    Conditional transfer of quantum correlation in the intensity of twin beams

    A conditional protocol of transferring quantum-correlation in continuous variable regime was experimentally demonstrated. The quantum-correlation in two pairs of twin beams, each characterized by intensity-difference squeezing of 7.0 dB, was transferred to two initially independent idler beams. The quantum-correlation transfer resulted in intensity-difference squeezing of 4.0 dB between two idler beams.     Loyalty cards are used in various sectors in South Africa. Media reports indicate that there has been a significant growth in the number of loyalty card programmes in the country. The existence of various loyalty card programmes generated an inquisitive interest for this research study to be conducted in order to determine customer perceptions of loyalty cards in retail stores in Gauteng. Like in other industries, retailers are competing on their loyalty card programmes as they aim to acquire loyal customers. This is not an easy task, particularly in the environment of economic decline and uncertainty which South Africa is currently going through. The debate on whether loyalty cards have an impact on customer purchasing behaviour has been ongoing for several years. There have been different views from previous research studies in both developing and developed countries. However, this topic is relevant as it relates to understanding and fulfilling customer preferences. The purpose of the study was to investigate if customers perceive loyalty cards offered in major retail stores in Gauteng to be beneficial, and to determine if they influence the purchasing behaviour and decisions made by customers. The study also intended to understand the reasons for various loyalty card memberships. The quantitative approach was employed in this study, and structured questionnaires were used to collect data. The results indicated that loyalty cards influence purchasing behaviour as the number of times customers purchased in stores as members increased, however there was uncertainty if the amount of money spent also increased

    Domain walls in (Ga,Mn)As diluted magnetic semiconductor

    We report experimental and theoretical studies of magnetic domain walls in an in-plane magnetized (Ga,Mn)As dilute moment ferromagnetic semiconductor. Our high-resolution electron holography technique provides direct images of domain wall magnetization profiles. The experiments are interpreted based on microscopic calculations of the micromagnetic parameters and Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert simulations. We find that the competition of uniaxial and biaxial magnetocrystalline anisotropies in the film is directly reflected in orientation dependent wall widths, ranging from approximately 40 nm to 120 nm. The domain walls are of the N\'eel type and evolve from near-9090^{\circ} walls at low-temperatures to large angle [11ˉ\bar{1}0]-oriented walls and small angle [110]-oriented walls at higher temperatures.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

    Hic-5, an adaptor-like nuclear receptor coactivator

    In recent years, numerous nuclear receptor-interacting proteins have been identified that influence nuclear transcription through their direct modification of chromatin. Along with coactivators that possess histone acetyltransferase (HAT) or methyltransferase activity, other coactivators that lack recognizable chromatin-modifying activity have been discovered whose mechanism of action is largely unknown. The presence of multiple protein-protein interaction motifs within mechanistically undefined coactivators suggests that they function as adaptor molecules, either recruiting or stabilizing promoter-specific protein complexes. This perspective will focus on a family of nuclear receptor coactivators (i.e., group III LIM domain proteins related to paxillin) that appear to provide a scaffold to stabilize receptor interactions with chromatin-modifying coregulators

    Lagrangian description of fluid flow with pressure in relativistic cosmology

    The Lagrangian description of fluid flow in relativistic cosmology is extended to the case of flow accelerated by pressure. In the description, the entropy and the vorticity are obtained exactly for the barotropic equation of state. In order to determine the metric, the Einstein equation is solved perturbatively, when metric fluctuations are small but entropy inhomogeneities are large. Thus, the present formalism is applicable to the case when the inhomogeneities are small in the large scale but locally nonlinear.Comment: 11 pages (RevTeX); accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.

    High-energy photoemission on Fe3O4: Small polaron physics and the Verwey transition

    We have studied the electronic structure and charge ordering (Verwey) transition of magnetite (Fe3O4) by soft x-ray photoemission. Due to the enhanced probing depth and the use of different surface preparations we are able to distinguish surface and volume effects in the spectra. The pseudogap behavior of the intrinsic spectra and its temperature dependence give evidence for the existence of strongly bound small polarons consistent with both dc and optical conductivity. Together with other recent structural and theoretical results our findings support a picture in which the Verwey transition contains elements of a cooperative Jahn-Teller effect, stabilized by local Coulomb interaction
