    The Effect of Using Computer Technology Tools to Enhance the Teaching-Learning Process in CAD-CAM-CNC Module in Mechanical Engineering Subject Area

    This study presents the evaluation of Computer Assisted Learning (CAL) package included in the teaching and learning methodology of computer aided design- computer aided design - computer numerical control (CAD-CAM-CNC) module. Three groups of students with similar pre-abilities were exposed to three different teaching learning methodologies.The effectiveness of these three methods was determined by questionnaires completed by the students and collected by first author. Their answers were analysed quantitatively and qualitatively. The various categories used in the questionnaire was student’s attitudes towards learning CAD-CAM-CNC subjects, students’ opinions about their lecturers approaches to teaching process, students’ opinions and views about various aspects the CAD-CAM-CNC. The study concludes that the students taught with a combination of CAL package and traditional methods were more effective, efficient and satisfied with their learning experiences. So the proposed hybrid learning method (CAI plus traditional teaching method) is most suited for CAD-CAM-CNC teaching.     Managerial motives in the market for corporate control.

    The study examines the impact of corporate takeover activities upon managerial and non-managerial remuneration in the acquiring companies. A regression model is empirically tested on a large panel data from LSE FT-All Share Index list for the period 1980 through 1992. The data is collected through DATASTREAM (361 companies) and also supplemented by a survey conducted by the researcher on Executive Share Options in a sample of organisations size 79 companies. The remuneration measures are regressed separately onto a common set of exogenous variables which measure corporate acquisition activities, size, performance and governance. The model thus is also employed to provide an explanation of the impact of corporate size, performance and governance upon managerial and non-managerial remuneration. The relationship is examined using Arellano and Bond's Generalised Method of Moments estimators after accounting for some of the statistical problems encountered when modelling the data. The findings of this study reveal that corporate size and acquisition activities are significantly related to managerial remuneration. The results also suggest that non-managerial remuneration is not significantly related to corporate acquisition but instead to corporate size, performance and governance

    The effectiveness of traditional teaching-learning process in Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Manufacturing CAM and Computer Numerical control CNC (CAD-CAM-CNC) module has been evaluated against recently developed two blended teaching learning models.     This paper presents a comparative analysis of the effectiveness of three teaching and learning methodologies used for teaching Mechanical Engineering students which focus on the attainment of learning outcomes for three modules namely; Automotive, Manufacturing, and Engineering Maintenance. The investigated delivery methods are: teacher-centered mode, student-centered mode, and interactive mode. The role of the teacher spanned from full explanation in the teacher-centered mode, to being a facilitator in the student-centered mode. In the Interactive mode, the role of the teacher was to support the students when they worked with complex mechanical components and tools. Each group was exposed to one teaching and learning methodology for the above mentioned three modules with an aim to measure the effectiveness of each learning methodology on the basis of higher order cognitive skills (HOCS) and lower order cognitive skills (LOCS) of Bloom’s cognitive domain. The results showed that student-centred and interactive modes are the most appropriate teaching and learning methodologies as these have have positive effect on students’ performance. It has been found that both student-centered and interactive methods are effective in attaining Automotive, Manufacturing and Engineering Maintenance outcomes at Mechanical Engineering specialisation.     Molecular genetic studies in Saudi population; identified variants from GWAS and meta-analysis in stroke

    Introduction: Stroke is a multifactorial and heterogeneous disorder, correlates with heritability and considered as one of the major diseases. The prior reports performed the variable models such as genome-wide association studies (GWAS), replication, case-control, cross-sectional and meta-analysis studies and still, we lack diagnostic marker in the global world. There are limited studies were carried out in Saudi population, and we aim to investigate the molecular association of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) identified through GWAS and meta-analysis studies in stroke patients in the Saudi population. Methods: In this case-control study, we have opted gender equality of 207 cases and 207 controls from the capital city of Saudi Arabia in King Saud University Hospital. The peripheral blood (5 ml) sample will be collected in two different vacutainers, and three mL of the coagulated blood will be used for lipid analysis (biochemical tests) and two mL will be used for DNA analysis (molecular tests). Genomic DNA will be extracted with the collected blood samples, and specific primers will be designed for the opted SNPs (SORT1-rs646218 and OLR1-rs11053646 polymorphisms) and PCR-RFLP will be performed and randomly DNA sequencing will be carried out to cross check the results. Results: The rs646218 and rs11053646 polymorphisms were significantly associated with allele, genotype and dominant models with and without crude odds ratios (OR’s) and Multiple logistic regression analysis (p < 0.05). Correlation between lipid profile and genotypes has confirmed the significant relation between triglycerides and rs646218 and rs1105364 6polymorphisms. However, rs11053646 polymorphism was correlated with HDLC (p = 0.04). Genotypes were examined in both males' vs. males and females' vs. females in cases and control and we concluded that in rs11053646 polymorphisms with male subjects compared between cases and controls found to be associated with dominant model heterozygote genotypes (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The results of the current study confirmed the SORT1 and OLR1 SNPs were associated in the Saudi population. The current results were in the association with the prior study results documented through GWAS and meta-analysis association. However, other ethnic population studies should be performed to rule out in the human hereditary diseases
