    A framework of human–robot coordination based on game theory and policy iteration

    In this paper, we propose a framework to analyze the interactive behaviors of human and robot in physical interactions. Game theory is employed to describe the system under study, and policy iteration is adopted to provide a solution of Nash equilibrium. The human’s control objective is estimated based on the measured interaction force, and it is used to adapt the robot’s objective such that human-robot coordination can be achieved. The validity of the proposed method is verified through a rigorous proof and experimental studies

    Endemic melioidosis in central Taiwan—A longitudinal case cohort study

    BackgroundMelioidosis is a systemic and suppurative disease endemic in the Southeast Asia. In Taiwan, most cases are reported in the southern region and no relevant profiles have been reported in central region. In this study, we performed the epidemiologic and clinical analyses from the melioidosis cases in central Taiwan.MethodsThe demographic, clinical, laboratory, radiologic, and outcome profiles were collected retrospectively and analyzed from patients whom Burkhoderia pseudomallei was isolated from clinical specimens during the 12-year study period (2011–2022).ResultsTotally 11 melioidosis cases (10 males and 1 female) were diagnosed, among them only 2 (18.2%) cases lived in suburban areas. Seven (63.6%) cases were diagnosed during 2019–2020, and diabetes mellitus was the most relevant comorbidity (5, 45.4%). All cases presented with fever at arrival, but only 4 (36.4%) and 2 (18.2%) cases presented with dyspnea and shock, respectively. Pneumonitis and extrapulmonary involvement were found in 5 cases (45.4%) each. Appropriate empiric and targeted antibiotic treatments were found in 4 (36.4%) and 10 (91.0%) case, respectively. Two cases (18.2%) succumbed to infection despite appropriate treatment including targeted antibiotics.ConclusionMelioidosis has become endemic in central Taiwan. Septic patients who present with suppurative or undetermined foci and have unsatisfied responses to standard treatment should arouse clinicians to take melioidosis into consideration

    A Large Volume Multi-Anvil Apparatus for the Earth Sciences Community in Taiwan

    A modified DIA type multi-anvil apparatus was installed in the Department of Earth Sciences, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan. This modified DIA multi-anvil system is used with a hydraulic press that generates loads of up to 1000 tons and is the first multi-anvil press installed for geoscience research in Taiwan. In this paper, the geometry of the high-pressure apparatus is briefly described and the pressure calibration performed in the press is reported. The thermal behaviors of various pressure mediums, boron-epoxy, zirconia, and mullite, are also compared. Pressure calibrations at room temperature were performed with different cell designs, paying special attention to the so called ¡§D¡¨ factor, which is defined as the ratio of diagonal length of the cell assembly cube to the diameter of the cavity hole. For a given cell design, the sample-pressure efficiency for the three materials examined was similar. Calibrations with different cell designs showed that increasing the ¡§D¡¨ value results in greater pressure generation efficiency. By comparing the deformation behavior at high temperatures (up to 1200°C), the semi-sintered mullite and zirconia appeared to be better pressure mediums compared to boron-epoxy

    Improved quark mass density- dependent model with quark-sigma meson and quark-omega meson couplings

    An improved quark mass density- dependent model with the non-linear scalar sigma field and the ω\omega-meson field is presented. We show that the present model can describe saturation properties, the equation of state, the compressibility and the effective nuclear mass of nuclear matter under mean field approximation successfully. The comparison of the present model and the quark-meson coupling model is addressed.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figure

    Continuous role adaptation for human-robot shared control

    In this paper, we propose a role adaptation method for human-robot shared control. Game theory is employed for fundamental analysis of this two-agent system. An adaptation law is developed such that the robot is able to adjust its own role according to the human’s intention to lead or follow, which is inferred through the measured interaction force. In the absence of human interaction forces, the adaptive scheme allows the robot to take the lead and complete the task by itself. On the other hand, when the human persistently exerts strong forces that signal an unambiguous intent to lead, the robot yields and becomes the follower. Additionally, the full spectrum of mixed roles between these extreme scenarios is afforded by continuous online update of the control that is shared between both agents. Theoretical analysis shows that the resulting shared control is optimal with respect to a two-agent coordination game. Experimental results illustrate better overall performance, in terms of both error and effort, compared to fixed-role interactions
