Regular and chaotic dynamics of a matter-wave soliton near the atomic mirror

The dynamics of the soliton in a self-attractive Bose-Einstein condensate under the gravity are investigated. First, we apply the inverse scattering method, which gives rise to equation of motion for the center-of-mass coordinate of the soliton. We analyze the amplitude-frequency characteristic for nonlinear resonance. Applying the Krylov-Bogoliubov method for the small parameters the dynamics of soliton on the phase plane are considered. Hamiltonian chaos under the action of the gravity on the Poincar\'e map are studied.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures, International Journal of Modern Physics B Vol. 28, No. 28 (2014

Fabrication of 1/20th scale wind tunnel model of jaguar aircraft

    Get PDF
Fabrication of scaled models of aircraft and other configurations for wind tunnel testing is a highly specialized task . This involves different types of precision machining operations to obtain the desired complex shapes with high levels of accuracy. Fabrication of models required for testing in the NAL wind tunnels were till recently undertaken in-house. The increased wind tunnel test requirements of various aerospace organisations in the Country, led to a substantial increase in the number of models to be fabricated. To meet the increased model fabrication work within the time frames of user organisations, it was decided to undertake part of the work in some external machine shop facilities under the broad supervision of NAL. The present exercise in among the first few attempts in that direction

Collective excitations of BEC under anharmonic trap position jittering

Collective excitations of a Bose-Einstein condensate under periodic oscillations of a quadratic plus quartic trap position has been studied. A coupled set of variational equations is derived for the width and the condensate wave function center. Analytical expressions for the growth of oscillation amplitudes in the resonance case are derived. It is shown that jittering of an anharmonic trap position can cause double resonance of the BEC width and the center of mass oscillation in the wide range of the BEC parameters values. The predictions of variational approach are confirmed by full numerical simulations of the 1D GP equation.Comment: This paper contains a manuscript - SolAnJPB.tex and figures (fig1 - fig1a.eps and fig1b.eps, fig2 - fig2.eps, fig3 - fig3a.eps and fig3b.eps, fig4 - fig4a.eps and fig4b.eps).
