    Capabilities of technology utilization and technology integration : Impact of 3D technologies on product development process and performance

    Multi-functional technologies widely influence on organization and often require organizational technology integration capabilities to achieve the total effectiveness. Technology integration capability here implies not only utilizing technologies in the present setting of organizational environment but also reforming organizational process and structure towards total optimization. This paper aims to exam technology integration capabilities among Japanese and Chinese firms through questionnaire surveys regarding impact of 3D technologies on product development process and performance. The results indicated that Japanese companies improved their total performance with process reformation leveraged by 3D technologies; however, among Chinese companies, no significant relationships were observed among 3D technology usage, process reformation and the total performance improvement although they improve the partial performance such as manufacturability by utilizing the technologies. Chinese companies, which have a huge growing market and are on the process of rapidly improving their productivities without strong organizational inertia, could have enough advantage by utilizing technologies to improve the partial performance. On the other hand, Japanese companies, which compete in mature market and have already had highly efficient organizational process, could not find the merits of technology usage without technology integration capabilities. This would be regarded as disadvantage of process-advanced company that they cannot have enough incentive to introduce advanced technology and new entries have a chance to leap-frog the advanced companies in usage of technology in general.

    AbstractOpen Source Software (OSS) is a new paradigm to develop software by community, in which groups of developer collaborating each other. The method becomes very popular because the products of OSS projects, such as source code, documents, results of tests, are published by open-license. One of noticeable features of OSS is openness of project. Anyone can access the products of OSS projects. It is expected that the quality of products could be higher than those developed by conventional methods, as more people access OSS products and the chance to find defect could be larger. However, there are no established methods for the evaluation of OSS, neither actual terms of the evaluation of OSS. We propose an evaluation method, which is based on the maturity model of OSS development community

    Mass spectrum in a six-dimensional SU(n)SU(n) gauge theory on a magnetized torus

    We examine six-dimensional SU(n)SU(n) gauge theories compactified on a two-dimensional torus with a constant magnetic flux background to obtain a comprehensive low-energy mass spectrum. We introduce general background configurations including the magnetic flux and continuous Wilson line phases, consistent with classical equations of motion. Under the standard gauge fixing procedure, the complete mass spectrum in low-energy effective theory for the SU(n)SU(n) case is newly presented without imposing restrictions on the gauge fixing parameter. Our analysis confirms the inevitable existence of tachyonic modes, which neither depend on the background configurations of Wilson line phases nor are affected by the gauge fixing parameter. Masses for some low-energy modes exhibit dependence on the gauge fixing parameter, and these modes are identified as would-be Goldstone bosons that are absorbed by massive four-dimensional vector fields. We discuss the phenomenological implications associated with stabilization or condensation of the tachyonic states. Various mass spectra and symmetry-breaking patterns are expected with flux backgrounds in the SU(n)SU(n) case. They are helpful for constructing phenomenologically viable models beyond the standard model, such as gauge-Higgs unification and grand unified theories.Comment: 35 page
