The present study examined how the mother culture would affect the sense of self in women having children Four-hundred fourteen mothers and 212 female students. A questionnaire consisted of five scales: (a) Internal Working Model Scale (Takuma & Toda,1988), (b) Self-esteem Scale (Yamamoto & Matsui & Yamanari,1982), (c) Achievement Motivation Scale (Horino,1987), (d) Maternal Scale (Hanazawa,1981), (e) Satisfaction Scale (Aoki, Matsui & Iwao, 1986: Ono,1984). The following results were obtained. First, mothers differ from female student in terms of the sense of self-quantities. Second, mothers live on larger relationships with others than female students

The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in the quality of life (QOL) and the self-efficacyof patients with chronic hepatitis C during the interferon treatment process, and mutual relevance, forthree months after the medical treatment began. The subjects were 45 patients with chronic hepatitis C,who answered a total of 3 surveys conducted at the time of hospitalization, one month after medicaltreatment began, and three months after using a questionnaire. As a result, the following conclusions weremade:1. QOL declined for one month after medical treatment began, and maintained a low value for threemonths. QOL was influenced by side effects.2. Self-efficacy did not change during the medical treatment. Self-efficacy was not influenced by sideeffects.3. In the relation of QOL and self-efficacy, a positive correlation between scales of QOL (such as mentalhealth, vitality, and social functioning) and self-efficacy was observed. For the support examination in the future,it is necessary to develop a self-efficacy and QOL standardrelation to hepatitis C disease, and the relationship between QOL and self-efficacy that uses a properoutcome measure is likely to be confirmed

温度感受性センダイウイルスベクターを用いて ヒトES細胞/iPS細胞から骨格筋細胞を簡便に作製する技術開発 --神経筋疾患病態モデル構築と創薬研究への利用--. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2021-09-13.Human pluripotent stem cells have the potential to differentiate into various cell types including skeletal muscles (SkM), and they are applied to regenerative medicine or in vitro modelling for intractable diseases. A simple differentiation method is required for SkM cells to accelerate neuromuscular disease studies. Here, we established a simple method to convert human pluripotent stem cells into SkM cells by using temperature-sensitive Sendai virus (SeV) vector encoding myoblast determination protein 1 (SeV-Myod1), a myogenic master transcription factor. SeV-Myod1 treatment converted human embryonic stem cells (ESCs) into SkM cells, which expressed SkM markers including myosin heavy chain (MHC). We then removed the SeV vector by temporal treatment at a high temperature of 38℃, which also accelerated mesodermal differentiation, and found that SkM cells exhibited fibre-like morphology. Finally, after removal of the residual human ESCs by pluripotent stem cell-targeting delivery of cytotoxic compound, we generated SkM cells with 80% MHC positivity and responsiveness to electrical stimulation. This simple method for myogenic differentiation was applicable to human-induced pluripotent stem cells and will be beneficial for investigations of disease mechanisms and drug discovery in the future

Positional Coincidence of H2O Maser and a Plasma Obscuring Torus in Radio Galaxy NGC 1052

We present multi-frequency simultaneous VLBA observations at 15, 22 and 43 GHz towards the nucleus of the nearby radio galaxy NGC 1052. These three continuum images reveal a double-sided jet structure, whose relative intensity ratios imply that the jet axis is oriented close to the sky plane. The steeply rising spectra at 15-43 GHz at the inner edges of the jets strongly suggest that synchrotron emission is absorbed by foreground thermal plasma. We detected H2O maser emission in the velocity range of 1550-1850 km/s, which is redshifted by 50-350 km/s with respect to the systemic velocity of NGC 1052. The redshifted maser gas appears projected against both sides of the jet, in the same manner as the HI seen in absorption. The H2O maser gas are located where the free-free absorption opacity is large. This probably imply that the masers in NGC 1052 are associated with a circumnuclear torus or disk as in the nucleus of NGC 4258. Such circumnuclear structure can be the sence of accreting onto the central engine.Comment: 18 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in Ap

Human induced pluripotent stem cells generated from a patient with idiopathic basal ganglia calcification

    Get PDF
Idiopathic basal ganglia calcification (IBGC) is a rare neurodegenerative disease, characterized by abnormal calcium deposits in basal ganglia of the brain. The affected individuals exhibit movement disorders, and progressive deterioration of cognitive and psychiatric ability. The genetic cause of the disease is mutation in one of several different genes, SLC20A2, PDGFB, PDGFRB, XPR1 or MYORG, which inheritably or sporadically occurs. Here we generated an induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) line from an IBGC patient, which is likely be a powerful tool for revealing the pathomechanisms and exploring potential therapeutic candidates of IBGC

Establishment of induced pluripotent stem cells from schizophrenia discordant fraternal twins

Schizophrenia (SCZ) is one of the major psychiatric disorders. The genetic factor is certainly influential in the onset of the disease but is not decisive. There is no identified molecular/cellular marker of the disease, and the pathomechanism is still unknown. In this study, we generated human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) derived from SCZ-discordant fraternal twins, and they could contribute to elucidation of the pathomechanism of SCZ

To find a supportive approach for the diagnosis, we constructed an artificial intelligence‐based prediction model of ALS using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Images of spinal motor neurons derived from healthy control subject and ALS patient iPSCs were analyzed by a convolutional neural network, and the algorithm achieved an area under the curve of 0.97 for classifying healthy control and ALS. This prediction model by deep learning algorithm with iPSC technology could support the diagnosis and may provide proactive treatment of ALS through future prospective research. ANN NEUROL 202
