A quantum Monte Carlo study on the superconducting Kosterlitz-Thouless transition of the attractive Hubbard model on a triangular lattice
We study the superconducting Kosterlitz-Thouless transition of the attractive
Hubbard model on a two-dimensional triangular lattice using auxiliary field
quantum Monte Carlo method for system sizes up to sites.
Combining three methods to analyze the numerical data, we find, for the
attractive interaction of , that the transition temperature stays almost
constant within the band filling range of , while it is found to
be much lower in the region.Comment: RevTeX 6 page
Competition between singlet and triplet pairings in Na_xCoO_2 yH_2O
We discuss the pairing symmetry of a cobaltate superconductor
NaCoO HO by adopting an effective single band model that
takes into account the hole pockets, as discussed in our previous paper
[to appear in Phys. Rev. Lett.] Here we consider the off-site repulsions in
addition to the on-site repulsion considered in our previous study. We show
that the spin-triplet f-wave pairing proposed in our previous study is robust
to some extent even in the presence of off-site repulsions. However, f-wave
pairing gives way to singlet pairings for sufficiently large values of off-site
repulsions. Among the singlet pairings, i-wave and extended s-wave pairings are
good candidates which do not break time reversal symmetry below in
agreement with the experiments.Comment: 12 page
Dispersive diffusion controlled distance dependent recombination in amorphous semiconductors
The photoluminescence in amorphous semiconductors decays according to power
law at long times. The photoluminescence is controlled by
dispersive transport of electrons. The latter is usually characterized by the
power of the transient current observed in the time-of-flight
experiments. Geminate recombination occurs by radiative tunneling which has a
distance dependence. In this paper, we formulate ways to calculate reaction
rates and survival probabilities in the case carriers execute dispersive
diffusion with long-range reactivity. The method is applied to obtain tunneling
recombination rates under dispersive diffusion. The theoretical condition of
observing the relation is obtained and theoretical
recombination rates are compared to the kinetics of observed photoluminescence
decay in the whole time range measured.Comment: To appear in Journal of Chemical Physic
Dispersive photoluminescence decay by geminate recombination in amorphous semiconductors
The photoluminescence decay in amorphous semiconductors is described by power
law at long times. The power-law decay of photoluminescence at
long times is commonly observed but recent experiments have revealed that the
exponent, , is smaller than the value 1.5 predicted from a
geminate recombination model assuming normal diffusion. Transient currents
observed in the time-of-flight experiments are highly dispersive characterized
by the disorder parameter smaller than 1. Geminate recombination rate
should be influenced by the dispersive transport of charge carriers. In this
paper we derive the simple relation, . Not only the
exponent but also the amplitude of the decay calculated in this study is
consistent with measured photoluminescence in a-Si:H.Comment: 18pages. Submitted for the publication in Phys. Rev.
Roosting ecology of endangered plant‐roosting bats on Okinawa Island: Implications for bat‐friendly forestry practices
Roosting information is crucial to guiding bat conservation and bat-friendly forestry practices. The Ryukyu tube-nosed bat Murina ryukyuana (Endangered) and Yanbaru whiskered bat Myotis yanbarensis (Critically Endangered) are forest-dwelling bats endemic to the central Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan. Despite their threatened status, little is known about the roosting ecology of these species and the characteristics of natural maternity roosts are unknown. To inform sustainable forestry practices and conservation management, we radio-tracked day roosts of both species in the subtropical forests of Okinawa's Kunigami Village District. We compared roost and roost site characteristics statistically between M. ryukyuana nonmaternity roosts (males or nonreproductive females), maternity roosts, and all M. yanbarensis roosts. Generalized linear models were used to investigate roost site selection by M. ryukyuana irrespective of sex and age class. Lastly, we compiled data on phenology from this and prior studies. Nonreproductive M. ryukyuana roosted alone and primarily in understory foliage. Murina ryukyuana maternity roosts were limited to stands >50 years old, and ~60% were in foliage. Myotis yanbarensis roosted almost entirely in cavities along gulch bottoms and only in stands >70 years old (~1/3 of Kunigami's total forest area). Murina ryukyuana maternity roosts were higher (4.3 ± 0.6 m) than conspecific nonmaternity roosts (2.3 ± 0.5 m; p <.001) and M. yanbarensis roosts (2.7 ± 0.5 m; not significant). Model results were inconclusive. Both species appear to be obligate plant roosters throughout their life cycle, but the less flexible roosting preferences of M. yanbarensis may explain its striking rarity. To conserve these threatened bats, we recommend the following forestry practices: (a) reduce clearing of understory vegetation, (b) refrain from removing trees along streams, (c) promote greater tree cavity densities by protecting old-growth forests and retaining snags, and (d) refrain from removing trees or understory between April and July, while bats are pupping.
First-principles study on the origin of large thermopower in hole-doped LaRhO3 and CuRhO2
Based on first-principles calculations, we study the origin of the large
thermopower in Ni-doped LaRhO3 and Mg-doped CuRhO2. We calculate the band
structure and construct the maximally localized Wannier functions from which a
tight binding Hamiltonian is obtained. The Seebeck coefficient is calculated
within the Boltzmann's equation approach using this effective Hamiltonian. For
LaRhO3, we find that the Seebeck coefficient remains nearly constant within a
large hole concentration range, which is consistent with the experimental
observation. For CuRhO2, the overall temperature dependence of the calculated
Seebeck coefficient is in excellent agreement with the experiment. The origin
of the large thermopower is discussed.Comment: 7 pages, to be published J. Phys.: Cond. Matt., Proc. QSD 200
Spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg model with the pair XYZ Heisenberg interaction and quartic Ising interactions as the exactly soluble zero-field eight-vertex model
The spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg model with the pair XYZ Heisenberg interaction
and quartic Ising interactions is exactly solved by establishing a precise
mapping relationship with the corresponding zero-field (symmetric) eight-vertex
model. It is shown that the Ising-Heisenberg model with the ferromagnetic
Heisenberg interaction exhibits a striking critical behavior, which manifests
itself through re-entrant phase transitions as well as continuously varying
critical exponents. The changes of critical exponents are in accordance with
the weak universality hypothesis in spite of a peculiar singular behavior to
emerge at a quantum critical point of the infinite order, which occurs at the
isotropic limit of the Heisenberg interaction. On the other hand, the
Ising-Heisenberg model with the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg interaction
surprisingly exhibits less significant changes of both critical temperatures as
well as critical exponents upon varying a strength of the exchange anisotropy
in the Heisenberg interaction.Comment: 11 pages, 9 figure
Pairing, Charge, and Spin Correlations in the Three-Band Hubbard Model
Using the Constrained Path Monte Carlo (CPMC) method, we simulated the
two-dimensional, three-band Hubbard model to study pairing, charge, and spin
correlations as a function of electron and hole doping and the Coulomb
repulsion between charges on neighboring Cu and O lattice sites. As a
function of distance, both the -wave and extended s-wave pairing
correlations decayed quickly. In the charge-transfer regime, increasing
decreased the long-range part of the correlation functions in both
channels, while in the mixed-valent regime, it increased the long-range part of
the s-wave behavior but decreased that of the d-wave behavior. Still the d-wave
behavior dominated. At a given doping, increasing increased the
spin-spin correlations in the charge-transfer regime but decreased them in the
mixed-valent regime. Also increasing suppressed the charge-charge
correlations between neighboring Cu and O sites. Electron and hole doping away
from half-filling was accompanied by a rapid suppression of anti-ferromagnetic
correlations.Comment: Revtex, 8 pages with 15 figure
Superconductivity and spin correlation in organic conductors: a quantum Monte Carlo study
The d-wave pairing correlations along with spin correlation are calculated
with quantum Monte Carlo method for the two-dimensional Hubbard model on
lattice structures representing organic superconductors
-(BEDT-TTF)X and (TMTSF)X. In both cases the pairing
correlations for superconducting order parameters with nodes are found to be
enhanced. The symmetry and the enhancement of the pairing is systematically
correlated with the spin structure factor, suggesting a spin-fluctuation
mediated pairing. We have further found that, as we deform the Fermi surface to
make the system approach the half-filled square lattice, the coherence of the
pairing saturates while the local pairing amplitude continues to increase.Comment: 5 pages, RevTeX, uses epsf.sty and multicol.st
Spin-triplet superconductivity in repulsive Hubbard models with disconnected Fermi surfaces: a case study on triangular and honeycomb lattices
We propose that spin-fluctuation-mediated spin-triplet superconductivity may
be realized in repulsive Hubbard models with disconnected Fermi surfaces. The
idea is confirmed for Hubbard models on triangular (dilute band filling) and
honeycomb (near half-filling) lattices using fluctuation exchange
approximation, where triplet pairing order parameter with f-wave symmetry is
obtained. Possible relevance to real superconductors is suggested.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, RevTeX, uses epsf.sty and multicol.st
