An Alternative Analysis of the Discourse by Descartes, Kant and Hegel in terms of the Ethical Structure of the Kanun

The ethical structure of the Albanian customary code, the Kanun, is deemed to represent the ethical value system of a society without state power. In spite of the appearance of civilizations and the resultant advent of an incipient state power, humans seemed to have known only the ethical value system of a society without state power until Gotama, Socrates, Plato and Jesus proposed new religious and philosophical doctrines. The basic trait of these religious and philosophical doctrines, which try to antagonize the ethical value system of a society without state power by eliminating the emotional aspect of humanity from the ethical value system, has been inherited by western philosophers such as Descartes, Kant and Hegel. The discourses by Descartes, Kant and Hegel were reviewed while paying attention to how they dealt with the sensuous and emotional aspects of humanity. The metaphysical implications of the ethical structure of the Kanun surfaced through the critical reviewing of their philosophy, and a hypothesis concerning its origin was presented

Mechanistic Insights into Rhenium-Catalyzed Regioselective C-Alkenylation of Phenols with Internal Alkynes

A (μ-aryloxo)rhenium complex was isolated and confirmed as a key precatalyst for rhenium-catalyzed ortho-alkenylation (C-alkenylation) of unprotected phenols with alkynes. The reaction exclusively provided ortho-alkenylphenols; the formation of para or multiply alkenylated phenols and hydrophenoxylation (O-alkenylation) products was not observed. Several mechanistic experiments excluded a classical Friedel-Crafts-type mechanism, leading to the proposed phenolic hydroxyl group assisted electrophilic alkenylation as the most plausible reaction mechanism. For this purpose, the use of rhenium, a metal between the early and late transition metals in the periodic table, was key for the activation of both the soft carbon-carbon triple bond of the alkyne and the hard oxygen atom of the phenol, at the same time. ortho-Selective alkenylation with allenes also provided the corresponding adducts with a substitution pattern different from that obtained by the addition reaction with alkynes

Inhibition of antithrombin by hyaluronic acid may be involved in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis

Thrombin is a key factor in the stimulation of fibrin deposition, angiogenesis, proinflammatory processes, and proliferation of fibroblast-like cells. Abnormalities in these processes are primary features of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in synovial tissues. Tissue destruction in joints causes the accumulation of large quantities of free hyaluronic acid (HA) in RA synovial fluid. The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of HA and several other glycosaminoglycans on antithrombin, a plasma inhibitor of thrombin. Various glycosaminoglycans, including HA, chondroitin sulfate, keratan sulfate, heparin, and heparan, were incubated with human antithrombin III in vitro. The residual activity of antithrombin was determined using a thrombin-specific chromogenic assay. HA concentrations ranging from 250 to 1000 μg/ml significantly blocked the ability of antithrombin to inhibit thrombin in the presence of Ca(2+ )or Fe(3+), and chondroitin A, B and C also reduced this ability under the same conditions but to a lesser extent. Our study suggests that the high concentration of free HA in RA synovium may block antithrombin locally, thereby deregulating thrombin activity to drive the pathogenic process of RA under physiological conditions. The study also helps to explain why RA occurs and develops in joint tissue, because the inflamed RA synovium is uniquely rich in free HA along with extracellular matrix degeneration. Our findings are consistent with those of others regarding increased coagulation activity in RA synovium

Rhenium-Catalyzed Regioselective ortho-Alkenylation and [3 + 2 + 1] Cycloaddition of Phenols with Internal Alkynes

An operationally simple and direct rhenium-catalyzed ortho-alkenylation (C-alkenylation) of unprotected phenols with alkynes was developed. The protocol provided ortho-alkenylphenols exclusively, and formation of para- or multiply alkenylated phenols and hydrophenoxylation (O-alkenylation) products were not observed. The [3 + 2 + 1] cycloaddition of phenols and two alkynes via ortho-alkenylation was also demonstrated, in which the alkynes functioned as both two- and one-carbon units. These reactions proceeded with readily available starting materials under neutral conditions without additional ligands

Fish Species That Could Help Develop Business Opportunities Between Japan And Turkey

This study examines fishery trade flows between Japan and Turkey, in order to identify existing trade patterns and look for potential business opportunities. In 2011, the total fish trade from Japan to Turkey was at its highest value ever, approximately USD 49.6 million; this number represents impressive growth, given that the value in 2000 was just over USD 12 million. Turkey and Japan are each surrounded by water, and both possess rich inland water resources; both countries also have high catching and production capacities. By correctly using these resources and placing even more importance on marketing activities abroad, the exports of both countries can surely rise. According to the information captured during our interviews, pacific salmon, skipjack tuna, sardine, and yellowfin tuna sales may indirectly contribute to the creation of new jobs, by expanding Japan’s trade with Turkey; participants also said that trout, sea bass, sea bream, and mussel sales could expand Turkey’s trade with Japan

Comparison Of Fisheries Sectors Of Japan And Turkey In Production And Trade Opportunities

This study clarifies the changes in the trade of fish-related commodities (FRC) between Turkey and Japan, and discusses the outlook of such trade. Turkey’s ability to adapt to the international food-safety standards enabled it to export primary commodities to the region. Turkey can draw from its EU experience when exporting primary products to Japan. Fisheries trade between Turkey and Japan has increased significantly in the past decade, from just over US$12 million (2,404 tons) in 2000 to more than US$49 million (3,653 tons) in 2011. From our interviews, we found that (1) there are significant fish-related trade opportunities between the two countries; (2) addressing the lack of knowledge or factual information in general is the most important task for increasing such fisheries trade; and (3) communication initiatives such as advertising, exhibitions, and field trips are necessary to increase the countries’ basic understanding of each other’s fisheries sector. In conclusion, detecting and capitalizing on new potential (FRC) (e.g., Atlantic bonito, Pacific saury, and sardine) in accordance with the preference of the market could be a new strategy that would promote further development of trade between the two countries
