Numerical study of the ordering of the +-J XY spin-glass ladder
The properties of the domain-wall energy and of the correlation length are
studied numerically for the one-dimensional +-J XY spin glass on the two-leg
ladder lattice, focusing on both the spin and the chirality degrees of freedom.
Analytic results obtained by Ney-Niftle et al for the same model were confirmed
for asymptotically large lattices, while the approach to the asymptotic limit
is slow and sometimes even non-monotonic. Attention is called to the occurrence
of the SO(2)-Z_2 decoupling and its masking in spin correlations, the latter
reflecting the inequality between the SO(2) and Z_2 exponents. Discussion is
given concerning the behaviors of the higher-dimensional models.Comment: 14 pages, 10 figure
Multiple-q states and skyrmion lattice of the triangular-lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet under magnetic fields
Ordering of the frustrated classical Heisenberg model on the
triangular-lattice with an incommensurate spiral spin structure is studied
under magnetic fields by means of a mean-field analysis and a Monte Carlo
simulation. Several types of multiple-q states including the "skyrmion-lattice"
state is observed in addition to the standard single-q state. In contrast to
the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction driven system, the present model allows
both skyrmions and anti-skyrmions, together with a new thermodynamic phase
where skyrmion and anti-skyrmion lattices form a domain state.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev. Let
Spin-chirality decoupling in the one-dimensional Heisenberg spin glass with long-range power-law interactions
We study the issue of the spin-chirality decoupling/coupling in the ordering
of the Heisenberg spin glass by performing large-scale Monte Carlo simulations
on a one-dimensional Heisenberg spin-glass model with a long-range power-law
interaction up to large system sizes. We find that the spin-chirality
decoupling occurs for an intermediate range of the power-law exponent.
Implications to the corresponding -dimensional short-range model is
discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, to appear in Physical Review Letter
Monte Carlo studies of the chiral and spin orderings of the three-dimensional Heisenberg spin glass
The nature of the ordering of the three-dimensional isotropic Heisenberg spin
glass with nearest-neighbor random Gaussian coupling is studied by extensive
Monte Carlo simulations. Several independent physical quantities are measured
both for the spin and for the chirality, including the correlation-length
ratio, the Binder ratio, the glass order parameter, the overlap distribution
function and the non-self-averageness parameter. By controlling the effect of
the correction-to-scaling, we have obtained a numerical evidence for the
occurrence of successive chiral-glass and spin-glass transitions at nonzero
temperatures, T_{CG} > T_{SG} > 0. Hence, the spin and the chirality are
decoupled in the ordering of the model. The chiral-glass exponents are
estimated to be \nu_{CG}=1.4+-0.2 and \eta_{CG}=0.6+-0.2, indicating that the
chiral-glass transition lies in a universality class different from that of the
Ising spin glass. The possibility that the spin and chiral sectors undergo a
simultaneous Kosterlitz-Thouless-type transition is ruled out. The chiral-glass
state turns out to be non-self-averaging, possibly accompanying a one-step-like
peculiar replica-symmetry breaking. Implications to the chirality scenario of
experimental spin-glass transitions are discussed.Comment: 20 pages, 24 figures. The Chi^2-analysis of the transition point has

On the next-to-next-to-leading order QCD corrections to heavy-quark production in deep-inelastic scattering
The contribution of quarks with masses m >> Lambda_QCD is the only part of
the structure functions in deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) which is not yet
known at the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) of perturbative QCD. We
present improved partial NNLO results for the most important structure function
F_2(x,Q^2) near the partonic threshold, in the high-energy (small-x) limit and
at high scales Q^2 >> m^2; and employ these results to construct approximations
for the gluon and quark coefficient functions which cover the full kinematic
plane. The approximation uncertainties are carefully investigated, and found to
be large only at very small values, x smaller about 10^-3, of the Bjorken
variable.Comment: 62 pages, LaTeX, 13 figures. Erratum for eq.(B.7
Catalogue of 12CO(J=1-0) and 13CO(J=1-0) Molecular Clouds in the Carina Flare Supershell
We present a catalogue of 12CO(J=1-0) and 13CO(J=1-0) molecular clouds in the
spatio-velocity range of the Carina Flare supershell, GSH 287+04-17. The data
cover a region of ~66 square degrees and were taken with the NANTEN 4m
telescope, at spatial and velocity resolutions of 2.6' and 0.1 km/s.
Decomposition of the emission results in the identification of 156 12CO clouds
and 60 13CO clouds, for which we provide observational and physical parameters.
Previous work suggests the majority of the detected mass forms part of a
comoving molecular cloud complex that is physically associated with the
expanding shell. The cloud internal velocity dispersions, degree of
virialization and size-linewidth relations are found to be consistent with
those of other Galactic samples. However, the vertical distribution is heavily
skewed towards high-altitudes. The robust association of high-z molecular
clouds with a known supershell provides some observational backing for the
theory that expanding shells contribute to the support of a high-altitude
molecular layer.Comment: To be published in PASJ Vol. 60, No. 6. (Issued on December 25th

Vortex-induced topological transition of the bilinear-biquadratic Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the triangular lattice
The ordering of the classical Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the triangular
lattice with the the bilinear-biquadratic interaction is studied by Monte Carlo
simulations. It is shown that the model exhibits a topological phase transition
at a finite-temperature driven by topologically stable vortices, while the spin
correlation length remains finite even at and below the transition point. The
relevant vortices could be of three different types, depending on the value of
the biquadratic coupling. Implications to recent experiments on the triangular
antiferromagnet NiGaS is discussed
Gauge coupling renormalization in orbifold field theories
We investigate the gauge coupling renormalization in orbifold field theories
preserving 4-dimensional N=1 supersymmetry in the framework of 4-dimensional
effective supergravity. As a concrete example, we consider the 5-dimensional
Super-Yang-Mills theory on a slice of AdS_5. In our approach, one-loop gauge
couplings can be determined by the loop-induced axion couplings and the tree
level properties of 4-dimensional effective supergravity which are much easier
to be computed.Comment: 18 pages, JHEP style; 1-loop corrections to gauge kinetic functions

Monte Carlo Studies of the Ordering of the Three-Dimensional Isotropic Heisenberg Spin Glass in Magnetic Fields
Spin and chirality orderings of the three-dimensional Heisenberg spin glass
under magnetic fields are studied by large-scale equilibrium Monte Carlo
simulations. It is found that the chiral-glass transition and the chiral-glass
ordered state, which are essentially of the same character as their zero-field
counterparts, occur under magnetic fields. The chiral-glass ordered state
exhibits a one-step-like peculiar replica-symmetry breaking in the chiral
sector, while it does not accompany the spin-glass order perpendicular to the
applied field. Critical perperties of the chiral-glass transition are different
from those of the standard Ising spin glass. Magnetic phase diagram of the
model is constructed, which reveals that the chiral-glass state is quite robust
against magnetic fields. The chiral-glass transition line has a character of
the Gabay-Toulouse line of the mean-field model, yet its physical origin being
entirely different. These numerical results are discussed in light of the
recently developed spin-chirality decoupling-recoupling scenario. Implication
to experimental phase diagram is also discussed.Comment: 23 pages, 23 figure
