Algebras for parameterised monads
Parameterised monads have the same relationship to adjunctions with parameters as monads do to adjunctions. In this paper, we investigate algebras for parameterised monads. We identify the Eilenberg-Moore category of algebras for parameterised monads and prove a generalisation of Beck’s theorem characterising this category. We demonstrate an application of this theory to the semantics of type and effect systems
High-field phase diagram of the Haldane-gap antiferromagnet
We have determined the magnetic phase diagram of the quasi-one-dimensional
1 Heisenberg antiferromagnet by
specific heat measurements to 150 mK in temperature and 32 T in magnetic field.
When field is applied along the spin-chain direction, a new phase appears at
T. For the previously known phases of field-induced order,
accurate determination is made of the power-law exponents of the ordering
temperature near the zero-temperature critical field , owing to the
four-fold improvement of the minimum temperature over the previous work. The
results are compared with the predictions based on the Bose-Einstein
condensation of triplet excitations. Substituting deuterium for hydrogen is
found to slightly reduce the interchain exchange.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figure
Analytical Tachyonic Lump Solutions in Open Superstring Field Theory
We construct a classical solution in the GSO(-) sector in the framework of a
Wess-Zumino-Witten-like open superstring field theory on a non-BPS D-brane. We
use an su(2) supercurrent, which is obtained by compactifying a direction to a
circle with the critical radius, in order to get analytical tachyonic lump
solutions to the equation of motion. By investigating the action expanded
around a solution we find that it represents a deformation from a non-BPS
D-brane to a D-brane-anti-D-brane system at the critical value of a parameter
which is contained in classical solutions. Although such a process was
discussed in terms of boundary conformal field theory before, our study is
based on open superstring field theory including interaction terms.Comment: 17 pages, references adde
Field-induced long-range order in the S=1 antiferromagnetic chain
The quasi-one dimensional S=1 antiferromagnet in magnetic field H is
investigated with the exact diagonalization of finite chains and the mean field
approximation for the interchain interaction. In the presence of the single-ion
anisotropy D, the full phase diagram in the plane is presented for H
\parallel D and H \perp D. The shape of the field-induced long-range ordered
phase is revealed to be quite different between the two cases, as observed in
the recent experiment of NDMAP. The estimated ratio of the interchain and
intrachain couplings of NDMAP (J'/J ~ 10^{-3}) is consistent with the neutron
scattering measurement.Comment: 4 pages, Revtex, with 6 eps figure
A Sharp Peak of the Zero-Temperature Penetration Depth at Optimal Composition in BaFe2(As1-xPx)2
In a superconductor, the ratio of the carrier density, , to their
effective mass, , is a fundamental property directly reflecting the length
scale of the superfluid flow, the London penetration depth, . In two
dimensional systems, this ratio () determines the
effective Fermi temperature, . We report a sharp peak in the
-dependence of at zero temperature in clean samples of
BaFe(AsP) at the optimum composition , where the
superconducting transition temperature reaches a maximum of 30\,K. This
structure may arise from quantum fluctuations associated with a quantum
critical point (QCP). The ratio of at is enhanced,
implying a possible crossover towards the Bose-Einstein condensate limit driven
by quantum criticality.Comment: Main text (5 pages, 4 figures) + Supplementary Materials (5 pages, 5

Quasi-elastic neutron scattering in the high-field phase of a Haldane antiferromagnet
Inelastic neutron scattering experiments on the Haldane-gap quantum
antiferromagnet NDMAP are performed in magnetic fields below and above the
critical field Hc at which the gap closes. Quasi-elastic neutron scattering is
found for H>Hc indicating topological excitations in the high field phase.Comment: Added to discussion section. v2: Updated figure
On-site underground background measurements for the KASKA reactor-neutrino experiment
On-site underground background measurements were performed for the planned
reactor-neutrino oscillation experiment KASKA at Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear
power station in Niigata, Japan. A small-diameter boring hole was excavated
down to 70m underground level, and a detector unit for -ray and
cosmic-muon measurements was placed at various depths to take data. The data
were analyzed to obtain abundance of natural radioactive elements in the
surrounding soil and rates of cosmic muons that penetrate the overburden. The
results will be reflected in the design of the KASKA experiment.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures, final version for publication. Table 1 and Fig.5

Paramagnetic and antiferromagnetic resonances in the diamagnetically diluted Haldane magnet PbNi2V2O8
The impurity-induced antiferromagnetic ordering of the doped Haldane magnet
Pb(Ni{1-x}Mg{x})2V2O8 (0 < x <0.06) was studied by electron spin resonance
(ESR) on ceramic samples in the frequency range 9-110 GHz. Below the N\'{e}el
temperature a transformation of the ESR spectrum was found, indicating an
antiferromagnetic resonance mode of spin precession. The excitation gap of the
spin-wave spectrum increases with increasing Mg-concentration in the same
manner as the N\'{e}el temperature, reaching its maximum value of 80 GHz at x >
0.04. At small concentrations x < 0.02 the signals of antiferromagnetic
resonance were found to coexist with the signal of the paramagnetic resonance
indicating a microscopic separation of the magnetic phases.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figure
