    The banff 2019 kidney meeting report (I): updates on and clarification of criteria for T cell- and antibody-mediated rejection.

    The XV. Banff conference for allograft pathology was held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics in Pittsburgh, PA (USA) and focused on refining recent updates to the classification, advances from the Banff working groups, and standardization of molecular diagnostics. This report on kidney transplant pathology details clarifications and refinements to the criteria for chronic active (CA) T cell-mediated rejection (TCMR), borderline, and antibody-mediated rejection (ABMR). The main focus of kidney sessions was on how to address biopsies meeting criteria for CA TCMR plus borderline or acute TCMR. Recent studies on the clinical impact of borderline infiltrates were also presented to clarify whether the threshold for interstitial inflammation in diagnosis of borderline should be i0 or i1. Sessions on ABMR focused on biopsies showing microvascular inflammation in the absence of C4d staining or detectable donor-specific antibodies; the potential value of molecular diagnostics in such cases and recommendations for use of the latter in the setting of solid organ transplantation are presented in the accompanying meeting report. Finally, several speakers discussed the capabilities of artificial intelligence and the potential for use of machine learning algorithms in diagnosis and personalized therapeutics in solid organ transplantation

    In this paper we describe the results obtained following the dissolution of copper precursors in supercritical carbon dioxide instead of conventional solvents. The precursors investigated have been restricted to co-ordination compounds of copper. The solubilities of copper acetylacetonate in supercritical CO2, as measured using a dynamic saturation technique, are reported at pressures between 100 and 200 bar and at two temperatures: 312.0K and 332.0K: for copper heptadionate solubilitites are reported at 312.0 K and in the pressure range of 100-200 bar. Other coordination compounds of copper were sintetized and their solubilities ar 312 K and 200 bar were determined. A row scale of solubilities in supercritical CO2 was been established

    Processing of carbamazepine\u2013PEG 4000 solid dispersions with supercritical carbon dioxide: preparation, characterisation, and in vitro dissolution

    The purpose of this study was to apply the attractive technique of the supercritical fluid to the preparation of solvent-free solid dispersions. In particular, the gas antisolvent crystallisation technique (GAS), using supercritical carbon dioxide as processing medium, has been considered to prepare an enhanced release dosage form for of the poorly soluble carbamazepine, employing PEG 4000 as a hydrophilic carrier. The physical characterisation of the systems using laser granulometer, powder X-ray diffraction, thermal analyses, and scanning electron microscopy was carried out: in order to understand the influence of this technological process on the physical status of the drug. The results of the physical characterisation attested a substantial correspondence of the solid stale of the drug before and after treatment with GAS technique, whereas a pronounced change in size and morphology of the drug crystals was noticed. The dramatic reduction of the dimensions and the better crystal shape, together with the presence of the hydrophilic polymer determined a remarkable enhancement of the in vitro drug dissolution rate.
