    Perturbative QCD analysis of BϕKB \to \phi K^* decays

    We study the first observed charmless BVVB\to VV modes, the BϕKB\to\phi K^* decays, in perturbative QCD formalism. The obtained branching ratios B(BϕK)15×106B(B\to\phi K^*)\sim 15 \times 10^{-6} are larger than 9×106\sim 9\times 10^{-6} from QCD factorization. The comparison of the predicted magnitudes and phases of the different helicity amplitudes, and branching ratios with experimental data can test the power counting rules, the evaluation of annihilation contributions, and the mechanism of dynamical penguin enhancement in perturbative QCD, respectively.Comment: 14 pages, 2 tables, brief disscussion on hard sacle added, version to appear in PR

    Helicity conservation in inclusive nonleptonic decay B to VX: Test of long-distance final state interaction

    The polarization measurement in the inclusive B decay provides us with a simple test of how much the long-distance final-state interaction takes place as the energy of the observed meson varies in the final state. We give the expectation of the perturbative QCD for the energy dependence of the helicity fractions in a semiquantitative form.     B -> J/psi K^* Decays in QCD Factorization

    The hadronic decay B -> J K^* is analyzed within the framework of QCD factorization. The spin amplitudes A_0, A_\parallel and A_\perp in the transversity basis and their relative phases are studied using various different form-factor models for B-K^* transition. The effective parameters a_2^h for helicity h=0,+,- states receive different nonfactorizable contributions and hence they are helicity dependent, contrary to naive factorization where a_2^h are universal and polarization independent. QCD factorization breaks down even at the twist-2 level for transverse hard spectator interactions. Although a nontrivial strong phase for the A_\parallel amplitude can be achieved by adjusting the phase of an infrared divergent contribution, the present QCD factorization calculation cannot say anything definite about the phase phi_\parallel. Unlike B -> J/psi K decays, the longitudinal parameter a_2^0 for B -> J/psi K^* does not receive twist-3 corrections and is not large enough to account for the observed branching ratio and the fraction of longitudinal polarization.     Charmless two-body B decays: A global analysis with QCD factorization

    In this paper, we perform a global analysis of BPPB \to PP and PVPV decays with the QCD factorization approach. It is encouraging to observe that the predictions of QCD factorization are in good agreement with experiment. The best fit γ\gamma is around 7979^\circ. The penguin-to-tree ratio Pππ/Tππ|P_{\pi \pi}/T_{\pi \pi}| of π+π\pi^+ \pi^- decays is preferred to be larger than 0.3. We also show the confidence levels for some interesting channels: B0π0π0B^0 \to \pi^0 \pi^0, K+KK^+ K^- and B+ωπ+B^+ \to \omega \pi^+, ωK+\omega K^+. For BπKB \to \pi K^\ast decays, they are expected to have smaller branching ratios with more precise measurements.Comment: 20 pages, 4 figures, version to appear in Phys. Rev.

    Possible Large Direct CP Violations in Charmless B-Decays

    We discuss the perturbative QCD approach for the exclusive two body B-meson decays to light mesons. We briefly review its ingredients and some important theoretical issues on factorization approach. We show numerical results which are compatible with present experimantal data for the charmless B-meson decays. Specailly we predict the possibility of large direct CP violation effects in B0π+πB^0 \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-} (23±7(23\pm7 %) and B0K+πB^0\to K^{+}\pi^{-} (17±5(-17\pm5%). In the last section we investigate two methods to determine the weak phases ϕ2\phi_2 and ϕ3\phi_3 from Bππ,KπB \to \pi\pi,K\pi processes. We obtain bounds on ϕ2\phi_2 and ϕ3\phi_3 from present experimental measurements.Comment: 18 pages, latex, 8 figures and 8 tables, typos corrected and added more tables and references.     Direct CP Violation, Branching Ratios and Form Factors BπB \to \pi, BKB \to K in BB Decays

    The BπB \to \pi and BKB \to K transitions involved in hadronic B decays are investigated in a phenomenological way through the framework of QCD factorization. By comparing our results with experimental branching ratios from the BELLE, BABAR and CLEO Collaborations for all the B decays including either a pion or a kaon, we propose boundaries for the transition form factors BπB \to \pi and BKB \to K depending on the CKM matrix element parameters ρ\rho and η\eta. From this analysis, the form factors required to reproduce the experimental data for branching ratios are FBπ=0.31±0.12F^{B \to \pi}= 0.31 \pm 0.12 and FBK=0.37±0.13F^{B \to K}= 0.37\pm 0.13. We calculate the direct CP violating asymmetry parameter, aCPa_{CP}, for Bπ+ππB \to \pi^{+} \pi^{-} \pi and Bπ+πKB \to \pi^{+} \pi^{-} K decays, in the case where ρω\rho-\omega mixing effects are taken into account. Based on these results, we find that the direct CP asymmetry for Bπ+ππB^{-} \to \pi^{+} \pi^{-} \pi^{-}, Bˉ0π+ππ0\bar{B}^{0} \to \pi^{+} \pi^{-} \pi^{0}, Bπ+πKB^{-} \to \pi^{+} \pi^{-} K^{-}, and Bˉ0π+πKˉ0\bar{B}^{0} \to \pi^{+} \pi^{-} \bar{K}^{0}, reaches its maximum when the invariant mass π+π\pi^{+} \pi^{-} is in the vicinity of the ω\omega meson mass. The inclusion of ρω\rho-\omega mixing provides an opportunity to erase, without ambiguity, the phase uncertainty mod(π)(\pi) in the determination of the CKM angles α\alpha in case of bub\to u and γ\gamma in case of bsb \to s.Comment: 74 pages, 15 figures, 8 tables.     Nonfactorizable contributions to BD()MB \to D^{(*)} M decays

    While the factorization assumption works well for many two-body nonleptonic BB meson decay modes, the recent measurement of BˉD()0M0\bar B\to D^{(*)0}M^0 with M=πM=\pi, ρ\rho and ω\omega shows large deviation from this assumption. We analyze the BD()MB\to D^{(*)}M decays in the perturbative QCD approach based on kTk_T factorization theorem, in which both factorizable and nonfactorizable contributions can be calculated in the same framework. Our predictions for the Bauer-Stech-Wirbel parameters, a2/a1=0.43±0.04|a_2/a_1|= 0.43\pm 0.04 and Arg(a2/a1)42Arg(a_2/a_1)\sim -42^\circ and a2/a1=0.47±0.05|a_2/a_1|= 0.47\pm 0.05 and Arg(a2/a1)41Arg(a_2/a_1)\sim -41^\circ, are consistent with the observed BDπB\to D\pi and BDπB\to D^*\pi branching ratios, respectively. It is found that the large magnitude a2|a_2| and the large relative phase between a2a_2 and a1a_1 come from color-suppressed nonfactorizable amplitudes. Our predictions for the Bˉ0D()0ρ0{\bar B}^0\to D^{(*)0}\rho^0, D()0ωD^{(*)0}\omega branching ratios can be confronted with future experimental data.Comment: 25 pages with Latex, axodraw.sty, 6 figures and 5 tables, Version published in PRD, Added new section 5 and reference
