    Preparation of κ-Casein by Gel Filtration

    Abstract A procedure for the preparation of pure κ-casein by Sephadex gel filtration is described. Unreduced casein is filtered through a 2.5- by 95-cm column of Sephadex G-150 equilibrated with 0.005m triscitrate buffer, pH 8.6, containing 6 m urea. κ-Casein is excluded from the gel and emerges as a sharp peak at the void volume; all other caseins are retarded by the gel. The method is particularly suitable for preparing pure κ-casein in good yield from small quantities of whole casein, but larger amounts of κ-casein are readily prepared. The method is also suitable for the purification of κ-casein-rich preparations

In this paper we present a scheme for measuring individual density matrix elements in the photon number state representation.     A note on conductivity and charge diffusion in holographic flavour systems

    We analyze the charge diffusion and conductivity in a Dp/Dq holographic setup that is dual to a supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in p+1 dimensions with N_f<< N_c flavour degrees of freedom at finite temperature and nonvanishing U(1) baryon number chemical potential. We provide a new derivation of the results that generalize the membrane paradigm to the present context. We perform a numerical analysis in the particular case of the D3/D7 flavor system. The results obtained support the validity of the Einstein relation at finite chemical potential.Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures, v2 with minor correction

We show that a universal set of non-deterministic gates can be constructed using linear optics and photon counting.     Mobile Services Meet Distributed Cloud: Benefits, Applications, and Challenges

    As the explosive growth of smart devices and enormous new applications, the variety of corresponding cloud services has been growing quickly. The conventional centralized cloud was faced with an overhead on backhaul links and high latency. Accordingly, a decentralized cloud paradigm including edge computing, mobile edge computing, cloudlet, and so on, was introduced to distribute cloud services to the edge network which located in proximity to mobile devices few years ago. However, this paradigm was not paid attention at that time since cloud technology and mobile network communication were immature to motivate mobile services. Recently, with the overwhelming growth of mobile communication technology and cloud technology, distributed cloud is emerging as a paradigm well equipped with technologies to support a broad range of mobile services. The 5G mobile communication technology provides high-speed data and low latency. Cloud services can be automatically deployed in the edge networks quickly and easily. Distributed cloud can prove itself to bring many benefits for mobile service such as reducing network latency, as well as computational and network overhead at the central cloud. Besides, we present some applications to emphasize the necessity of distributed cloud for mobile service and discuss further technical challenges in distributed cloud

    Quantum State Tomography of Complex Multimode Fields using Array Detectors

    We demonstrate that it is possible to use the balanced homodyning with array detectors to measure the quantum state of correlated two-mode signal field. We show the applicability of the method to fields with complex mode functions, thus generalizing the work of Beck (Phys. Rev. Letts. 84, 5748 (2000)) in several important ways. We further establish that, under suitable conditions, array detector measurements from one of the two outputs is sufficient to determine the quantum state of signals. We show the power of the method by reconstructing a truncated Perelomov state which exhibits complicated structure in the joint probability density for the quadratures.Comment: 14 pages text and 3 figures.     Synthesis and anti-norovirus activity of pyranobenzopyrone compounds

    During the last decade, noroviruses have gained media attention as the cause of large scale outbreaks of gastroenteritis on cruise ships, dormitories, nursing homes, etc. Although noroviruses do not multiply in food or water, they can cause large outbreaks because approximately 10–100 virions are sufficient to cause illness in a healthy adult. Recently, it was shown that the activity of acyl-coenzyme A:cholesterol acyltransferase-1 (ACAT1) enzyme may be important in norovirus infection. In search of anti-noroviral agents based on the inhibition of ACAT1, we synthesized and evaluated the inhibitory activities of a class of pyranobenzopyrone molecules containing amino, pyridine, substituted quinolines, or 7,8-benzoquinoline nucleus. Three of the sixteen evaluated compounds possess ED[subscript]5[subscript]0 values in the low micrometer range. 2-Quinolylmethyl derivative 3A and 4-quinolylmethyl derivative 4A showed ED[subscript]5[subscript]0 values of 3.4 and 2.4 [mu]M and TD[subscript]5[subscript]0 values of >200 and 96.4 [mu]M, respectively. The identified active compounds are suitable for further modification for the development of anti-norovirus agents

    Stochastic String Motion Above and Below the World Sheet Horizon

    We study the stochastic motion of a relativistic trailing string in black hole AdS_5. The classical string solution develops a world-sheet horizon and we determine the associated Hawking radiation spectrum. The emitted radiation causes fluctuations on the string both above and below the world-sheet horizon. In contrast to standard black hole physics, the fluctuations below the horizon are causally connected with the boundary of AdS. We derive a bulk stochastic equation of motion for the dual string and use the AdS/CFT correspondence to determine the evolution a fast heavy quark in the strongly coupled N=4\N=4 plasma. We find that the kinetic mass of the quark decreases by ΔM=γλT/2\Delta M=-\sqrt{\gamma \lambda}T/2 while the correlation time of world sheet fluctuations increases by γ\sqrt{\gamma}.Comment: 27 pages, 5 figures; v2 final version, small changes, references adde

    We examine various manipulations of photon number states which can be implemented by teleportation technique with number sum measurement. The preparations of the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen resources as well as the number sum measurement resulting in projection to certain Bell state may be done conditionally with linear optical elements, i.e., beam splitters, phase shifters and zero-one-photon detectors.
