The Impacts of High-Level Training: Five Musicians Who Transferred Their Skills to New Professions

This study examines five highly trained musicians who made the life-changing decision to leave their occupations and pursue professions in completely new fields. Portraitures were created to illustrate how these individuals went on to forge successful careers even though their new positions required vastly different skillsets. Through qualitative analysis, it was discovered that numerous skills appear to be transferable from long-term musical training to various career paths. By examining people who have excelled in both domains, common traits were uncovered and grouped into four categories: Cognitive, Expressive, Socio-Behavioral, and Skills Particular to the Craft.The purpose of this research was to identify the skills that musicians can carry over into new professions. Those who may be considering alternative fields of work as well as employers in non-musical arenas may discover that musicians can be desirable candidates for hire because of their numerous transferable skills. Understanding the training process of musicians may also help gather insights for improving curricula which conservatories can employ to prepare graduates for careers. Retrospective feedback from alumni provided this study with a backdrop as to whether coursework offered at their schools aligned with modern industry conditions. After conducting interviews, findings from this study revealed that highly trained musicians do possess many skills that can transfer into new domains, though hard skills should be acquired in the new field. However, the foundation on which a musician's skillset is built provides a formidable bedrock on which a variety of successful careers can be cultivated

The purpose of this project was to create a contemporary upcycled garment driven by the concept of the golden ratio through the use of re-purposed and post-consumer material which in this case came from used knit socks. This design project shows the designers interest in the ways of in which object becomes entangled with the concept of deconstruction and reconstruction. The fabric for this dress was created by placing and sewing together different size triangle shapes of socks by following golden ratio and the surface of the jacket was embellished by various sized fiber berries from socks materials. The main foot part of the socks was cut into triangle shapes and seamed together to create a dress. The ribbed cuffs parts of the socks were sewn together to create a bolero jacket. The toe parts of the socks were used to create fiber berries to embellish the bolero jacket

The purpose of this project was to develop a design using digital textile printing on organza fabric and op art inspiration. Additionally, the aiming of this project was to create a sensible, ready-to-wear garment, which could potentially be sold at any large retailers. Perspective Rays

The purpose of design was to develop a sustainable design through the use of re-purposed and post-consumer materials inspired by an Op-art artist. The work of British painter and designer Bridget Riley was used as a source of inspiration; her work is generally known for being one of the foremost examples of Op-art. Her distinctive style of black-and-white optical art paintings uses simple geometrical shapes that include circles, squares, or stripes to establish intricate and repetitive patterns that create an appearance of movement as well as other optical illusions (Biography, 2016). Several pairs of post consumer khaki pants in two different hues with different sizes and shapes were hand-cut and sewn together to create a fabric surface for the top and the skirt

Perspectives of Design Professionals in the Fashion Industry with respect to the Creative Design Process

The purpose of this study was to explore the perspectives of design professionals in the fashion industry in terms of their creative processes, and the study was specifically focused on seeking the importance of knowledge and skills, product development, reflections-in-actions of the design process, the designer\u27s role in the system, and fashion as communication during a fashion designer\u27s creative process. The results of this study supports previous findings that fashion designers must meet the needs of customers and it is critical to understand design problems and solutions in order to design a successful product. The importance of designer perceptions with respect to how knowledge and skills, including product development and reflect in action design process, play a communication role in creative processes, as found in this study, will help entry level designers and future designers to understand the industry\u27s expectations

A Factor Analysis of Urban Railway Casualty Accidents and Establishment of Preventive Response Systems

AbstractSince the commencement of urban railways in 1974 and KTX service in 2014, the use of railways has been steadily increasing. The number of people using rail transportation has been steadily rising. As a result, this has also led to an increase in the number of passenger-related accidents that are occurring within railway stations. In an effort to prevent such accidents, much of the rail operation system is now automated. Nevertheless, the potential risks of railway accidents are very much present today. This study has utilized the railway accident databases of rail operators to allow for analysis of different types of railway accidents, age of accident victims, gender of accident victims, pedestrian facilities involved in accidents, passengers involved in accidents, and underlying causes of rail accidents. Based on these statistics and analyses, this paper proposes the development of a railway safety education program and the establishment of railway safety education centers as a means of preventing railway accidents
