    During 2015, its 117th anniversary year, MLA will celebrate a novel and permanent way of informing both residents and visitors to Philadelphia about the association. Several months ago, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission voted to approve the nomination of an official State Historical Marker to commemorate MLA\u27s founding in Philadelphia in 1898. The text of the marker will not be revealed until the marker\u27s dedication ceremony in keeping with the commission\u27s guidelines

    In response to the article in the Winter 2001 LOEX Newsletter, “Making Student-Friendly Instruction: Education or Edutainment?” a distinction was made between “our need to educate” and “our students’ desire to be entertained.” No one is denying the fact Mr. Bridges’ argument that “knowing how to do research, learning techniques for note taking or writing a proper footnote or bibliography is a serious exercise.” But I question the tone and need for strictly traditional methods in teaching these skills to the “modern student” expressed in the article

    In February 2006, Thomas Jefferson University went live with a new instant messaging (IM) service. This paper reviews the first 102 transcripts to examine question types and usage patterns. In addition, the paper highlights lessons learned in instituting the service. IM reference represents a small proportion of reference questions, but based on user feedback and technological improvements, the library has decided to continue the service

    Capturing Rowan University Student Scholars Symposium Posters in Rowan Digital Works: From Pilot to Reality

    On April 20, 2018 Rowan University hosted the 21st annual undergraduate STEM symposium, where 227 posters from various disciplines were presented to the University community. Full-text abstracts of the posters are available on a dedicated web site (http://stem.rowan.edu). The Institutional Repository committee of Rowan University Libraries wanted to archive digital copies of the posters in our IR (Rowan Digital Works) so they would be archived and globally accessible. Five posters were deposited in the pilot year of the project. On April 25-26, 2019 Rowan University will expand the STEM undergraduate poster symposium to include all disciplines across campus. My presentation will highlight the strategies, workflows and statistics in archiving student posters in the second year of archiving student posters. In addition, the presentation will highlight alternate uses of bepress software such as managing our Open Access Fund, Research Experience for Diversity and Inclusion Grant applications and First Generation College symposium
