set in Kyoto, Japan in the last years of the Heian Period, is about an unemployed servant who climbs up the ladder into the RashĹmon. Inside the gate, the servant meets an old woman and absconds after stealing the womanâs kimono. The works differ greatly in plot, setting, and cultural and historical background; however, when taking a formalist perspective, âYoung Goodman Brownâ and âRashĹmonâ both evince the characteristics of Dark Romanticism while sharing similar themes, symbols, and character development
Silicon spin diffusion transistor: materials, physics and device characteristics
The realisation that eaveryday electronics has ignored the spin of the carrier in favour of its charge is the foundation of the field of spintronics. Starting with simple two-terminal devices based on GMR and tunnel magnetoresistance, the technology has advanced to consider three-terminal devices that aim to combine spin sensitivity with a high current gain and a large current output. These devices require both efficient spin injection and semiconductor fabrication. In this paper, a discussion is presented of the design, operation and characteristics of the only spin transistor that has yielded a current gain greater than one in combination with reasonable output current
