Robust and Scalable Scheme to Generate Large-Scale Entanglement Webs

    Get PDF
We propose a robust and scalable scheme to generate an NN-qubit WW state among separated quantum nodes (cavity-QED systems) by using linear optics and postselections. The present scheme inherits the robustness of the Barrett-Kok scheme [Phys. Rev. A {\bf 71}, 060310(R) (2005)]. The scalability is also ensured in the sense that an arbitrarily large NN-qubit WW state can be generated with a quasi-polynomial overhead 2O[(log2N)2]\sim 2^{O[(\log_2 N)^2]}. The process to breed the WW states, which we introduce to achieve the scalability, is quite simple and efficient, and can be applied for other physical systems.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

Few-shot Personalized Saliency Prediction Based on Inter-personnel Gaze Patterns

This paper presents few-shot personalized saliency prediction based on inter-personnel gaze patterns. In contrast to a general saliency map, a personalized saliecny map (PSM) has been great potential since its map indicates the person-specific visual attention that is useful for obtaining individual visual preferences from heterogeneity of gazed areas. The PSM prediction is needed for acquiring the PSM for the unseen image, but its prediction is still a challenging task due to the complexity of individual gaze patterns. For modeling individual gaze patterns for various images, although the eye-tracking data obtained from each person is necessary to construct PSMs, it is difficult to acquire the massive amounts of such data. Here, one solution for efficient PSM prediction from the limited amount of data can be the effective use of eye-tracking data obtained from other persons. In this paper, to effectively treat the PSMs of other persons, we focus on the effective selection of images to acquire eye-tracking data and the preservation of structural information of PSMs of other persons. In the experimental results, we confirm that the above two focuses are effective for the PSM prediction with the limited amount of eye-tracking data.Comment: 5pages, 3 figure

A feasibility study of the measurement of Higgs pair creation at a Photon Linear Collider

    Get PDF
We studied the feasibility of the measurement of Higgs pair creation at a Photon Linear Collider (PLC). From the sensitivity to the anomalous self-coupling of the Higgs boson, the optimum γγ\gamma \gamma collision energy was found to be around 270 GeV for a Higgs mass of 120 GeV/c2c^2. We found that large backgrounds such as γγW+W,ZZ,\gamma \gamma \rightarrow W^+W^-, ZZ, and bbˉbbˉb\bar{b}b\bar{b}, can be suppressed if correct assignment of tracks to parent partons is achieved and Higgs pair events can be observed with a statistical significance of 5σ\sim 5 \sigma by operating the PLC for 5 years.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figures, 5 table

Is Adenosine Deaminase in Pleural Fluid a Useful Marker for Differentiating Tuberculosis from Lung Cancer or Mesothelioma in Japan, a Country with Intermediate Incidence of Tuberculosis?

The objective of this study was to evaluate the utility of the determination of adenosine deaminase (ADA) level in pleural fluid for the differential diagnosis between tuberculous pleural effusion (TPE) and malignant pleural effusion (MPE) in Japan, a country with intermediate incidence of tuberculosis (TB). We retrospectively reviewed the clinical records of 435 patients with pleural effusion and investigated their pleural ADA levels as determined by an auto analyzer. ROC analysis was also performed. The study included patients with MPE (n=188), TPE (n=124), benign nontuberculous pleural effusion (n=94), and pleural effusion of unknown etiology (n=29). The median ADA level in the TPE group was 70.8U/L, which was significantly higher than that in any other groups (p<0.05). The area under the curve (AUC) in ROC analysis was 0.895. With a cut-off level for ADA of 36U/L, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value were 85.5%, 86.5%, 69.7%, and 93.6%, respectively. As many as 9% of patients with lung cancer and 15% of those with mesothelioma were false-positive with this ADA cutoff setting. Although the ADA activity in pleural fluid can help in the diagnosis of TPE, it should be noted that some cases of lung cancer or mesothelioma show high ADA activity in geographical regions with intermediate incidence of TB, in contrast to high prevalence areas

Recurrent superior mediastinal primary hemangiopericytoma 23 years after the complete initial excision: a case report.

    Get PDF
We describe here a patient with a recurrent hemangiopericytoma of the superior mediastinum 23 years after an initial complete resection. In the current biopsy specimen, the tumor cells were much more anaplastic than those seen 23 years ago. Although the patient was treated with chemotherapy, which consisted of ifosfamide and epirubicin, the tumor was unresponsive and he died 6 months later from disease progression. Careful long-term follow-up is mandatory for patients with hemangiopericytomas because recurrence with greater malignancy can develop following an extended disease-free interval.</p
