Demonstration of dispersive rarefaction shocks in hollow elliptical cylinder chains

We report an experimental and numerical demonstration of dispersive rarefaction shocks (DRS) in a 3D-printed soft chain of hollow elliptical cylinders. We find that, in contrast to conventional nonlinear waves, these DRS have their lower amplitude components travel faster, while the higher amplitude ones propagate slower. This results in the backward-tilted shape of the front of the wave (the rarefaction segment) and the breakage of wave tails into a modulated waveform (the dispersive shock segment). Examining the DRS under various impact conditions, we find the counter-intuitive feature that the higher striker velocity causes the slower propagation of the DRS. These unique features can be useful for mitigating impact controllably and efficiently without relying on material damping or plasticity effects

    Off-diagonal magnetoimpedance in field-annealed Co-based amorphous ribbons

The off-diagonal magnetoimpedance in field-annealed CoFeSiB amorphous ribbons was measured in the low-frequency range using a pick-up coil wound around the sample. The asymmetric two-peak behavior of the field dependence of the off-diagonal impedance was observed. The asymmetry is attributed to the formation of a hard magnetic crystalline phase at the ribbon surface. The experimental results are interpreted in terms of the surface impedance tensor. It is assumed that the ribbon consists of an inner amorphous region and surface crystalline layers. The coupling between the crystalline and amorphous phases is described through an effective bias field. A qualitative agreement between the calculated dependences and experimental data is demonstrated. The results obtained may be useful for development of weak magnetic-field sensors.Comment: 19 pages, 6 figure

Unified entropy, entanglement measures and monogamy of multi-party entanglement

We show that restricted shareability of multi-qubit entanglement can be fully characterized by unified-(q,s)(q,s) entropy. We provide a two-parameter class of bipartite entanglement measures, namely unified-(q,s)(q,s) entanglement with its analytic formula in two-qubit systems for q≥1q\geq 1, 0≤s≤10\leq s \leq1 and qs≤3qs\leq3. Using unified-(q,s)(q,s) entanglement, we establish a broad class of the monogamy inequalities of multi-qubit entanglement for q≥2q\geq2, 0≤s≤10\leq s \leq1 and qs≤3qs\leq3.Comment: 17 pages, 1 figur
