Spinning BTZ Black Hole versus Kerr Black Hole : A Closer Look
By applying Newman's algorithm, the AdS_3 rotating black hole solution is
``derived'' from the nonrotating black hole solution of Banados, Teitelboim,
and Zanelli (BTZ). The rotating BTZ solution derived in this fashion is given
in ``Boyer-Lindquist-type'' coordinates whereas the form of the solution
originally given by BTZ is given in a kind of an ``unfamiliar'' coordinates
which are related to each other by a transformation of time coordinate alone.
The relative physical meaning between these two time coordinates is carefully
studied. Since the Kerr-type and Boyer-Lindquist-type coordinates for rotating
BTZ solution are newly found via Newman's algorithm, next, the transformation
to Kerr-Schild-type coordinates is looked for. Indeed, such transformation is
found to exist. And in this Kerr-Schild-type coordinates, truely maximal
extension of its global structure by analytically continuing to ``antigravity

JLIN: A java based linkage disequilibrium plotter
BACKGROUND: A great deal of effort and expense are being expended internationally in attempts to detect genetic polymorphisms contributing to susceptibility to complex human disease. Techniques such as Linkage Disequilibrium mapping are being increasingly used to examine and compare markers across increasingly large datasets. Visualisation techniques are becoming essential to analyse the ever-growing volume of data and results available with any given analysis. RESULTS: JLIN (Java LINkage disequilibrium plotter) is a software package designed for customisable, intuitive visualisation of Linkage Disequilibrium (LD) across all common computing platforms. Customisation allows the user to choose particular visualisations, statistical measures and measurement ranges. JLIN also allows the user to export images of the LD visualisation in several common document formats. CONCLUSION: JLIN allows the user to visually compare and contrast the results of a range of statistical measures on the input dataset(s). These measures include the commonly used D' and r(2 )statistics and empirical p-values. JLIN has a number of unique and novel features that improve on existing LD visualisation tools
Genome-wide linkage and association mapping of disease genes with the GAW14 simulated datasets
We combined the results of whole-genome linkage and association analyses to determine which markers were most strongly associated with Kofendrerd Personality Disorder. Using replicate 1 from the Genetic Analysis Workshop 14 Aipotu, Karangar, Danacaa, and New York City simulated populations, we determined that several markers showed significant linkage and association with disease status. We used both SNP and microsatellite markers to determine patterns and chromosomal regions of markers. Three consistently associated markers were C01R0050, C03R0280, and C10R0882. Using generalized linear mixed models, we modelled the effect of the three predefined phenotypic categories on disease status and concluded that the phenotypes defining the "anxiety-related" category best predicted the outcome
Embedded arrays of vertically aligned carbon nanotube carpets and methods for making them
According to some embodiments, the present invention provides a system and method for supporting a carbon nanotube array that involve an entangled carbon nanotube mat integral with the array, where the mat is embedded in an embedding material. The embedding material may be depositable on a carbon nanotube. A depositable material may be metallic or nonmetallic. The embedding material may be an adhesive material. The adhesive material may optionally be mixed with a metal powder. The embedding material may be supported by a substrate or self-supportive. The embedding material may be conductive or nonconductive. The system and method provide superior mechanical and, when applicable, electrical, contact between the carbon nanotubes in the array and the embedding material. The optional use of a conductive material for the embedding material provides a mechanism useful for integration of carbon nanotube arrays into electronic devices
Scalar Field Contribution to Rotating Black Hole Entropy
Scalar field contribution to entropy is studied in arbitrary D dimensional
one parameter rotating spacetime by semiclassical method. By introducing the
zenithal angle dependent cutoff parameter, the generalized area law is derived.
The non-rotating limit can be taken smoothly and it yields known results. The
derived area law is then applied to the Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black
hole in (2+1) dimension and the Kerr-Newman black hole in (3+1) dimension. The
generalized area law is reconfirmed by the Euclidean path integral method for
the quantized scalar field. The scalar field mass contribution is discussed

Axially symmetric rotating traversable wormholes
This paper generalizes the static and spherically symmetric traversable
wormhole geometry to a rotating axially symmetric one with a time-dependent
angular velocity by means of an exact solution. It was found that the violation
of the weak energy condition, although unavoidable, is considerably less severe
than in the static spherically symmetric case. The radial tidal constraint is
more easily met due to the rotation. Similar improvements are seen in one of
the lateral tidal constraints. The magnitude of the angular velocity may have
little effect on the weak energy condition violation for an axially symmetric
wormhole. For a spherically symmetric one, however, the violation becomes less
severe with increasing angular velocity. The time rate of change of the angular
velocity, on the other hand, was found to have no effect at all. Finally, the
angular velocity must depend only on the radial coordinate, confirming an

Ratios of Elastic Scattering of Pions from 3H and 3He
We have measured the elastic-scattering ratios of normalized yields for
charged pions from 3H and 3He in the backward hemisphere. At 180 MeV, we
completed the angular distribution begun with our earlier measurements, adding
six data points in the angular range of 119 deg to 169 deg in the pi-nucleus
center of mass. We also measured an excitation function with data points at
142, 180, 220, and 256 MeV incident pion energy at the largest achievable angle
for each energy between 160 deg and 170 deg in the pi-nucleus center of mass.
This excitation function corresponds to the energies of our forward-hemisphere
studies. The data, taken as a whole, show an apparent role reversal of the two
charge-symmetric ratios r1 and r2 in the backward hemisphere. Also, for data >
100 deg we observe a strong dependence on the four-momentum transfer squared
(-t) for all of the ratios regardless of pion energy or scattering angle, and
we find that the superratio R data match very well with calculations based on
the forward-hemisphere data that predicts the value of the difference between
the even-nucleon radii of 3H and 3He. Comparisons are also made with recent
calculations incorporating different wave functions and double scattering

Rotating traversable wormholes
The general form of a stationary, axially symmetric traversable wormhole is
discussed. This provides an explicit class of rotating wormholes that
generalize the static, spherically symmetric ones first considered by Morris
and Thorne. In agreement with general analyses, it is verified that such a
wormhole generically violates the null energy condition at the throat. However,
for suitable model wormholes, there can be classes of geodesics falling through
it which do not encounter any energy-condition-violating matter. The possible

Surface gravity in dynamical spherically symmetric spacetimes
A definition of surface gravity at the apparent horizon of dynamical
spherically symmetric spacetimes is proposed. It is based on a unique foliation
by ingoing null hypersurfaces. The function parametrizing the hypersurfaces can
be interpreted as the phase of a light wave uniformly emitted by some far-away
static observer. The definition gives back the accepted value of surface
gravity in the static case by virtue of its nonlocal character. Although the
definition is motivated by the behavior of outgoing null rays, it turns out
that there is a simple connection between the generalized surface gravity, the
acceleration of any radially moving observer, and the observed frequency change
of the infalling light signal. In particular, this gives a practical and simple
method of how any geodesic observer can determine surface gravity by measuring
only the redshift of the infalling light wave. The surface gravity can be
expressed as an integral of matter field quantities along an ingoing null line,
which shows that it is a continuous function along the apparent horizon. A
formula for the area change of the apparent horizon is presented, and the
possibility of thermodynamical interpretation is discussed. Finally, concrete
expressions of surface gravity are given for a number of four-dimensional and

Stretching Wiggly Strings
How does the amplitude of a wiggle on a string change when the string is
stretched? We answer this question for both longitudinal and transverse wiggles
and for arbitrary equation of state, {\it i.e.}, for arbitrary relation between
the tension and the energy per unit length of the string.
This completes our derivation of the renormalization of string parameters which
results from averaging out small scale wiggles on a string. The program is
