Renormalization Group Analysis of \rho-Meson Properties at Finite Density
We calculate the density dependence of the -meson mass and coupling
constant() for -nucleon-nucleon vertex at one loop using the
lagrangian where the -meson is included as a dynamical gauge boson of a
hidden local symmetry. From the condition that thermodynamic potential should
not depend on the arbitrary energy scale, renormalization scale, one can
construct a renormalization group equation for the thermodynamic potential and
argue that the various renormalization group coefficients are functions of the
density or temperature. We calculate the -function for
-nucleon-nucleon coupling constant () and -function
for -meson mass (). We found that the -meson mass
and the coupling constant for drop as density increases in the
low energy limit.Comment: 24 pages, 10 figures, revised versio
Coordinate Representation of the One-Spinon One-Holon Wavefunction and Spinon-Holon Interaction
By deriving and studying the coordinate representation for the one-spinon
one-holon wavefunction we show that spinons and holons in the supersymmetric model with interaction attract each other. The interaction causes
a probability enhancement in the one-spinon one-holon wavefunction at short
separation between the particles. We express the hole spectral function for a
finite lattice in terms of the probability enhancement, given by the one-spinon
one-holon wavefunction at zero separation. In the thermodynamic limit, the
spinon-holon attraction turns into the square-root divergence in the hole
spectral function.Comment: 20 pages, 3 .eps figure
Baryonic Response of Dense Holographic QCD
The response function of a homogeneous and dense hadronic system to a
time-dependent (baryon) vector potential is discussed for holographic dense QCD
(D4/D8 embedding) both in the confined and deconfined phases. Confined
holographic QCD is an uncompressible and static baryonic insulator at large N_c
and large \lambda, with a gapped vector spectrum and a massless pion.
Deconfined holographic QCD is a diffusive conductor with restored chiral
symmetry and a gapped transverse baryonic current. Similarly, dense D3/D7 is
diffusive for any non-zero temperature at large N_c and large \lambda. At zero
temperature dense D3/D7 exhibits a baryonic longitudinal visco-elastic mode
with a first sound speed \lambda/\sqrt{3} and a small width due to a shear
viscosity to baryon ratio \eta/n_B=\hbar/4. This mode is turned diffusive by
arbitrarily small temperatures, a hallmark of holography.Comment: V2: 47 pages, 7 figures, references added, typos correcte
Complementary vertices and adjacency testing in polytopes
Our main theoretical result is that, if a simple polytope has a pair of
complementary vertices (i.e., two vertices with no facets in common), then it
has at least two such pairs, which can be chosen to be disjoint. Using this
result, we improve adjacency testing for vertices in both simple and non-simple
polytopes: given a polytope in the standard form {x \in R^n | Ax = b and x \geq
0} and a list of its V vertices, we describe an O(n) test to identify whether
any two given vertices are adjacent. For simple polytopes this test is perfect;
for non-simple polytopes it may be indeterminate, and instead acts as a filter
to identify non-adjacent pairs. Our test requires an O(n^2 V + n V^2)
precomputation, which is acceptable in settings such as all-pairs adjacency
testing. These results improve upon the more general O(nV) combinatorial and
O(n^3) algebraic adjacency tests from the literature.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures. v1: published in COCOON 2012. v2: full journal

A phospholipase D2 inhibitor, CAY10594, ameliorates acetaminophen-induced acute liver injury by regulating the phosphorylated-GSK-3 beta/JNK axis
We examined the role of phospholipase D2 (PLD2) on acetaminophen (APAP)-induced acute liver injury using a PLD2 inhibitor (CAY10594). 500 mg/kg of APAP challenge caused acute liver damage. CAY10594 administration markedly blocked the acute liver injury in a dose-dependent manner, showing almost complete inhibition with 8 mg/kg of CAY10594. During the pathological progress of acute liver injury, GSH levels are decreased, and this is significantly recovered upon the administration of CAY10594 at 6 hours post APAP challenge. GSK-3 beta (Serine 9)/JNK phosphorylation is mainly involved in APAPinduced liver injury. CAY10594 administration strongly blocked GSK-3 beta (Serine 9)/JNK phosphorylation in the APAP-induced acute liver injury model. Consistently, sustained JNK activation in the cytosol and mitochondria from hepatocytes were also decreased in CAY10594-treated mice. Many types of immune cells are also implicated in APAP-induced liver injury. However, neutrophil and monocyte populations were not different between vehicle- and CAY10594-administered mice which are challenged with APAP. Therapeutic administration of CAY10594 also significantly attenuated liver damage caused by the APAP challenge, eliciting an enhanced survival rate. Taken together, these results indicate that PLD2 is involved in the intrinsic response pathway of hepatocytes driving the pathogenesis of APAP-induced acute liver injury, and PLD2 may therefore represent an important therapeutic target for patients with drug-induced liver injury.11Ysciescopu
A magnetization equation for non-equilibrium spin systems
A magnetization equation for a system of spins evolving non-adiabatically and
out of equilibrium is derived without specifying the internal interactions. For
relaxation processes, this equation provides a general form of magnetization
damping. A special case of the spin-spin exchange interaction is considered.Comment: 9 pages, LATEX file; talk given at Theory Canada III, June 13-16,

Associated Production of Heavy Quarkonia and Electroweak Bosons at Present and Future Colliders
We investigate the associated production of heavy quarkonia, with
angular-momentum quantum numbers ^{2S+1}L_J = ^1S_0, ^3S_1, ^1P_1, ^3P_J (J =
0, 1, 2), and photons, Z bosons, and W bosons in photon-photon, photon-hadron,
and hadron-hadron collisions within the factorization formalism of
nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics providing all contributing partonic
cross sections in analytic form. In the case of photoproduction, we also
include the resolved-photon contributions. We present numerical results for the
processes involving J/psi and chi_{cJ} mesons appropriate for the Fermilab
Tevatron, CERN LHC, DESY TESLA, operated in the e^+ e^- and gamma gamma modes,
and DESY THERA.Comment: 41 pages (Latex), 10 figures (Postscript
Near-Limb Zeeman and Hanle Diagnostics
"Weak" magnetic-field diagnostics in faint objects near the bright solar disk
are discussed in terms of the level of non-object signatures, in particular, of
the stray light in telescopes. Calculated dependencies of the stray light
caused by diffraction at the 0.5-, 1.6-, and 4-meter entrance aperture are
presented. The requirements for micro-roughness of refractive and reflective
primary optics are compared. Several methods for reducing the stray light (the
Lyot coronagraphic technique, multiple stages of apodizing in the focal and
exit pupil planes, apodizing in the entrance aperture plane with a special
mask), and reducing the random and systematic errors are noted. An acceptable
level of stray light in telescopes is estimated for the V-profile recording
with a signal-to-noise ratio greater than three. Prospects for the limb
chromosphere magnetic measurements are indicated.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figure
A new non-Fermi liquid fixed point
We study a new exchange interaction in which the conduction electrons with
pseudo spin interact with the impurity spin . Due to the
overscreening of the impurity spin by higher conduction electron spin, a new
non-trivial intermediate coupling strength fixed point is realized. Using the
numerical renormalization group (NRG), we show that the low-energy spectra are
described by a non-Fermi liquid excitation spectrum. A conformal field theory
analysis is compared with NRG results and excellent agreement is obtained.
Using the double fusion rule to generate the operator spectrum with the
conformal theory, we find that the specific heat coefficient and magnetic
susceptibility will diverge as , that the scaling dimension of an
applied magnetic field is , and that exchange anisotropy is always
relevant. We discuss the possible relevance of our work to two-level system
Kondo materials and dilute cerium alloys, and we point out a paradox in
understanding the Bethe-Ansatz solutions to the multichannel Kondo model.Comment: Revised. 20 page
Estimation of Fiber Orientations Using Neighborhood Information
Data from diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) can be used to
reconstruct fiber tracts, for example, in muscle and white matter. Estimation
of fiber orientations (FOs) is a crucial step in the reconstruction process and
these estimates can be corrupted by noise. In this paper, a new method called
Fiber Orientation Reconstruction using Neighborhood Information (FORNI) is
described and shown to reduce the effects of noise and improve FO estimation
performance by incorporating spatial consistency. FORNI uses a fixed tensor
basis to model the diffusion weighted signals, which has the advantage of
providing an explicit relationship between the basis vectors and the FOs. FO
spatial coherence is encouraged using weighted l1-norm regularization terms,
which contain the interaction of directional information between neighbor
voxels. Data fidelity is encouraged using a squared error between the observed
and reconstructed diffusion weighted signals. After appropriate weighting of
these competing objectives, the resulting objective function is minimized using
a block coordinate descent algorithm, and a straightforward parallelization
strategy is used to speed up processing. Experiments were performed on a
digital crossing phantom, ex vivo tongue dMRI data, and in vivo brain dMRI data
for both qualitative and quantitative evaluation. The results demonstrate that
FORNI improves the quality of FO estimation over other state of the art
algorithms.Comment: Journal paper accepted in Medical Image Analysis. 35 pages and 16
