Białko w żywieniu dzieci w żłobkach a ryzyko chorób metabolicznych w przyszłości
Children attending nurseries are spending there sometimes even nine hours a day and they usually consume 4 of 5 recommended meals. The development of a small child is very dynamic and to work correctly, it is extremely important to provide all the necessary substances, including proteins. Based on the available data it can be stated that in European countries, including Poland, the problem may be an excess of protein, not its scarcity. It is important not only the amount of protein, but also its proportion in the total energy from food. More and more studies confirm the effect of excess protein on the increase in BMI (Body Mass Index) and the amount of visceral fat in children, as well as the relationship between the BMI of a small child and its size at a later age. This suggests that the relationship between the oversupply of protein in young children and overweight and obesity, which in turn may result in the occurrence of non-communicable diseases in the future. F or this reason, it is impor tant that the nurseries through-shaped adhere to the recommended standards of nutrition.
Environmental Lead Exposure in Polish Children: Blood Lead Levels, Major Sources and Principles of the Lead Poisoning Prevention
In Poland, children are exposed to lead from the combustion of leaded gasoline and industrial processes.
Since the early 1990s, emission levels have declined, and a ban on leaded petrol is anticipated in 2005. Major
industrial sources are located in Silesia Province and the copper mining centre (Legnica region). Concerns
about, lead exposure in children date back to the 1980s; mean blood lead levels (BILL)reported in children
living near lead smelters in Silesia exceeded 20ug/dl. in the 1990s, mean BLLs were decreasing, both in
urban children and those living near lead industry. Lower than the CDC action level of 101ug/dl, they were
however higher than mean values in children from the other countries, where leaded gasoline had already
been banned. Childhood lead poisoning prevention requires a comprehensive approach, involving different
sectors. Medical prevention focuses on the early detection of exposed child by the blood lead testing and
individual case management. An increasing body of evidence, indicating adverse effects even below the
current “safe” level of 101ug/dl, argues for intensification of the primary prevention, which requires legal,
economic and technical measures. Public health efforts should contribute to the reduction and elimination of
sources of exposure in child’s environment and public education campaigns
Serologic Investigations in Children with Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Food Allergy
The aim of the study was the evaluation of frequency and titre of IgA ASCA and IgG ASCA and p-ANCA, c-ANCA in children with IBD and occurrence of ASCA antibodies in relation to coexistence of FA.
Patients and methods. The study comprised 95 children at the ages of 2 to 18 years. The diagnosis of IBD was established on the basis of Porto criteria. Tests of blood serum were performed in all children: IgA and IgG ASCA, p-ANCA, c-ANCA using ELISA method.
Results. IgE-dependent FA was found in 32.5% children with UC and in 21% with CD. We did not observe any relation between the occurrence of FA and the frequency and ASCA titre. p-ANCA were significantly more frequent in the group of children with UC. The occurrence of ASCA antibodies was observed in 73.7% of children with CD, 17.5% with UC and almost 30% with allergic colitis.
Conclusions. Patients with CD and the presence of ASCA revealed a significantly more frequent localization of lesions within the small bowel and a tendency towards older age. We observed a connection between the occurrence of antibodies and the examined mutations of gene NOD2/CARD15
The impact of socio-economic factors on health behaviours of teenagers living in Rybnik
Background. Socio-economic factors have long been a topic of scientific research. It has been demonstrated that these factors have a considerable influence on the health of the population. Unemployment, low income, migrations and family status (full, incomplete or shattered) affect the health of the family and children. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of socioeconomic factors on health behaviour of young people living in Rybnik. Material and methods. The survey was conducted among 391 students of Rybnik schools. Family affluence was determined using the Family Affluence Scale (FAS). The level of p <0.05 is considered as statistically significant. Results. The family status has significant impact on health behaviours. Students from broken families more often reach for stimulants and often neglect their own health. A similar result was demonstrated among children of migrants. Material status has a minor influence on health behaviour by teenagers. Conclusions. Socio-economic factors determine young people’s health. Particularly exposed to the negative health behaviours are teenagers who grow up in single-parent families and in families where at least one of the parents has emigrated. Materiał i metody. Badanie ankietowe przeprowadzono pośród 391 uczniów rybnickich szkół. Poziom majętności rodziny określono za pomocą skali FAS. Za istotny statystycznie przyjęto poziom p<0,05. Wyniki.

Children from urban areas significantly more often take part in physical activities after school.WSTĘP: Prawidłowe i zbilansowane żywienie dzieci w wieku szkolnym gwarantuje harmonijny rozwój młodych organizmów.
Risk factors of dyslexia in allergic diseases
Risk estimation of dyslexia is the first diagnostic stage
accompanying the psychological and pedagogical observation
of the child who starts his/her education. The aim of
this stage is to diagnose early the child with learning skills
disorders. Though the preventive character of the test
explains its commonness, the multitude of factors inducing
the early symptoms of dyslexia may constitute a diagnostic
problem. As the estimation of the risk of dyslexia is based
on screening, it focuses mainly on the displayed symptoms.
The paper estimates the risk of dyslexia in the group of
children diagnosed with allergies. According to this concept,
there is a strong dependence between the chromosomes
conditioning dyslexia and lateralization and the chromosomes
responsible for the immunity on the human organism.
Since the variables mentioned above have not been taken
yet into account in the research done in Poland, it is reasonable
to set up a systematic approach for a large-scale
study especially in the face of growing number of diagnoses
with allergy. However, the issue of the nosological diversity
of various allergies in the context of statistical difference
between them and the risk of dyslexia still remains an open
questio

Level of physical activity amongst inhabitants of Poland declined; simultaneously number of people spending their time in front of the computer screen increased (over five times amongst females). Numbers of Polish teenagers becoming overweight and obese increased up to 10% for males. Wzrasta ilość przypadków nadwagi i otyłości wśród młodych Polaków, aż 10% wzrost odnotowano wśród chłopców
phenomenon of child abuse based on studies of high school students
Phenomenon of child abuse is considered to be voluntary
or involuntary action of an adult which has
a detrimental effect on child’s health and/or his psychophysical
development. The concept of child abuse
syndrome includes physical, mental and emotional maltreatment
and negligence of physical, medical and emotional
needs and also rape and sexual abuse.
The authors conducted a questionnaire survey in
order to assess children mistreatment by parents, caretakers
and school environment.
Studies included 228 high school students aged 14–
16 out of which 44,3% were girls and 55,7% were boys.
84% of the children were brought up by full families, 13% by mothers only, and 3% by fathers only. The
most common form of mistreatment of children was
physical violence (20,3%), psychological violence
(12,1%) and negligence (6,5%).
Violence in the form of bad touch was experienced
by 7,9% of girls and 0,8% of boys. High school students
often suffered emotional violence from peers (22,9%),
siblings (5,2%) and teachers (4,8%).
Results of the surveys were discussed paying attention
