The origin of the phase separation in partially deuterated κ\kappa-(ET)2_2Cu[N(CN)2_2]Br studied by infrared magneto-optical imaging spectroscopy

The direct observation of the phase separation between the metallic and insulating states of 75 %-deuterated κ\kappa-(ET)2_2Cu[N(CN)2_2]Br (d33d33) using infrared magneto-optical imaging spectroscopy is reported, as well as the associated temperature, cooling rate, and magnetic field dependencies of the separation. The distribution of the center of spectral weight () of d33d33 did not change under any of the conditions in which data were taken and was wider than that of the non-deuterated material. This result indicates that the inhomogenity of the sample itself is important as part of the origin of the metal - insulator phase separation.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in Solid State Commu

Generalized Gauge Theories and Weinberg-Salam Model with Dirac-K\"ahler Fermions

We extend previously proposed generalized gauge theory formulation of Chern-Simons type and topological Yang-Mills type actions into Yang-Mills type actions. We formulate gauge fields and Dirac-K\"ahler matter fermions by all degrees of differential forms. The simplest version of the model which includes only zero and one form gauge fields accommodated with the graded Lie algebra of SU(21)SU(2|1) supergroup leads Weinberg-Salam model. Thus the Weinberg-Salam model formulated by noncommutative geometry is a particular example of the present formulation.Comment: 33 pages, LaTe

Incommensurate Mott Insulator in One-Dimensional Electron Systems close to Quarter Filling

A possibility of a metal-insulator transition in molecular conductors has been studied for systems composed of donor molecules and fully ionized anions with an incommensurate ratio close to 2:1 based on a one-dimensional extended Hubbard model, where the donor carriers are slightly deviated from quarter filling and under an incommensurate periodic potential from the anions. By use of the renormalization group method, interplay between commensurability energy on the donor lattice and that from the anion potential has been studied and it has been found that an "incommensurate Mott insulator" can be generated. This theoretical finding will explain the metal-insulator transition observed in (MDT-TS)(AuI2_2)0.441_{0.441}.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, submitted to J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. at December 24 200

Staggered Fermion, its Symmetry and Ichimatsu-Patterned Lattice

We investigate exact symmetries of a staggered fermion in D dimensions. The Dirac operator is reformulated by SO(2D) Clifford algebra. The chiral symmetry, rotational invariance and parity symmetries are clarified in any dimension. Local scalar and pseudo-scalar modes are definitely determined, in which we find non-standard modes. The relation to Ichimatsu-patterned lattice approach is discussed.Comment: 3 pages, 1 figure, "Talk at Lattice2004(theory), Fermilab, June 21-26, 2004

Superoxide dismutase analog (Tempol: 4-hydroxy-2, 2, 6, 6-tetramethylpiperidine 1-oxyl) treatment restores erectile function in diabetes-induced impotence.

We hypothesized that the administration of the superoxide dismutase (SOD) mimetic Tempol (4-hydroxy-2, 2, 6, 6-tetramethylpiperidine 1-oxyl) may reverse diabetes-induced erectile dysfunction. To test this hypothesis, reactive oxygen species-related genes (SOD1, SOD2, GP x 1, CAT, NOS2, NOS3) were tested, erectile functional studies and immunohistochemical analysis were carried out in diabetic rats treated with or without Tempol. Thirty Sprague-Dawley (3-4 months old) rats were divided into three groups (n=10 each), 20 with diabetes (diabetic control and Tempol treatment) and 10 healthy controls. At 12 weeks after the induction of diabetes by streptozotocin and Tempol treatment, all groups underwent in vivo cavernous nerve stimulation. Rat crura were harvested and the expression of antioxidative defense enzymes were examined by semi-quantitative reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR). To confirm the RT-PCR results, we carried out immunohistochemistry (IHC) for catalase (CAT) and iNOS (NOS2). Nitration of tyrosine groups in proteins was also examined by IHC. Mean intracavernous pressure in the diabetic group was significantly lower than in the healthy controls (P <0.001) and was reversed by Tempol treatment (P <0.0108). NOS2 protein expression was significantly increased in diabetic animals compared with healthy controls and Tempol restored NOS2 protein level. Nitrotyrosine was also higher in diabetic animals and although Tempol treatment decreased its formation, it remained higher than that found in healthy controls. This study suggests that Tempol treatment increased erectile function through modulating oxidative stress-related genes in diabetic rats. This is the first report about the relationship between diabetes-induced erectile dysfunction and oxidative stress, and antioxidative therapy using the superoxide dismutase mimetic, Tempol, to restore erectile function

Transport criticality of the first-order Mott transition in a quasi-two-dimensional organic conductor, κ\kappa-(BEDT-TTF)2_{2}Cu[N(CN)2_{2}]Cl

An organic Mott insulator, κ\kappa-(BEDT-TTF)2_{2}Cu[N(CN)2_{2}]Cl, was investigated by resistance measurements under continuously controllable He gas pressure. The first-order Mott transition was demonstrated by observation of clear jump in the resistance variation against pressure. Its critical endpoint at 38 K is featured by vanishing of the resistive jump and critical divergence in pressure derivative of resistance, 1RRP|\frac{1}{R}\frac{\partial R}{\partial P}|, which are consistent with the prediction of the dynamical mean field theory and have phenomenological correspondence with the liquid-gas transition. The present results provide the experimental basis for physics of the Mott transition criticality.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure

Substitution Effect by Deuterated Donors on Superconductivity in κ\kappa-(BEDT-TTF)2_2Cu[N(CN)2_2]Br

We investigate the superconductivity in the deuterated BEDT-TTF molecular substitution system κ\kappa-[(h8-BEDT-TTF)1x_{1-x}(d8-BEDT-TTF)x_x]2_2Cu[N(CN)2_2]Br, where h8 and d8 denote fully hydrogenated and deuterated molecules, respectively. Systematic and wide range (xx = 0 -- 1) substitution can control chemical pressure finely near the Mott boundary, which results in the modification of the superconductivity. After cooling slowly, the increase of TcT_{\textrm{c}} observed up to xx \sim 0.1 is evidently caused by the chemical pressure effect. Neither reduction of TcT_{\textrm{c}} nor suppression of superconducting volume fraction is found below xx \sim 0.5. This demonstrates that the effect of disorder by substitution is negligible in the present system. With further increase of xx, both TcT_{\textrm{c}} and superconducting volume fraction start to decrease toward the values in xx = 1.Comment: J. Phys. Soc. Jp
